I grew up in Mississippi-truly the armpit of the world. Large urban areas (which trend democratic by the way) might have gay areas that are tolerant but the majority of the south is a large number of ignorant racist homophobic redneck crackers. I observed open, blatant and rampant racism and homophobia there. I have family and friends there and nothing has changed-its gotten worse under Trump as he gives cover to these hate mongers and makes them feel like their views are legitimate opinions. The south is ignorant, intolerant and Christo-Fascist.
