Can anorexics give blood?

i have a friend who is trying to get over anorexia and today she gave blood. She is still extremely underweight but she met the weight and height requirement to give blood. Can it affect her badly?

well she can because she did meet the requirements...they test your blood after you give it for certain things to make sure you don't pass anything to someone who needs the blood. As for your friend it could hurt her yes. It forces your body to work a little harder to make up for the lost blood and also create new blood. If she is truly anorexic I don't feel like it is a smart idea to give blood it puts that extra stress on your body. Girls in general have calcium and iron problems, it is very common. Giving blood can lower those levels even more so be careful. Be sure to take a lot of fluids and eat something after giving blood.

I'm a athletic guy, always have been. I gave blood once in my life. I worked out about 7 or 8 hours after and it knocked me out cold. I didn't really feel it through out the day but when I worked out that night it kicked my ass. I'm just saying giving blood can affect anyone be sure your healthy enough before trying to give to others.

If she met the weight requirements there probably isn't a significant risk to her.
