New Facebook messenger feature: Screen full of Flying Hearts?

I just opened a Facebook messenger message from my girlfriend on my smartphone and a ton of flying hearts appeared on screen. Is this a new feature of the app or is the fact that the message was simply <3 that triggered it?

Facebook messenger flying hearts happens only on mobile. Hearts start flying from the bottom of the screen towards up when you send an "In Love" emoj
