+1 yNo, because we’d get pussies men & women, who aren’t meant to be warriors. I used to think recently actually, but I realized there can be more harm than good from forcing a hippie to fight or forcing a dentist to fight as well. It has to be natural and more or less comfortable for the person. People are different and forcing some to be something they’re not especially when it comes to war, will get people killed.
52 Reply- +1 y
Correct. War is hell. People die. Men have to sign up for the draft, women want equal rights.. if they are a dentist they will most likely be a dentist in the service. There is way more jobs than just combat ones. Same goes for the hippie. If he's a pacifist there are not combat roles. Support roles. The draft isn't used all the time. It's used when they need the bodies. They need the extra man power so yes people who don't want to be there will be there.
- +1 y
The services already have plenty who aren’t meant to be warriors, but serve in combat MOSs anyway.

Welcome, I also said yes
Women would only be a burden on the military. If it's something behind the scenes, maybe, but women aren't as strong as men and any role in combat would be a burden to everyone else. Women should stay at home and raise the children tbh
36 Reply- +1 y
Those women are the exception. They volunteered. Israel has a mandatory service commitment for all it's residents. Does that make every woman ever born in isreal the exception?
As you pointed out, there are more than just infantry jobs. Nurses, admin, maintainers, etc. Non combat military members. - +1 y
Serving is still serving. It's take everything. I never said women should be front line troops. I said they can serve. They can do a part for the bigger picture. I gave examples of the very best in that regard but it doesn't mean other women can't serve. That they would be a burden to the military. they would be a huge asset.
+1 yIf itis for men then it should be for women.

I know Israel is one of the countries that conscripts women:

5.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. In my opinion, if all military occupations are open to women, then they should be held to the same standards as the men. So, if a country has compulsory service for men, then women should be part of that as well.
All that being said, I am 100% compulsory military service. I am a veteran myself and the last thing I would want to deal with would be an entire generation of unmotivated soldiers who dont want to be there. They make for poor soldiers and typically start doing stupid sh*t in order to get out early.10 Reply
+1 yI don't really see equality as "men and women must be exactly the same in every regard". But I definitely think they should have that opportunity. And to everyone claiming women can't do it, I have seem unremarkable-looking men complete SF training. If you're fit and have the right mentality, you can do it.
10 Reply680 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I think most young people in my country can benefit from military service, and if guys have to do it, then girls should too, unless they want to recognize their privilege and accept what comes with that. Generally, they should be placed in auxiliary units, and not put in units that require cohesion, toughness, etc.

+1 yUnder no circumstances. The United States Military would never need to draft women; our population is large enough and our technology advanced enough that just the 18-21 year old guys can beat the rest of the world combined. It would be unecessary money and paperwork and effort that should be spent elsewhere.
26 Reply- +1 y
Lol I guess you've never heard of a place called "China". Or "India". The U. S. population is tiny by comparison. You're not gonna be the preeminent superpower for much longer. Anything else is just wishful thinking.
- +1 y
The military capacity of both China and India is fairly pathetic. Neither country has a particularly effective or efficient method of training recruits and their technological capabilities are very much inferior to ours. Have you ever heard of something called a navy? Well, the U. S. Navy is largest by tonnage (that means our ships are really, really big). Neither China nor India could even hope to defeat it. And yes, the U. S. will indeed remain the superpower for the forseeable future, as our only competitors (Russia and China) are nowhere near as wealthy or powerful as we are (The U. N. is basically our bitch).
- +1 y
Oh, we’d never go to war with China; both our economies would violently implode. As far as military capabilities go, it really wouldn’t be much of a fight. Russian artillery is pitiful and their naval capabilities are far below the U. S.
- +1 y
The Naval strength is just something that I’ve read in several places; A good friend of mine who deployed to Ukraine last year told me about the artillery. Apparently, up until this year, most Russian artillery along the Ukrainian border was too poorly maintained to function properly.
It shouldn’t be compulsory unless we’re actually at war and need people...
fight or flight instinct is natural and can’t be taught. There’s no use forcing a bunch of people who naturally flee to protect themselves into armed service12 Reply- 1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yI feel that women should have to sign up for the draft, but required service I don't think so.
Men were allowed to vote because they agreed to defend their country, women were allowed to vote with nothing in return.10 Reply
+1 yIf it is compulsory for men, then it should be compulsory for women as well. However, I prefer the idea of having all members of the military sign up voluntarily.
20 ReplyNobody should be required to serve in the military. And it should be illegal to sell military service as patriotic when the government's military agenda has literally nothing to do with freedom, or even nationalism to any degree.
20 ReplyIt's permissable under neccessity. I think any modern nation would conscript women if they were few in neccessary numbers. It's just it's redundant to have both sexes operating under the same military unit in a lot of cases. Typically you want units made up of the strongest available men, anything less comes at the cost of a loss of life.

