So hear me out before judging me. The age of consent in the Philippines is 12 years old & in Bahrain it's 21 years old. So is pedophiles just a social concept? Because many Americans would be consider pedophiles in the eyes of Bahrain people right? While having sex with a 12 year old would not make you one if your in the Philippines 🤔 (I'm not trying to defend pedophiles i hate them i'm just curies if it's a sickness or a social norm that changes depending on where on earth you are)

I think most people would agree engaging in sexual activity with prepubescent or pubescent children is wrong. When I comes to post pubescent young adults the moral question becomes when are people emotionally mature enough to give informed consent to sexual activity. The age of consent would generally be set at an age considered most people of that age are mature enough. In UK it's 16, which seems about correct to me, given the other things we allow people at 16 to do in life (ride motorcylces, Work full time, join the army).
12 seems very young. Whilst there maybe some who have physically matured and may be emotionally mature they would be the outlier on the bell curve. The age of consent should protect the majority, not the minority.

Prepubescent i agree for sure, pubescent as after puberty and until 20 years old? No i don't agree that i should not be able to have sex with a 20 year old just because she is classified as a child. emotionally mature would mean that a down syndrome or autistic person can't have sex? Yeah i agree with 16 as age of consent but others would say 12 years old or 21 so where is one a pedophile (i'm talking about people after puberty) You said age of consent should be 16 and i agree, we would be pedophiles in other countries for saying that.

But a child is dependent on where you live, in some African tribes your an adult by 11 years old and in most western countries it's 18 or 20 so what is a child than and who decides that?

You like hyper focused on the word pedophile but it already has a definition that has nothing to do with the law. Before puberty = pedo. After puberty = not pedo but often still fucked up. The age of consent doesn't change the definition of that word. It only dictates whether or not you are committing a sex offense.

the biggest contradiction in the fillipino law is that whilst they deem kids as young as 12 to be adult enough to make that descission they also say that they can't access contraception or hiv testing until they are 16... its a joke and a very sad one at that but im sure it will change just as it had to in japan after years of international pressure concerning child porn in that country. anyway back to the main question, i think 16 should be the legal age everywhere based on my own experience where i and all the people around me at that age had the emotional tools to make such judgements ourselves

Yeah i fully agree with you mate! It's because of the church. Yeah at 16 your old enough to make that kind of choices, so do you believe a pedophile is a sick person (some of them are sick if they like kids under puberty so i'm talking beyond that) or does is it just depending on what country you are in? I do agree that 16 is a good age of consent but in Bahrain that would make one a pedophile.

technically a peadophile is a person who has sexual attraction to prepubescent children so maybe the fact they hit puberty has become the bench mark for the countries with ages of concent below 16... as for bahrain the same laws exist in many American states too and it could well be related to religion but only in that religious nations tend to be more conservative... problem is that while i think 16 should be the age everywhere, i also would defend the right of nation states to make their own laws according to their local requirements and this is where they would claim its their right i guess

The age of consent in the Philippines is 12. I'm 42. I'm a virgin. Let's say I went to the Philippines to seek a wife. The first question I'd ask if a 12 year old showed up is, What could she and I have in common.
It's not a question for which I'm sure I know the answer!

The age of consent should be the same age you are considered a legal adult. I think that age should be 16. But until that happens I'm going to only have sex with people who are legally adults.
