Do you believe prostution should be legal? Why or why not?

Yes, because it's the only way to protect sex workers, who will always exist, from abuse. Legalising would allow for brothels to be set up where the workers have a contract like anyone else and are able to set clear boundaries about what they are and are not willing to do, protection can be provided and clients screened. If sex workers who suffered abuse could report the crimes committed against them without the fear of being prosecuted themselves.
It's a waste of police time to be arresting sex workers and their clients with whom they have a consensual agreement; the focus should be on people trafficking and sex slavery. The cases can currently be treated the same when they're clearly very different.
Legalisation might optimistically help to bring about more respect in society generally for sex workers.
Lastly just because there's nothing wrong with providing sexual services in exchange for money. "If you think sex workers "sell their bodies," but coal miners do not, your view of labor is clouded by your moralistic view of sexuality."
prostitution should be legalized . but i am worried .
bc i'm sure there will be some idiot on Donald Trump's cabinet who resents women
and especially resents women who don't pay 1/2 of the expenses on a date .
as part of their new tax plan Trump and Republicans will pass a law that says
if a guy pays 100% for a date including food transportation entertainment and or gifts,
that 1/2 of those monies should be declared as income by the female date and is therefore
taxable by the IRS . Yeah! You Just Watch!
" 1/2 of those monies should be declared as income"
If that is over $14,000 per year, then yes, existing law makes it taxable as a gift tax.
I have to be careful about that sometimes. I am getting pretty close this year with my girlfriend.
@OctoPops
BrileyCat didn't realize that there is already a law that taxes gifts over a certain amount, and that the tax is imposed on the giver.
If you pay a hooker, then she is legally taxed on that income, but they rarely declare it unless they work in a Nevada brothel.
Here in the netherlands it is legal, but only in certain areas. It has a lot benefits including a own union which helps them to have good workplaces and stuf
I think it would be a bad idea for society, but could and have easily argued for why it should be legal in the past.
a lot of drugs, violence and involvement with the sex slave trade is involved with prostitution. Legalizing it and making it safer by having business requorememts like std tests, inspections, background checks and licensing would put barriers on those other negatives and therefore lower the amount of accessory crimes involved.
Make it so if any underage person is working there they get shut down by police and license to run a whore house revoked in any state.
If girls can work at licensed, legal establishments that are safe. Then all the others go out of business.
Yes. Banning it is just a way for feminists to control men even further. You see, a desperate man would not be so desperate if he had access to sex (even if he payed). He would not be interested in following the agenda.
It is a bit like france banning paternity test.
That being said, if we were ro legalise it, rules should be made to:
Make sure that everyone chooses this path from free will
Make sure that STDs don't get spread
That compensation for the service is always delivered

Taxation

I think it's one of those fields where increased regulation might actually be a good thing.
As in proper safety, regular STD checks, taxing it, taking some of the criminal elements out of it etc, just for starters.
All women are prostitutes anyway, so make it legal for those who are honest about it, and that way they can pay taxes.
Here is the silly thing (not applicable in every jurisdiction). It is legal to have sex for free. It is illegal to have sex for money; unless a camera is recording it, then it is legal. It may be legal to have sex with a 17 year old for free, but it is illegal to have sex for free if a camera is recording it. Huh?
In once case, a camera makes prostitution legal, and in another case, a camera makes free sex illegal. Illogical.
I believe it should be, monitored in a safe environment. My reason for thinking this is because, there will be prostitute's whether it's legal or not, and if it's made legal then I imagine certain rules can be applied to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of the workers. 😎
Yes, however there needs to be mandatory sexual disease tests on all sex workers regularly and they need to pay taxes on it just like everyone else. People are going to pay for it one way or another, might as well make it legal and have it be regulated
Theoratically sound idea as prostitution can be regulated and crimes related to it will be brought under check. Practically only a few developed countries will be able to do that successfully. In rest of the countries the crimes related to prostitution like trafficking, rape of minors, abduction will in fact have a legal shelter. Also coutries where situation of women is not good government will have an excuse to not improve it as women will be earning albeit through prostitution.
Yes, but not for the reasons you think. Legalizing it would allow some regulations to be voted and would actually protect more the women : there would be laws to limit the spread of STDs, to prevent human trafic and exploitation. Basically, it would become cleaner and less mafia like and would improve the life of prositutes (and for some hungry men too)
Yes, prostitution will always exist, making it legal would cut down on the human trafficking, violence & drugs associated with it.
Yes, some guys would never get laid if it was not for prostitution. Besides, it would be easier to make sure that sex workers are tested for std's and such.
Yes, but I believe that it should be unionised. All prostitutes should have to be in organised groups for legal protection; they should also need to be regularly checked for infections/diseases.
nope, it will have bad impact on today's young children
they already misbehave!
its not good for took our country
our traditional and cultural beliefs are good
the one who made constitution was a wide person!
just imagine what will happen if this happens!
It should be illegal. I hope the day prostitution becomes acceptable in society never comes. It's disgraceful and lazy. If it's legal, more people will do it openly. That means more STIs spreading, as well as making the job seem acceptable to children.
Yes. It curbs illegal trafficking and exploitation by law enforcement
Yes, legal, taxed, periodic medical exams required, a special permit needs to be issued. Because if not, there will still be prostitution, but not taxed, not safe and STDs prevail.
It used to be legal. I believe it should be made legal again.
If a girl wants to sell her body that’s her choice... but it should be HER choice.
I believe it should be legalized.
Why?
Because it's damn good business and if people want to sell themselves, it's their own business and nobody else can say a thing about it.
It can be because it is exchangeable not illegal by force and dangerous to make another life will die. by the way , my opinion not support it and never ever advice someone do. I still believe there are more solution to make money than that.
Yes it should be legalized. It's not going to gotten rid of. The more they push to get rid of it the more there going to push it under ground. And make it more dangerous for the poeple who are working in it. And if they did legalize it they could control it more, like taxing, age, medical check ups, and where it's done, and the safety of all that are evolved.
Yes, so long as the prostitute is there by her own choice and an adult.
I believe that it should be legal, I dont see whats necessarily wrong with getting paid to have sex.
Yes it should be. There will always be prostitutes and people who want their services. Regulate the shit out of it and make sure people are not exploited.
Absolutely, and with it needs to be mandatory sex ed and health classes in all schools.
Yes. It's no one's businees but the prostitute and his/her client's. Having sex is legal, selling things is legal, so why should selling sex be illegal? There's no good reason.
Yes making it illegal is why trafficking exists, and if a woman decides she wants to let people have sex with her for money and the man agrees and they're both ok with it then let them
It's been legal in Hollywood for years

