Is our society normalizing the sexualization of children on TikTok?

I know there’s a lot going on in the world, but it seems TikTok is among one of the popular quarantine pastimes, including following minors such as Charli D’amelio, only 15.

I can see that many of the more sexual comments end up getting deleted (by her parents maybe) but it’s still pretty scary to think about the reaction that kids are receiving.

A lot of really weird and disgusting things are beginning to become normalized. Things like pedophilia, bestiality and other sick sexual attractions are clinging onto the normalization of LGBT people and hoping to follow the same arguments that it is just a 'sexuality'. Seriously. I have watched videos on this topic, and there is an alarmingly number of people in support of pedophilia as a sexuality and even suggesting children can consent. As years go on, clothing is getting more sexualized for younger age groups, like bikinis for toddlers (this is so unnecessary - the tops are meant to hold boobs), children have an easy access to porn and this can lead to more sexualized behaviour when exposed to at a younger age. Not a lot has been done, if anything, to stop minors viewing porn, it concerns me. Obviously, it doesn't matter what a child is wearing or doing - no adult should ever find it sexually attractive or act on that even if they did.

Social media in every form has made it easier for predators to find underage victims. I personally don't believe you should be allowed any kind of social media account until you are 16. I got my first social media account at this age (Facebook) and I was quite fine, if not better off, without it. There should definitely be a way to confirm your age. I am not saying the kids are in the wrong, obviously the pedos are, but this would protect them.

I've watched my fair share of tiktok compilations on YouTube and they're all just silly jokes, never seen anything sexualizing children. Looked up the name you mentioned and none of the results on Google images looked sexual to me. Of course pedophiles exist on all platforms, even here, but I don't think it's being 'normalized' in the mainstream despite their efforts. In fact I constantly get videos recommended on YouTube where members of the LGBT community call out pedophiles that try to sneak their way into their community. Overall from what I can tell there's little support for such things amongst those who aren't pedophiles themselves and luckily they're rare.

I mean ever since I've seen teens dressing more promiscuous and more like adults I guess. You know clothes that's very revealing and what not. It's been going on for a while now.

I think too many kids are now seeking ways to be famous and trying to be a young rich spoiled brat.

After all it is glorified on social media. And some kids are looking up to these "influencers" as role models. Which I think is just absolutely terrible.

I really don't think it's "society's" fault that parents have no authority over their own children and their kids have no respect for them or for themselves either.

It's caused by fathers who have no idea how to be a man and women who have no idea how to be a mother.

Society is normalising it in general, I don't think it would be fair to solely pi k out TikTok. For example, this website has posted some pretty borderline post regarding young girls. With lots of comments about how "sexy" they look, from both men and women. I have been quite shocked by it to be honest.

I think TikTok and social mediums are completely neutral. The problem lies with the users, both the uploaders and the viewers being the problem. Back in the olden days when I was 15, we had MySpace, which was also heavily criticized for exploiting minors, but I came out of it as a fresh, pure virgin. Hell, even to this day. I think social media have protected my virginity rather than sexualize me, dammit.

If they don't, and do look older, than mistaking them as older is OK as long as upon realizing they are a minor you back off (some men don't).
