Why does everyone love the Dallas Cowboys? Why are they the most popular NFL team? like everyone loves them?

Just a random question, it's because it seems that everyone or almost everyone loves the Dallas Cowboy's, like they are a majority of people's favorite NFL, Pro Football team, and a lot of these are people who have never even been to Texas, and neither do they have family, friends, or relatives from Texas either, or just from that region, like the Cowboy's have fans Nationwide, or World-Wide, for what reasons as to why are the Dallas Cowboys so popular? They have not won a Super Bowl in many years nor have they been to one in a while, last year they barely won their first playoff game in more than a decade. So just wondering, why does everybody love the Dallas Cowboy's? I know they have the nickname "America's Team", but why?

personally I'm not a Cowboys fan, it gets very annoying seeing Cowboy's fans literally everywhere all the time, because it just makes me think and say to those people "why can't you just root or cheer for your hometown team, or a more local team near you?"

I live in Southern California, and there are a lot of Cowboys fans here, maybe it's because Los Angeles does not have an NFL team? that Southern California has too many supplants?

They were nicknamed "Americas Team" in the late 70's on a NFL Films team highlight film . . . basically because the team WAS so popular . . . at that point they had such a long run of successful seasons, were always in the playoffs, that they were the most televised team and I think it's during that era that they got a lot of fans. More piles on in the 90s when they were successful again. True they haven't done well in the playoffs in the recent past, but have a very long history of being very good and along the way have picked up tons of fans.

Same could be said for the Yankees. It's all bandwagon. People root for the teams who are in the media the most. The Cowboys are "America's Team". Granted, they were nasty in the early 90's with Aikmen and Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, Nate Newton, etc.. But they don't deserve constant blowjobs from the press. Same for the Yankees.

Not around here people don't. If there was 1 team everyone jumped the band wagon on here in my area it would be the New England Patriots.

The only thing I can come up with for the Dallas cowboys is that they "Dominated" the 90's, and when you're a kid in the 90's watching the game you're most likely going to choose the best team as your favorite.

I would say maybe 1 in every 10 football fans here are Cowboy fans and I would say maybe 1 in 50 of those are actual fans and not band wagon chumps.

Same reason people like the Yankees and the Chicago Bulls. These teams were dynasties during people's formative years. Why do you think Lebron is a Yankees fan and not an Indians' fan? Derek Jeter grew up in Michigan, but was a Yankees fan.

Not to mention Lakers fans. Many of these teams were also the only teams to be nationally televised, back when cable wasn't as rampant as it is now. If we're talking about college, in the past, the only team with all their games televised to the whole country was Notre Dame, hence why it's "America's team" when it comes to college football.

I love my cities teams but hate some of the coaches but the sixers suck a** and damn near need to be sold cause they are payin big bucks to big time clowns

Oh, and you're right about half-way fans. These "fans" couldn't name 7 people on the team. But, sadly, this is the majority of the public.

Yeah, the spurs have a dynasty, but again, they are small market, aren't flashy, and they're dynasty started in '99, which is past the "formative" years of the majority of basketball fans.

Dude, it's the same everywhere. Yes, there's probably more in SoCal for the reasons you've listed, but you'll find that everywhere. Say you go to Milwaukee. You'll see more people with Lakers caps on than you'll see with Atlanta Hawks caps. That should basically explain it.
