I think it depends. I’d be offended to see the descendants of those who raped, slaughtered, tortured, and jacked up my home dress up as a Native American historical figure... I’m just generally speaking though.
I find it offensive that people find this offensive.

The only ones who get “offended” are the WHITE MIDDLE CLASS Intersectional/Identitarian SJW’s who have to show how “woke” they are, the First Nation’s people have no real problems with someone dressing as a character from history and find the Intersectional/Identitarian SJW’s to be hilarious.
My opinion is that if you're not doing it to mock/shame/degrade their culture, I don't think it should be offensive. But some people would likely find it offensive.
Kind of a loaded question I can see both sides I know it's most likely harmless but a lot of native peoples may take offence to it simply because it's their heritage and all the trauma and struggles they have endured they may want to keep their traditional wear for themselves. tough question
It's no more offensive than non White people driving cars, using the internet, etc. lol Or non Whites dying their hair blonde, etc. lol Just do it. It's fine. the same people that would complain about it do the same stuff I just mentioned too.
Just being hypothetical here but how offensive would it be for a white man to dress up as Nazi - Pocahontas fusion. On a sliding scale of Oprah to David duke?
Yeah I don't see how coloring skin is offensive. No one said shit about the Wayans brothers when they painted their faces white. I never even considered someone could find that offensive.
Perhaps it has to do with mockery of the race from a member of the dominant group. Did you think blackface during the 1800s was done for positive reasons or the idiots that do variations of it now for other races? Pretending to be part of the oppressed when you are privileged is an insult to what those people have gone through and is very ignorant. YOU see it as merely coloring skin. Others see it as the racially privileged performing an action that denigrates them (and has been done repeatedly) because they simply feel like it. sites.williams.edu/.../ And white chicks was a satire about white privilege and racial stereotypes. It’s meant to bring awareness.
It's really hard for me to know what people thought of something in the 1800s. I don't believe history is necessarily reliable. People today won't describe don't all describe the world as the same place either.
I see people as equal now and I don't want to treat anyone better or different because of what happened to people 200 years ago. I don't care who paints their face. I don't find it racist because paint isn't inherently racist and I don't believe painting it means the person is trying to be racist.
"And white chicks was a satire about white privilege and racial stereotypes. It’s meant to bring awareness."
That's awesome. I don't think they were racist at all. That's my point. A white person can dress like a black person simply because it's fun to dress like something they aren't without any racial intent. The problem with democrats is they tend to assume cynical, negative intentions.
How would you even dress as Anne Frank? Wear 1940's German schoolgirl clothing? If you do that for Halloween I doubt anyone will guess who you are supposed to be.
Its offensive in my opinion because people dont know the story of pocahontas, the Disney version glossed over the fact that John Smith was 20-30 years older than that poor pre teen girl.

Everything is offensive- so don’t stress it. Do what you want.

Is it offensive for a black kid to dress up as a Puritan?
Not, unless they say the term "pilgrim".

It's not offensive it's just a costume. fucking hell

Nothing is offensive. Well, maybe dressing up as a nazi. Rest is fine. And all the people who are offended for that are just whiny little bitches.

@SentientBrick Let me imagine that for a second... A nazi pocahontas. Fun to make but I'm not sure the nazi part would work well.
It's only offensive to lie and say you're Native American when you're not in order to get preferential treatment in college.
It is considered offensive. Yes. You’re not flattering the image. That’s like someone donning blackface to be MLK.
Yeah I don't see how coloring skin is offensive. No one said shit about the Wayans brothers when they painted their faces white. I never even considered someone could find that offensive.

Nope, not at all. Of course dumb asses on the other side will tell you otherwise.
Just pull it off and all good, don't give Pocahontas a bad name
If people are offended by a costume, their opinion isn't very important anyway.
No only people make it that. I think it would be nice to honor them that way.
I totally agree. Why would we wear something we hate? People that believe this have some kind of mental issue though.
I'm pretty sure it's considered offensive. It's like dressing up as Anne Frank
But can't someone dress up as Anne Frank to honor them? But not make fun?
Is anne frank offensive?
Last I checked she was no David duke or Hitler.

I dont see why it would be. If anything its celebrating the culture. Same as dressing up as a (European) pirate, geisha, pharaoh, etc.
It’s only offensive if you’re doing to make fun of the culture
