In your family, does/did the mother go topless at home in the presence of her children?

In a recent poll related to a legal case in Utah, half of the many people that voted said that they don't see any problem with a woman being topless at home in the presence of her children/stepchildren.

That got me wondering how common that is, so for this poll the question is whether in your own family (either where you're the parent or when you were the child) the mother goes/went topless in the presence of children older than about 5.

For this poll, only full breast exposure while not trying to hide it counts. Brief accidental exposure doesn't count, nor does minor exposure while breastfeeding.

For my part, I grew up in a home where dad was a doctor and tended to treat nudity as just another day at the office. So we tended to be somewhat more casual about nudity in our family then did my friend's families. A fact that only gradually dawned on me as I got older and started doing "sleepovers" at friend's homes and such.

To be sure, I tended to see dad naked only if were at the gym locker room or maybe if I went into the bathroom while he was showering. Never saw my mother naked or even topless. That said, seeing my older brother and sister and younger brother naked - and them seeing me - was not uncommon.

It was not a lifestyle or anything. Just a sort of casual attitude.

My girlfriend and I have lived together for over 12 years and have three children - boys 9 and 8, girl age 6 - together. (We don't want to be married.) I sleep in the nude, but my girlfriend sleeps in pajamas normally but for us to be around the house partially or completely naked - particularly when getting ready for the day or to call it a night, walking to or from the bathroom and such or sometimes, in the summer, sunbathing nude in our secluded backyard - is not unusual.

The kids have seen us naked and in fact my oldest - a little firecracker in any case - wants to be like dad and will go around nude himself. (Which can be a problem when we have guests. We're working on that.) No one gives it a thought.

In fact, right now my girlfriend is downstairs topless and in her panties. The kids are not up yet - but it is not impossible that if they awaken before my girlfriend goes back up to shower and get dressed that they will likely see mommy. (Okay, true confessions, I got up and went down to my home office and am naked right now. I'll go back up to shower and dress shortly. The kids have actually seen me naked more than they have their mommy.)

Bottom line, we don't make it a lifestyle but we don't hide it either and the kids take it in stride. Every family will be different and even I will allow that we are not quite average - a bit of a statistical blip in the curve by American norms. Still, it is not a matter of great moment - not at all sexual.

I think is disgusting and highly disturbing for children to see their parents naked. Especially when they reach puberty and their hormones are kicking all over the place.

We did, but it was just mum and I in our house. It also wasn’t to make a point, it was casual like getting changed or walking to and from the bathroom if you forgot your clean clothes. Personally I have two issues with the Utah story - the first is that they aren’t her children, unless BOTH biological parents have consented to her form of education then it’s not ok and the second is that she’s gone out of her way to “make a point”. It’s like a natural living situation where a child has walked in on her changing - she’s made a conscious choice to be naked in front of children that aren’t hers to make a point that it’s ok 🤷🏻‍♀️ While I certainly don’t agree that it should be illegal I’d be pretty unhappy if I was those kids biological mum

No. Not appropriate but it’s up to the parents... which the step mom in this case didn’t have legal right guys of guardianship so she probably should’ve had that discussion with both parents before deciding what she thought was best to teach the children. Because they aren’t her children alone to teach.

My mum did. She breastfed us all when we were babies. And she doesn’t feel the need to be super careful to hide it around her older kids. Nor should she have to. She should be comfortable feeding her baby in her own home. So it wasn’t really an issue in my house. No one cared.

I've seen my parents naked many times as a kid and even as a teenager and an adult. My parents don't give a damn if we see them naked lol especially my mom, she will literally change in front of me and since she doesn't speak English and I'm her translator, I've been with her at her doctor's appointments and saw her naked. It just isn't a big deal in my family. We are a family. Not strangers. So we aren't going to think nasty thoughts about our parents. Unless you have a sick mind lol

I'm cuban, it's pretty normal to see mothers walk around topless in front of their boys or girls.

Whether it's because they are taking a shower, putting on a bra, and etc... it's a normal part of life.

I'd think that only strippers, alcoholics or drug addicts would be the only ones considering doing that kind of thing in front of children, just because they're so out of it or it seems like it doesn't matter. Yes my mother would walk through the home topless every day. I believe what is important is the context such as culture and lifestyle of the family. Probably not an issue if breast aren’t sexualized. I don’t think it’s good at all if done as it was in our home. My parents weren’t discreet and they highly sexualized breast. I know this because they did not conceal their erotic interest in boobs. My mother was very busty and liked to flaunt them

That Utah woman, and her lawyers, by the way are all disgustingly stupid. The situation between her and her husband isn't the same.
