Explain why.
+1 yI don't support Money's Theory (gender is ONLY a social construct), but I do believe that one's is far more telling than their genitals or chromosomes. When your brain is female and your body is male, it doesn't matter how much you try to repress yourself, you won't feel happy. And for some people, distancing themselves from male or female is a coping mechanism or simply how their body and/or brain is wired to want to achieve. Trans people aren't mentally ill BECAUSE they are trans, either. That "diagnosis" is actually considered to be medical abuse by the APA and WHO. What happens is their brain is the correct gender and the body isn't and it results in gender dysphoria, which is the disorder. Also, can we all stop calling people born with mixed parts "hermaphrodites"? The proper and less degrading term is called "intersex".

Gender is a spectrum onto which the vast majority of people fall closer to one side than the other, most often falling closer to the side that correlates most strongly with their assigned sex at birth, sometimes falling closer to the opposite side from their assign sex at birth, sometimes falling somewhere around the middle, and sometimes shifting throughout their lives across the spectrum.
I don't think gender is the stark black and white concept that we tend to simplify it to, but those simplifications do serve a purpose. It is a short cut that allows us to make quick assumptions about people from how they present themselves. As long as we don't try to force people to fit our assumptions and we respect people's ability to choose how they present and identify themselves, no harm done.00 Reply

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yGender, unlike sexuality, is genetic.
The gender of a person is defined by the chromosomes X and Y.
Females typically have two of the same kind of sex chromosome (XX), and are called the homogametic sex. Males typically have two distinct sex chromosomes (XY) and are called the heterogametic sex.
Exceptions to these generalisations happen in the cases of XX males or XY females, or other syndromes.
BUT EVEN IN THOSE EXCEPTIONS, THE PERSON IS MALE OR FEMALE. NOT SOME WEIRD THIRD THING.
This system is in contrast with the ZW sex-determination system found in birds, some insects, many reptiles, and other animals, in which the heterogametic sex is female.41 Reply- +1 y

At least the majority is saying two and not doing some weird mental gymnastics.

How Many Genders Are There?
This is a question that has been asked throughout history, and the answer is still not clear.
There are many different opinions on this topic, and it is still a matter of debate:
- The most common belief is that there are two genders, male and female.
- However, there are also those who believe that there are more than two genders. The term “genderqueer” is used to describe people who do not identify as either male or female.
There is no definitive answer to this question, and it is likely that the number of genders will continue to be a matter of debate. However, it is important to remember that everyone has the right to identify as whatever gender they please.
What are some different types of gender identity?
Gender identity is the gender which a person sees themselves as. This can be different from the gender a person is assigned at birth.
There are many different types of gender identity, which can be broadly divided into two categories: biological sex and gender identity.
Biological sex is the sex of a person as determined by their chromosomes. This is usually either male or female, but there are rare cases of intersex people, who have both male and female characteristics. Gender identity is the gender which a person sees themselves as. This can be different from the biological sex a person is assigned at birth.
There are many different types of gender identity, which can be broadly divided into two categories: cisgender and transgender.
- Cisgender is a term used to describe people who identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. For example, if a person is assigned female at birth and identifies as a woman, she is cisgender.
- Transgender is a term used to describe people who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. For example, if a person is assigned male at birth and identifies as a woman, she is transgender.
There are many different types of transgender identities, which can be broadly divided into two categories: non-binary and binary.
- Non-binary is a term used to describe people who do not identify as either male or female. For example, if a person is assigned male at birth and identifies as neither a man nor a woman, they are non-binary.
- Binary is a term used to describe people who identify as either male or female. For example, if a person is assigned female at birth and identifies as a woman, they are binary.
Gender identity is a complex and personal thing, and there are many different types of gender identity. What is important is that people are able to identify as the gender they feel most comfortable with, regardless of their biological sex.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yRegardless of what special snowflakes what to believe
you are a male or a female. If you have gender dysphoria then you are a male who thinks he is a woman or a woman who thinks she is a man.
If you are a man who has surgery to look like a woman, you are still a man. You just have your penis rammed up inside you and have fake boobs. Your cellular make up is still XY. NOTHING will change that.
There is no undecided. You don't pick your gender, your race, or your age, etc.
You can claim to be black if you were born white. But you are still white. Same rule applies.40 Reply- 1012 Reply

