It is not the fact that we are obsessed with it. For me personally, it is about celebrating your race and being proud of who you are. Just as whites have the right to be proud of being white, blacks have the right to be proud of being black. It is building up my race while others are tearing it down. It is showing the ignorant and incompetent world that we are not insubordinates. We have the right to be here just as everyone else. We reserve the right to be treated as such.

Viewing others or things in day to day life through any biased lense is wrong. If you look constantly for something you're going to find it. If you expend your energy looking for people obsessed with race you'll find them. If you look constantly to see if someone locks their car door when you walk by, you'll find them. Over time this takes over anyone's way of thinking and seeing and all they'll see is through a lense.
I think when you've been put down because of it or are raised by people who were, it changes how you view the world, for better or worse. And it's something that is thrown in black people's faces and made an issue (intentionally or not) more than a lot of people think.
I've met just as many white people who are the same way. Just part of the times we live in.
Because apparently there are plenty of narrow-minded folks in your society that don't know how to counter or ignore the usage of the race card, so as soon as one gets thrown to the table, they put their hands up in surrender.
To me, frankly, it's amusing. I do strongly believe that if these narrow-minded folks would visit my country, our society would quickly help them grow their balls, self-confidence and common sense back.
probably because a lot in their lives revolve around race. what if everyone locked their car doors as you walked by or walked to the other side of the street at night. I'm sure it's not pleasent. I don't know I'm not black but I assume it's because all a lot of people see when they see a black person is black.

They are projecting everything that is wrong with their lives (in their opinions) onto their race. Those who are obsessed with race are probably also those that are less intelligent, educated and thus successfull. You can see a similiar thing with feminist that are obsessed with gender, allthough those normally are educated. Nice profile pic by the way.
If you're a racial minority you're more likely to see everything through a fucking racial lens, because race comes up more in your life, it defines you more to others and yourself because it's something that differentiates you. It's the same if you belong to a small religion, or if you're in a particular line of work. (Most) white people don't think about race as much because they see themselves as the default race.
Oddly enough, there's an endless amount of questions on here that seemed to be more concerned with what black people do and think than anything else, a la this question...
I don't know but its very annoying.
