Do you think community service is punishment , and is it beneficial to the offender?

It depends on the person. But I think its good to have a wrong blotted out by doing a right. It teaches the difference between right and wrong. But at the same time it could be taken with bitterness. I suppose it is helping to do something good. But I feel like the program should encourage them by saying why they are doing it. Something that would show them that it is better to do good than bad. Something like that. Help them to have heart behind the service they are doing
Its not about benefiting the offeneder its about punishing tge offender. Pluss the community benifits from the free labor.
I think community service is a great way to make a person productive and contribute to society as well as kind of make amends, like give back for misdoings

if they do paint on buildings an then have to paint over yes it makes them stop doing it
Depending on the program, who runs it. People can benefit from service, helping others.
It may not be as effective as jail time but at least the offender contributes to some sort of public service instead of just sitting in a cellar.
never heard of this, but very nice of the judge to do this
Yes and no. Depends on how much service and what they are doing.
No it's just cheaper than prison
