Do intellectual women exist?

Question

I am at my wits end, constantly. There doesn't seem to be anyone on this planet able to grasp things with a high enough degree of subtlety and intelligence that their speech or writing doesn't irritate me. Whenever I listen to someone for very long, it's a constant struggle to grant them exemption after exemption, as they make mistake after mistake in their reasoning.

I would be comforted to know that there are intellectual women out there. For some reason I don't care much about men. They tend to be too egotistical, even when they possess intelligence. I've given up on them long ago. But women, they are not always so horribly conceited. So please, if you are a woman and possess some respectable measure of intelligence, speak up! Tell me your favorite book or something. Thank you.

I sit back and look at these woman of this generation, prancing around with their heads filled with air, and they think that their looks will get them through everything.

i would love to have more intellectual, classy, interesting bunch of friends, with a lot more to say then talk about celebrities or the latest bloody shoes, handbags, sunglasses, how much weight they have lost/ need to lose, or what the f*** ever these woman talk about!

i am sick of being surrounded by a bunch of girls who think that acting slutty is the way to get a man, and they think their "cute" if they are clueless and act like a baby.

WRONG! you actually look like a pathetic excuse for a girl.

here we are, trying to make our stand, trying to show to people we are just as capable as men, then these woman have to make the general stereotype of what woman today are like.

ugh no wonder I used to sit in the library at lunch time and just read.

Oh Lord, these responses. Yeah, I suppose I'd consider myself intellectual, or at least comparatively so, I'm considering a Ph.D. program after college (or perhaps architecture school, though that runs contrary to my studies in languages and religion), I love literature and I find myself laughing at quirks in my ancient Greek translation assignments. As far as favorite books, I'm a big aficionado of Lolita, As I Lay Dying, Huck Finn, Lady Chatterley's Lover, Self-Reliance, Brave New World, If on a winter's night a traveler, Pride and Prejudice (man, I can't not be!), and the poetry of the Old Testament, ee cummings, Emily Dickinson... etc.

So, I'd say intellectual women are out there--but it's tricky to find that balance between androgynous intelligence and academic interest and femininity.

I also think that a lot of people are missing something here--he's not saying that women are not intelligent, but that intellectual women are a rare breed. This is true, I think. Then again, intellectual men are not staggeringly common, either.

How exactly is intelligence gauged? The level of success? A medical doctor has the medical field as their expertise, but if you put them into the world of a lawyer, they would be lost. For Americans, we see schools such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Dartmouth as top schools. Surely people who graduate from these elite schools must be intelligent. Yes and no. They are intelligent in their respective fields. When put into a job that contains "less intelligent" people such as construction, most would not know where to begin. Also, these graduates of prestigious schools are the same ones that dropped the ball on Wall Street. They don't seem to be doing a brilliant job in Washington either or in any other government for that matter.

I have met many people that I've felt were intelligent that never went to college. In some cases, they didn't even finish high school. It was usually attributed to monetary reasons.

I completely over analyzed the question, didn't I? Oh, and I have met what I thought were intelligent women.

Might I humbly suggest that your pursuit of highly intellectual women might not be best served on a site which revolves mostly around questions such as "Am I fat?" and "Is my penis too small?" Certainly I give great credit to the brains and creativity of the members of this site, but I feel that your academic approach to intelligence is of a distinctly separate type.

As for the distinction between men and women, I disagree that the disparity lies along the line of intelligence. I am more inclined to agree with your later assessment that the genders' personalities tend to differ in a more generalized fashion (although "more inclined" is used relative to "completely disinclined", so its weight is not exactly tremendous).

Lastly, although I've tried extremely hard to stop myself from typing this (must. stop. fingers.): The irony of your assertion that men are "too egotistical" is simply too painful to bear without mention, considering the tone of your first paragraph. Perhaps women share your view on this?

Lots of women have no grasp of logic. It can be hugely frustrating to deal with these women.

But lots of men make the same errors. It can be hugely frustrating to deal with these men, such as guys who classify all women as a group and assume that the traits of a portion of the group apply to the entire group.

I met many.

If you don't find them you either look at the wrong places, at the wrong girls or you're projecting a wrong image of yourself. The problem would be yourself then.

Yes. There are intellectual women out here. But men hate women who may be better than they are at just about anything and women who are less intellectual grab the attention of men.

It seems to me that no one dates for good conversation - only the best sexual services they can find - and nowadays they are not even making a pretence of that notion being false.

You think your better than everyone else, and likely won't listen to this response. But really, get your head out of your ass and see the people around you for what they are. Just because they don't have a sophisticated vocabulary, or sentence structure as yourself doesn't mean their inferior. Maybe it's you that does not know how to speak, why speak in such a high manner so that no one can understand? Your testing them, which no women likes. When speaking you should speak so that everyone can understand no matter what experiences they have.

Stop being a pompous asshole and come back to reality and maybe, just maybe you'll find a women that will put up with your crap.

If you didn't hold yourself in such high regard, you might find that women aren't as clueless as you seem to think, and plenty of men aren't conceited; a little humility goes a long way. For what it's worth, your egotism is a turn-off. That might be a part of your problem.

I've seen you before and you can't get over yourself.  you're just like the guys your talking about.  and no, not all guys are horribly conceited, not even all intelligent guys are full of themselves. Might I recommend joining a Singles group- there is always someone significant for another individual - you just need to find that person, which can be a tedious task.

Yes, there are intellectual women- asking questions like this seem only for pity, no offense. The women out there with intelligence try to avoid some states of self-esteem, especially the ones that send off red-flags.