Yes to many reasons like it would make it safer and if people want to sell their bodies. It should be their right to do so
It is technically legal if you just video tape it because then you can say you at just shooting a porn
I think you need a license for that
I don't think so there are armature Porn videos put up
oh ok, well good luck with that
@FreedomByChoice
No, you don't need a license to shoot a porno.
It might help in your defense if you have a business license (free in some places, thousands of dollars potentially in California).
@WalterRadio yeah, we already covered that lol
plus, i read up on it.
Yeah. Prostitution needs to be regulated and taxed.
Yes so very lonly and shy guyz like me can have a good sex life
Absolutely, and regulated so that the prostitutes had regular health screenings.
Make it a destination kind of thing not everywhere. You can't stumble across and need to make plans to go.
Yes, because then there could be rules and regulations to protect those in the field...
I believe in Canada being a prostitute is legal but purchasing prostitutes is not
Yeah there's some pretty good humour in our laws
No. It's disgusting and part of why there are so many stis floating around. Anyone involved should be forced to wear a chastity belt.
Yes Taxed and Regulated properly it can be a safe and successful industry.
The myth of a "Consensual Trade"
Isn't there someone you forgot to ask?
Buyer: I consent
Seller: I consent
Government: I don't!
Yes because they provide a service lots of men are desperate for and allows women an easy way to avoid poverty or pay their way through college.
Not in the streets please, it attracts the wrong kind of crowd.
Yes. Then they can have a corporate structure and be considered as other service oriented industry
it works in other countries. also, that's a very broad brush there are different forms of prostitution and if your legalizing something the wording is very important in the discussion of the law.
Yes it should be legal for what they call Bunny Ranch Farms.
No, ILLEGAL... but only in respect to the fact that it sends a message that it's immoral. But it would not be an "enforceable" law
How about you just preach about the immorality in church/mosque/temple, and let the rest of society get on with reducing the harm done to people (including a large number of worshippers) from things that are human nature?
For what it's worth, I live in a country where it's legal, and I have no interest in going to one, not because it's "immoral", but because I want to love any woman I make love to.
Then why have the law at all?
I only see three possibilities with such a law:
1. It makes it less likely for people (mostly poor women) to report other crimes, like rape, assault, etc. because they have to admit they were guilty of the crime of prostitution at the time
2. it teaches people to ignore laws they don't like (like the laws against sex toys in certain states)
3. The law will be enforced unevenly by law enforcement against groups of people they don't like, especially with elected police forces in religious areas
people should be able to do what they want with their bodies (i have been there) but procurement should be illegal
Not legal but legalised in the sense that the johns and the pimps get in trouble but not the prostitutes
YEs, legal. Cause I could get paid for what I give away for free now.
It can't be stopped.
The only thing that's illegal is *OPENLY* showing, in the streets, that sex is available for money.
I mean making it illegal isn't gonna stop people from fucking around. Everyone is a horny bastard
Well most men pay for sex one way or the other, so it already is legal.
If your knew anything about sex trafficking, doubt you'd be asking this
It should be... if sex itself is legal why not prostution. Victimless crime.
yes, that way you would contribute at least something to the budget
Yeah, with some regulations of course though.
It should be legal
Yes but still frowned upon by society
With camgirls it basically is.
not human trafficking.. and that's where I say NO
Yes of course
it shouldn't be llegal
No, I don't think it should be
gross no. what a great way to pass around stds
No, not at all.
