Claustrophobia is triggered by being in a closed in space with the feeling of having no way out. Typically, that is characterized by a windowless space. If the officers wanted to be charitable, they could roll down the windows while still making sure the prisoner was properly secured. That should negate any chance of a genuine reaction regardless of what the prisoner is still trying to claim.

If the police believe every story they hear, they would never be able to arrest anyone. They hear this stuff on a daily basis.
I suppose the trick is to go by how the person acts otherwise. If the person is polite and cooperative it might make their story more believable. If the person acts like an asshole, resists arrest or just gives the cops a hard time, then the story is less believable. On top of that it will make the cops not give a shit.
Cops deal with this all the time. It's like the boy who cried wolf. After a while they become very skeptical. Besides, if the person is under arrest, they have to get them in a police car. There isn't much choice in the matter.
the officer may ask the one who is supposedly clauterphobic - if they drive - and if they say - yes - then the policeman can say - if your clausterphobic then you can not drive do to this so you are lying - ! the police officer can have the one who is this way , taken to jail in an ambulance just in case they have this problem and the people on the ambulance can help them on the way to jail ! thanks
The back of a police car is no different than any other car. So either the guy drives a convertible 7 days a week or he is just trying to make a scene so he can claim police brutality.

Well, it'd be nice if they could, but I doubt they'd be allowed to put them up front, even if it weren't asking for trouble. I suppose they might be able to just walk the arrestee to the station, but that's not likely, and they'd probably get in more trouble if the person tried to run. I don't think they have a lot of choice, and the system isn't really set up to be accommodating.
Too bad, into the cruiser you go.
I'm assuming this is in reference to the George Floyd body cam footage that got released? If so, it's worth mentioning he was already in a more confined vehicle before he was apprehended, so if I were the cop in that situation, I would think he was full of sh*t.I never thought that a trip to jail was supposed to be a glamorous or comfortable experience. You are a prisoner.
Unless there was some truly extraordinary reason why a ride in the back of a police cruiser was not feasible, then it shouldn't matter if the person doesn't like it.He's being arrested for a reason. If he didn't want to be in the backseat of a cop car, he shouldn't have done what he did.
In any case, it's no different than any other car, so unless he walks or bikes everywhere, he is full of shit.
Let him suck it up and let someone else work that out. As police, their job is to cuff him and take him. There is a procedure police are trained to follow.
I guess they could walk the suspect/arrest to the police station, but it would probably break the protocol.
The police could also roll down the police car windows.
It really depends on the behavior of the arrested. Each arrest is extremely circumstantial.Put him/her in the back of a box truck and take the scenic route back to the police station.
They should put them in the back fo the Police Car. They're under arrest. You don't get to pick and choose how you get arrested. They can get them in the back of the Police Car. They might have to chain their arms and legs to do it.
Is the person completely unable to ride in a car under any circumstances? That seems unlikely.
The officer should throw them in the back of the car like usual. Of course.
By putting them in the back of police cars. That's for someone else to work out at the station.
The guy was also saying, please don't shoot me.
Guess he was vindicated.Make them walk to jail. with chains on their ankles so they can't run away.
Sit them on the curb for a few minutes and let them calm down first.
He should put him in the back of the car. Being claustrophobic won't cause him any physical harm. Being arrested isn't meant to be pleasant or fun.
Confine him on the ground until he quits complaining.
guess they should tie a leash around him and hold on to it while they drive and let his lying ass walk to jail