being a intersex is a mental disorder? ok lol..
- +1 y
dude you are an idiot. Intersex is a real thing
- +1 y
so being hermaphrodite isn't a real thing? what do you have to say to almost any species which has animals or plants with mixed chromosomes? trees that are both male and female and can reproduce with eachother? mammals who are hermaphrodites? humans that have mixed chromosomes? they are fake? you are ignorant.
- +1 y
no but that doesn't make you a hermaphrodite. hermaphrodites legitimately have mixed chromosomes and it has nothing to do with that female male brain crap. its an actual thing that can be measured.
- +1 y
@kickme im convinced that you have stage 1 down syndrome.
Genders only 2
Proof we are mammals creatures and look around in scientific terms there is only 2 genders for mammals even if they do bisexual stuff they still call them female and male40 Reply- 1.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yTwo. In the extremely rare cases 3 since I've seen record cases of hermaphrodites. Regardless anything else is a mental disorder.
63 Reply- +1 y
so you basically said there are 2 but three lol
- +1 y
@guysaskgirls555 I haven't met a hermaphrodite myself, so it's still up for grabs.
- +1 y
they are all throughout the animal kingdom
+1 yTwo with the rare third hermaphrodite. I think most people who say there are 60+ genders are mixing up gender and sexuality.
20 Reply- 579 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yThe 3rd is only a hybrid based on physical "ambiguity". There is no name for it. However, all that crap about "oh I feel like a man in a girl's body" or vice versa is bull crap. That is a psychological illness.
40 Reply We as a society have 2 but we don't really understand gender biological speaking it may be possible to be born without or a completely different gender or something in between. Most people are born with one gender and many other traits that influence how the person will be in the end.
So stop worrying about how many there are just enjoy your life.00 Reply2. While I do believe gender is different from sex, and therefore you can identify as either, it's still one or the other.
I think all this "demi-girl gender fluid" nonsense is due to a large group of young adults that have trouble fitting in, or that just like they need attention, so they make up their own little label so they can feel special, and feel like they have some sort of unique identity.00 Reply

There are hermaphrodites that have both of those... but there are still only two genders.210 Reply- +1 y
hermaphrodites are a third gender
- +1 y
@guysaskgirls555 Nope... Because one of their genitals usually isn't functional...
Even if it was - they'd then be both genders medically speaking... If they had sperm as well as a working uterus... - +1 y
it doesn't really mater if one genitals didn't work. If a girls genitals didn't work would that make them any less of a female? what makes someone intersex is the mix chromosomes. Being both genders doesn't put you under one category therefor its a third category.
- +1 y
male and female, then there is a third which is both male and female. you can't class intersex in a male or female category, so they have their own
- +1 y
@guysaskgirls555 Their own is they're both genders... Not a third, never seen before one that does something the other two never did...
- +1 y
it doesn't matter what they can do rather their chromosomes. since they are both they can't fit in one category, does that mean that there is no category for them? no, their attributes are exclusive to them otherwise they wouldn't be labeled hermaphrodites in the first place. they are both genders, therefor they have their OWN category.
- +1 y
@guysaskgirls555 *where one individual possesses both the male XY and female XX chromosome pairs --- so they're, in fact, both genders... not a 'third gender.
Buddy... we can just agree to disagree... But I know what it means scientifically... - +1 y
gender-the state of being male OR female. The male and female gender does not include the exception of hermaphrodites therefor they can not be classed as female or male but both. Since they are both genders they have a category of their own and cannot fit the definition of one gender. thats why they are a third gender
- +1 y
@guysaskgirls555 Sure sure... I still stand by my statement. While you keep saying the same stuff over and over again...
- +1 y
im saying the same stuff over and over again because its pretty obvious and clear cut. There no other way to put it. They dont fall under the category of male and female so they have their own category. This is common sense
2.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Aside from males and females there is also hermaphrodite, apache helicopter and undecided gender.
40 ReplyI think you can be, say, a more feminine man or a more masculine woman, but there are still two genders. If there were more than two, then it would necessarily follow that an infinite number of genders exist, as many people who advocate for non-binary genders base their definition on personal identity and emotions.
10 Reply478 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Male= sperm

Every species except a few like seahorses are male and female. Only those 2 when mating can spawn, procreate, breed and even simpler make babies.
Only science and mainstream society state there are more than 2 genders.00 Reply

We just don't want to see innocent young people get their heads messed up by a bunch of wacky social engineers who have a goal of deconstructing western civilization. - +1 y
@I-am-a-nobody Uh-huh, alright.
Now tell me something: How is this different from the Christian fundamentalists ten years ago who said homosexuality was a sin?
You're both referencing some nebulous enemy that, for whatever reason, wants to destroy our way of life. Only while they considered such matters an affront to god, you consider it an attack on western civilization. Whatever that means.
If you're so desperate for a fight, look towards your communities. Rather than bicker about trivial matters, why not strive to end homelessness and reduce income inequality. It isn't just compassionate; it makes damn good economic sense. Read Keynes if you don't believe me, or attend a lecture on macroeconomics. - +1 y
@K_See
I studied economics and finance in school, so I've already had a few lectures on economics. Also, I've lived and worked for the last 30+ years in the real world, where economic theories fail miserably.
I'd call Keynes an idiot, but that would be an insult to all the idiots out there. He was much worse. Keynesian economics never work. The monstrous federal debt in the US (and elsewhere) is evidence of this.
You might want to check out the link between single parent families and poverty. You might also want to consider the stability of non traditional families versus traditional ones.
Also, check out the rates of violence among homosexual and bisexual couples versus heterosexual couples.
