I think it’s because society has made the word skinny a compliment, like some of my friend would say “omg your so skinny” and they would take that as a compliment because I’m societies standard “skinny” is deemed attractive. Where as if you call someone’ fat that would be interpreted in a bad way because your disagreeing and or insulting their body. Like you wouldn’t go around complimenting people and saying “wow you look fat”. I think calling someone fat is honesty kind of rude.
Telling somebody to eat healthy and take care of their body is fine but telling somebody they are worthless or ugly or lazy or unpleasant is wrong - it’s not the visual cues but the delivery that matters
Speaking as a short fat guy I myself don't have any issue with the word. I used to be an athlete in HS and was in very good shape before I blew out my left knee. Now it can't support any extra weight and I can't exercise because of it. I've obviously gained a fair amount of weight over the years due to my lack of exercise.
It's not the sort of descriptor you need to use, is it? When you meet someone for the first time, who happens to be skinny, do you say "nice to meet you, how come you're so skinny?" Likewise, would you say "nice to meet you, how come you're so fat?"
I think we as society should start changing the negative and insulting meaning of fat and say it as a completely respectful word and without a degrading connotation
People are like that as soon as you call one Fat it's offensive but if they call you Skinny or String Bean they are supposed to swallow it which is not fair to someone
