I feel it's questionable and politically charged and I also feel... it will backfire. Johnson was impeached... largely for being too generous to the south. He was democrat/unify and impeached by republicans... but never removed from office as senate did not approve.

I listened to a broadcast of ex-President Obama saying that most Americans don't want major change in our country and that he would use his influence to frustrate the likes of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren from ever having a serious chance at becoming president. No, he didn't ask about what Hunter Biden was doing. He asked the Ukraine to investigate that, and to investigate Joe Biden in connection with a debunked conspiracy theory. Then, he withheld almost 400 million dollars of military aid with the intent of keeping it until the Ukraine complied. Do you dispute either of those facts? Like, the chair of the Federal Election Commission (someone who I think we can both agree has rather more expertise on this matter than either of us) has explicitly stated “It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U. At this point the impeachment doesn't even matter anymore. It is very clear that the democrats do not trust their own chances for next years election and try everything they can to play dirty. Second, you understand that if he's removed from office, the government does not get to choose who leads instead? That's what a vice president is for. Trump's actions however are out of the ordinary- explicitly requesting that a foreign government interfere in our elections, and withholding federally approved aid with the intention of keeping it until they did so. That's like, explicitly illegal, and decidedly unprecedented.

The question of foreign involvement in elections.. well to be honest there are an array of issues, from foreign funding and corporate funding, to allies and enemies meddling into elections.

If Trump is being investigated for potentially illegals dealings in regards to Ukraine, then so should Biden. Why should any American be allowed to exploit the delicate economic and political situation in Ukraine? Getting the Ukrainians to fire a prosecutor investigating corruption is interfering with that country's legal system.

Since you've evidently been paying attention to the impeachment proceedings, can you clarify which parts exactly you think lack enough evidence to justify impeachment?
@cipher42 Well the first article is nonsense, we have the transcript, Zelensky said nothing was wrong multiple times, other Ukraine officials said nothing was wrong. So the first article: Abuse of power is garbage. Additionally, the accusation is in essence an accusation of bribery, which is specifically named as an impeachable offense, so it's very curious to me that they would not write a the first article up as bribery or even add a third listed as bribery... it's almost like saying "abuse of power" is more broad and easier to make impeachment happen by not bringing forth *specific* charges that would be more easily disproven.
The second article was ordering others not to conform to subpoenas issued by the impeachment committee. I'm not sure exactly how impeachable that is, but as I understand it, it came from Trump's side not being allowed to call witnesses themselves. It was something like the committee was going to call on whatever witnesses felt would allow it push impeachment and the opposition would not be allowed to cross-examine or call their the witnesses they wanted to talk to. So Trump did a similar thing, so no side really gets to have all the witnesses it wants. However, when this happened I was under the impression that it was a legal, albeit disapproved of move. Then Schiff supposedly goes and secretly subpoenas the phone records of an *innocent journalist who is not under investigation* ... and then publishes them to the public.
So the second article would have more merit than the first (which has none), but it seems like it came about as the result of a kangaroo trial and partisan political tactics on the part of democrats. So... I don't know.
But whatever, it's done now. It will do the news cycle. The senate trial will follow CNN will throw more shade, the senate won't convict. Then it will be some very tense months leading up to the election. There will be a sizable portion of people that will be convinced that Trump should have been removed but wasn't because the government is corrupt and fascist, etc. There's groups like antifa that have a penchant for stoking the flames and literal violence. The issue is that we don’t have proof of quid pro quo. So it shouldn’t be an impeachable offense because there was no offense. My point about specificity was that “bribery” is largely clear and identifiable. But “abuse of power” is a nebulous term. If I say the call with Zelensky was bribery, then you look for evidence of that understanding between Trump and Zelensky and if you can’t find it then there’s no evidence to support impeachment. If I say the call was “abuse of power” well what does that mean? Intimidation, bribery, extortion, quid pro quo? Well it’s all of the above or anything else that fits under the subjective term of “abuse.” It’s whatever they need it to mean to get the votes for impeachment. That’s all it’s really about – votes. What makes something impeachable? Well the language is a bit wobbly. Treason and bribery are specifically identified, but beyond that only the generality of “high crimes and misdemeanours.” So how do you decide what is impeachable? Votes. If you have the votes then it’s impeachable, and votes come from the house and the senate which means it’s generally going to take partisan lines to some extent. And you can see the argument that follows from that being discussed during the testimony of the “constitutional experts”; If we impeach based on this then what’s to stop the next Democrat president getting impeached unfairly by a republican house and republican senate? And that’s really what’s going on here, the house is Democrat so they have the votes to impeach and they did. The senate is Republican so there’s no 2/3 to convict.
Impeachment is just a political weapon and in this instance it’s being used for ill, in my opinion.

How do I feel about the impeachment? First let's start with the fact that I'm politically independent, I follow both right and left news media and have watched this from both perspectives. Trump has committed multiple crimes, he has milked the national treasury for his own gain and he has made it very clear that he feels that he is above the law. I am glad that they finally impeached him, but I don't think that it will go through the Senate as the Democrats messed it up. They had him dead to rights on multiple crimes but chose to move forward on a wishy washy set of articles that will easily be be laughed out of the Senate floor. I would have much rather seen a large set of solid criminal accusations that would have to be addressed one at a time rather then this milktoast piece of paper.

And in terms of being a President, if he doesn't successfully get impeached, the US will be an entire laughing stock. It will impact us nationally and globally as well. So as respectfully as possible, I'm not sure how much weight their opinions may have, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have them.

James Madison and the Convention specifically rejected that, which is why they set the "treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors" guidelines. We are not a Parliamentary system, but the House vote is very much like a "No Confidence" vote rather than the charging of genuine crimes.
Both articles of impeachment include criminal offenses. The "Abuse of Power" article includes charges of criminal bribery and wire fraud, and the "Obstruction of Congress" article is basically a specific kind of Obstruction of Justice, which is in fact a crime. Where exactly have you been getting your information on impeachment from, because I would suggest that you either choose a better source or pay better attention

Trump has detained more illegals, but he’s also ripped apart and traumatized families and allowed children to be neglected and die in detention centers. He’s also incited violence, refused to condemn white supremacists, cheated on his pregnant wife with pornstars, “grabs women by the pussy”, and his golf trips alone could cost taxpayers more than $340 million.
