America's problem resides in it's public school systems particularly it's K-12 system. Our K-12 system is so inconsistent throughout the country, that you have people from one region who is intellectually behind students from another region. Not to mention, the federal government has been sticking it's nose in our education system by funding schools that do well (high graduation rate) and cutting funds for schools that do poorly (low graduation rate). This results in schools propelling students through the grade system and to diplomas despite the fact that many of these students deserve to be held back.
American Universities on the other hand are top tier for a reason and its because this is were the real education begins. The problem however is that Tuition prices in America are so inflated that not everyone can afford it. This results in a large portion of the population unable to go to college thus leaving college only attainable for the very bright or for those who make a decent living.
So with that in mind. The average European citizen is more educated then the average American citizen. However the average American college student is more educated then the average European college student.
How many people in Europe do you think will vote for a buffoon like Trump? Even then compare political systems in Europe to America. To balance off Hillary isn't a candidate either yet those are the two chocies.
I don't think Europeans are more smarter, America is still leader in Science and Technology, one of the best universities, Silicon Valley is in America. The problem is the contrast. On one hand America is leader in Science and Technology, on the other there is rampant anti-intellectualism and people believe earth is 6,000 years old.
Compared to Europe... Americans are more naive, more gullible, less likely to question things, Americans are distracted by bread and circuses, politics are personality cults. Its just that proportion of these kind ofm people is higher in America than Europe.
That is the advantage of the education system that is cheaper than in the US (if you want quality). OK, we pay a lot of taxes in most EU countries, but we get back a lot and also the poorer can get a good education. In the US, its simple. If you have money, you can afford a good education. If you don't have, go to one of those marginal schools.
If you go off IQ averages then the US ranks 9th, below the UK at 7th, below Germany, Belgium, Norway - but all of these rank lower than the East. Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Japan all rank way higher.

European is not a country. The populations of some countries are definitely dumber and have a lower intelligence than other populations from other countries
Yes, definitely. European educational systems don't have the reputation to be the best in the world for no reason.

As an Indian I'd say yes and it wasn't hard to pick at all. Couple years back during my semester break I joined a tech support firm for 3 months and my experience supports your conclusion. I talked to US clients for AT&T and UK clients for Talk Talk process. An average American is so retarded that they had to be told what's a CPU and what's a modem. They put their TV on mute and call us to repair their sound box. I can quote so many experience which most people won't even believe. The level of stupidity was too damn high.
Very hard to say - The stand out thing is in most European countries college is much more affordable than in US - In the UK/Ireland that is the reason you probably have around a 80% take up in third level education.
The number one most googled thing after the whole Brexit thing in the UK was "What is the EU?"
So no. We're no smarter. That or Brits perhaps are the Americans of Europe. That certainly explains a lot about the US actually lol
I don't know about _smarter_ per se, but definitely nicer, more humble people, not nearly as loud and obnoxious.
You'll never see Europeans boasting about freedom the way Americans do. America seems to be ignorant of the fact there's about 90 free countries in the world, and they aren't at the top lol.
