As an educator I took courses in linguistics and became good friends with a professor of linguistics. Ebonics is not just slang-it is what is known as a "Pidgen" Pidgen languages you can find in various places- Hawaii is an example. It occurs when a people are conquered/dominated by a group speaking another language. They HAVE to learn the language of the other group who now run their society but keep their own syntax (basically the order words appear-deals with possessive cases, verb tenses, noun-verb order in a sentence, etc.). Ebonics is African linguistic characteristics using English. Language is also a way to underline unity and exclude those not trusted. You often see this when an language group is around another they might switch to exclude that other group (especially if the other group is dominant). This is known as "code switching". Some African Americans feel that "speaking white" is giving into the conquerors. I note you are under 18-seek academic answers and it will cut through bias and fossilized thinking (from both the left and the right).
Are you saying this with the assumption that ALL black people use "ebonics" like that.
Because I sure in the hell don't. As long as I can remember, I've been having to hear it from other black people say "you talk too proper" or "you talk too white".
Don't you generalize us like that, especially when you're on the outside looking in.

So are you saying if a black person uses normal words and diction and doesn't speak like a ghetto thug, since no black person could possibly be capable of doing that normally, they must be "acting white"?
Would you also claim a white person who says something like "Y'all gonna meet up later backuda fillin' station to git yoself sumadat baba q for it all be gone?" must by definition be "acting black"?
Just curious how all the extensive research you've clearly done would lead you to classify white people who speak with even worse grammar and are even less articulate than any black people you've ever heard speak.
There is no such thing as "acting white". Even Obama publicly called "acting white" BS.
If there was such a thing as acting white, then whites in the US would act the same as whites in UK, or whites in Bulgaria, or whites in Argentina. People in those countries, or Thailand, or China, or Nigeria, or India, all have their social norms. Those norms evolved over centuries. People who live in those places can either adhere to the norms or not. If they don't (like me), they are usually at a disadvantage.
Whites in the US are not born knowing how to "act white". They have to learn social norms just like anyone else. They can choose to adhere to them or not. It's to their advantage if they do.
Cutting someone down for adhering to norms that will benefit them is not doing anyone any good.
Because they're very racist with the mass victim complex. It's not just talking It will say you're acting white. They say the same if you're on time and black if you're trying to get good grades and do good in school and you're black they say the same.
It's more about making sure no one does anything that could better their life because Then they will have to think about how maybe it's their own fault they are failures in life not just because they're a victim.
If everyone is a failure you don't feel as badd about being a failure yourself. Do you try to keep everyone down to your level so you never have to confront the idea that it's you. It's a victim complex
Using the term "them" is quite racist. Language is a product of culture and culture is relatively independent of skin color and much to do with where you grew up. There is no speaking black or speaking white. There is inner city slang heavily influenced by black people, but inner city white people speak the same lingo. There is however, a racist anti education movement that postulates that speaking proper English is somehow white/wrong. Your behavior isn't naturally dictated by your skin color, if you try to or if it is tried upon you this is racism. Other people perpetuate this when the discourage literacy, math, or other educational pursuits, this is seen in the black community. It is an insult and racist to equate proper speech with skin color. So of course people be mad.

One thing I have noticed is in all the places I've worked, including the deep south so the southern accent is a given, black folks who speak proper American English seemed to be more successful in what they do.
