Why do all chinese look the same?

I'm a Norwegian and I don't think all the Chinese looks the same like if they were clones. It's possible to see the difference between them like everyone else in my opinion. They may share similar height, hair color, eye color, skin color etc. But the facial features are different. I can easily distinguish between Chinese people like how I can distinguish between Europeans, Africans, Middle-eastern etc.

I can see the difference between people, but I do admit I think humans aren't as diverse or unique appearance wise as we like to believe. We may have unique personalities, but our voices and looks aren't unique. We all have a look alike. It's because of a limit of variety and it only exist 500 facial templates according to a theory.

Anyway, why you may think an ethnic group may look lesser diverse than others is because of what you're used to see. You're used to see people in your own country and therefor can easier distinguish them. But since your brain isn't trained to see the differences between other groups it's difficult to see the differences. If the majority of the population have the same hair, eye and skin color it's more difficult to distinguish them.

In the Nordic and other European countries it's more variety. We've blonde, brown, ginger, gray, white and black hair. We've also blue, green, gray, brown, hazel and blue-green eyes. When it comes to skin colors we've pink, white like pink, beige, brown and yellow like pink/beige skin tones. In China for example the majority of the population have black hair, brown eyes and either a yellow like or a beige like skin tone. Features like button nose, straight hair and narrow eyes is also common there giving an uniformity like look. If you notice the different sizes and facial features distances for example on people, it would be a good start to be able to distinguish them.

I guess it has to do with our upbringing and facial recognition. The fact that non Asians have problems telling Asiana apart is probably due do what kind of faces we are surrounded by most of our life. The brain has to learn faces and is better at recognizing those similar to our family and friends.
I can imagine it works both ways too; i. e. Asians finding it difficult to tell apart "Westeners".

Just something I have thought about - a theory I guess. I don't mean to offend anybody! :)

my brother my father and mother joke about it like how some white families may joke about how all chinese look the same, some of my racist classmates, need i say more? its still racism, and tbh everyone has a nose, everyone has a mouth and eyes, etc. its a phenomenon that we can tell people apart by the slight differences they have in their features, so maybe the reason you think all chinese look the same is because of the skin tone, but germans are light-skinned, are they not? same with brits, and many countries in Europe.

It's not racism, Tomboy. And I'm not a racist. People aren't saying they are superior because they think all Chinese look alike. It's just an observation of characteristics. If a company was denying someone a job because they think someone has Chinese characteristics then that would be a racist discrimination. Why? Because it's done with hate toward a person's race. If there's no hate involved then it's not racism.
But I can tell apart Germans and Brits. Not Chinese though.