+1 yNo. I don't think women should ever serve in the military. Nothing to do with sexism but if no one is back home. Who will take care of the children and old people?

+1 yMilitary service? So long as rights, opportunities, and government benefits are tied to military service, then it should be obligatory regardless of sex. But combat roles? Some people are good at machine work. Some are good at code breaking. Give them something difficult but that they can do.
10 ReplyI might have agreed with this earlier, but after 2 children I believe women have no place in the military.
21 ReplyIt absolutely can be taught. you may have the instinct to do one thing but force yourself to do the other.

This was a response meant for someone's post anyways.
Yes absolutely. Women complain they aren't equals in the eyes of men. Cool be my equal. I had to sign up for the draft. Do it to. Just because you're in the military doesn't mean you are a front line troop. You can work as support for those troops. Lunch lady, finance troop, nurse, doctor, paralegal, etc.
Saying women aren't cut out for combat is ridiculous. Israel is in constant combat from it's neighbors, so much so they have a mandatory 2 year service commitment for everyone. Some of those women actually make it through their special forces training. These women excel at combat.
Signing up for the draft doesn't mean you will have to serve; it means you might.
There are plenty of women who have already volunteered for the military. Women can serve just as well as men.
344 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It shouldn't be compulsory for anyone. Of nobody thinks a war is worth fighting. Then you probably shouldn't be fighting it.
10 ReplyI think women should be drafted when there's an active draft. They should have been given that responsibility when they gained the right to vote. Alternatively to anyone who is adamantly against women being drafted, the alternative is revoking women's right to vote. Personally I'd prefer the former, but the current situation where they get to pick and choose what rights they want and don't want while simultaneously chanting equality is unacceptable to me.

They will not do well and by no means will they help their country or platoon (as proven by studies of mixed vs male only platoons)
But to throw “equality” in their face, they need to see that being a man isn’t “privileged”.01 Reply- +1 y

The army is not thr Girl Scouts with guns.
Most women are physically incapable of serving anyway.16 Reply- +1 y
"Most women"? Seriously?
- +1 y
@Scaramanga
Yes, most women.
I am a former soldier of the 2/14 Light Horse.
Anyone who thinks that women can fight has not been to war, or even trained for it.
Women do not have the muscle mass, the upper-body strength, or shoulder structure and their hearts and lungs (as well as their brains) are 10 per cent smaller.
Very, very few women can pass a combat fitness test.
Women are smaller, weaker, slower and much easier to damage.
There is no place for them past the rear in support roles. - +1 y
The same could be said for many men. Finland has an all-female SF unit. They are better shots than the men.
- +1 y
Lots of women these days are in better shape than lots of men these days.
- +1 y
Women also outscore men on conscientiousness, which is pretty useful in the military. I have seen normal-looking dudes complete SF training. The idea that you have to be some beefcake to be in the military is B. S.
- +1 y
@Scaramanga
It is self evident that you have not served in an army and have no idea what you are talking about.
Here is another way to consider the situation.
Take a 60kg woman Strap to her the typical infantryman’s load of 40 to 50kg.
Have her cover 10km at quick time, then assault up hill, while maintaining formation; then bayonet fight a couple of 100kg men on the objective.
In the real world (outside of Gender Studies) it is physically impossible for a woman to do that.
