Why is the law so lenient on pedophiles?

Pedophilia has a range of punishments. People can get 25 years merely for having kiddy porn, having never touched a child. So let's relax on that idea lol. Pedophiles are treated very very seriously everywhere you go.

Now, it comes down to a lot of things. Did they actually touch a child? If so, to what extent? What age? Is it like a 40 year old man molesting a 14 year old or is it a 22 year old who had sex with a 16-17 year old girlfriend in a relationship?

It's all uncomfortable to talk/think about, but those differences matter and should be treated differently. Another uncomfortable point. They don't choose to be attracted to children anymore than gay people choose to be attracted to the same sex.

It's just bad for society and the children for us to allow that to go on. Can't have them touching kids. That doesn't mean we should treat every case the same as if they were murderers.

These crimes have aggravating circumstances and specifics that make sentences what they are... If someone is on their third chance and they’re caught selling a lot of drugs, of course he or she will get more years than someone who isn’t on their third chance...

I have participated in a few stings and saw a case play out myself.. I think the sentences should be longer in general.. and same amount of time for women as men. @PonyCarGirl98 Not sure where you live but I live in california. Male sex offenders here get about 15 years in prison, and then are sometimes sent to a state hospital where they almost never get out. Female offenders get a year at most.
