Why are looks so important?

Ok, looks are imprtant. Ok I understand. And I was a bit shocked at how rude and cruel people are to fat ugly people. I don't want to go into details but as soon as I lost weight and my teeth got straight. You won't guess how I was treated. But why must we be so cruel and heartless to someone for being ugly? Why? Can someone explain that to me? Why are we so mean to the not so good looking people? I mean, everyone was so rude and hated this girl because she was ugly. But why are people, girls and boys are so horrible to ugly people?

I've found that on the internet people can be very cruel under the guise of anonymity. In the real world though I haven't found people to be very mean. Sure, attractive people have it easier in almost every situation, but unattractive people don't get harassed.

I think it depends on how you're raised. I am nothing like that cause my mother would beat me if she found out I was like that... That's not my personality type though. I'm always nice to everyone because you never know what could happen.
