And recently tons of rappers are being shot and killed... why? And why are so many rappers quick to rap about killing and selling drugs knowing that they could be murdered like the thousands of other rappers before them?

Rappers either glorify/represent actual gangs and those gangs either get pissed off at them or their enemy gets pissed off at them.

A lot of these rappers that have been getting killed recently are known notorious gang members that openly diss their enemies in their songs and brag about their gang activities. Unfortunately, being in a gang is very likely to get you killed. King Von wasn't an ordinary rapper. He was the grandson of David Barksdale, better known as King David, the founder of the Black Disciples (BDs), one of the most infamous and dangerous gangs in Chicago. He was a leading figure of the BDs, was based on O-Block, a Chicago neighborhood that has a lot of gang activity, and based on what people on the street say, he ordered hits on his ops. He also openly mocked his enemy gang members, the Gangster Disciples (GDs) getting killed many times. It was only a matter of time before someone killed him and when it happened, I wasn't surprised in the slightest. The vast majority of rappers are safe. Nearly every rapper I've grown up listening to is still alive. Being a rapper only becomes dangerous when you attempt to do it as a gang member or big-time criminal. Normally, gang members tend to stay low key on the street, but as a rapper, that becomes difficult, as you put yourself out there. You make it easier for your opposition to catch you at a show or when you least expect it. The age of more advanced technology and social media makes it even more easier for enemy gang members to track their ops as well. Rappers have tour schedules and enemy gang members can easily track them by following it. As long as rappers stay out of gangs or getting involved in activities likely to get them killed such as dealing drugs, then they greatly increase their chances of staying alive in their career.

Dude, rappers have been killing each other for forever. Rap music has a lot of themes about crime, violence, and money. When you project an image of violence, acting hard, and flashing money then you’re inevitable going to piss people off. Either you end up starting beef with someone else, or you flash too much money and someone ends up robbing you.

because it's based upon the energy of "pride", and that will always get many people killed. as well money and control, wouldn't shock me if related to trafficking. I was a kid when saw this form of expression emerge in school. It isn't the rap, it's the garbage sub culture, praising the gang lifestyle (power), lack of parents, discipline, values propagated through the culture. Singing about it just makes a few rich.

Curious how this compares to number of opera singers gunned down on a weekly basis? Country and Western singers... they are just as armed as anyone else? Heck, musicians used to argue against each other in their songs and make big $ doing that.

bottom line, inner city African American slum culture is and has for a very long time, been total Sh#t. I couldn't wait to get away from it as a kid and I stay as far away as I can. It is hopeless and useless garbage. But it continues to propagate as it's what some elements know.

I understand that Black murder rates are higher compared to other races, but what you posted still doesn't mean that all or most Black people are killers. For example, last year, according to the FBI crime statistics, a total of 16,245 murders were committed that were known to law enforcement. Of those murders, Black people are known to have committed 6,425 murders, which is 39% of all known murders that year. However, according to the Census, the Black population in 2019 in was 47 million. When factoring in the total number of murders committed by Blacks in 2019 with the Black population, Blacks only.01% of Black people committed murder that year, which is much less than 1%. Sure, while Black people might have a higher murder rate compared to other races, only a very small portion of the Black population commits murder. Thus, yes, saying that a number of Black rappers kill each other because "they're Black and that's what Blacks do" is racist and foolish when you realize it only represents such a tiny number. The vast majority of Black rappers are alive and well and the vast majority of Black people aren't killers. I feel that a less racist (and factual) answer would have been to say that practically all the recent rappers killed this year were big time gang members and that gang members are simply more likely to be killed than non-gang members regardless of their race, especially if they're putting themselves out there for the public (and their enemies) to see them.

@Tiffany_Taylor_Made I never claimed that all blacks are murders. My point was this... the fact that rappers are killing each other is because they are black. There has never been another genre of music where there was so much violence portrayed in the music and irl amongst the artists, and it would never have happened if the majority of the rappers weren't black.

Look, I know it's a sensitive subject but I know I speak for the majority of non-black Americans when I say America has grown weary of making excuses and taking the blame for the issues in the black community when the truth of the matter is it's a black culture problem and no one can fix it but blacks themselves, and that will never happen as long as we are afraid to talk about the real problems and feel the need to tiptoe around the issues.

I think it's great you asked this question because it is a step in the right direction toward acknowledging and addressing the real problems in black America. I love all my fellow Americans, regardless of the color of their skin, but we need to be able to talk about our problems together without being so afraid of offending someone that we just keep our mouths shut.

Those particular rappers kill each other because they're also gang members and gang members usually kill each other. This is true because gang members tend to become rappers. They don't become K-Pop stars. Most people that listen to rap usually live in gang neighborhoods. Sometimes, that person listening might get caught up in the lifestyle, join the gang, and become a rapper, but their enemies still follow them. Rap is practically the only music genre with subgenres that talk about the streets. Therefore, the music naturally appeals to people that are in the streets. Thus, you can't say they're killing each other because they're Black when the vast majority of Black rappers are still alive, collaborating, and helping each other get paid. The very small portion of rappers are killing each other because they were troublemakers on the streets and that trouble followed them to their career. It's that simple. The majority of us aren't killers. We don't go around killing each other because we're Black. It just so happens that a small portion of us unfortunately gets involved in unfortunate lifestyles that may result in our deaths. It doesn't represent all or most of us. This can be said about any group, even if the rates might be higher compared to others. Thus, yes, the way that you answered that question was racist. It's also not a "Black culture" problem. Our culture isn't based on killing people. It's simply because some people living through unfortunate circumstances are more likely commit crime. That's true worldwide in any group or nation. Thus, I would say certain areas have a gang violence problem we need to work together and solve, but don't ever say we have a "Black problem" because that.01% that I posted earlier proves that false.

I haven't "denied" anything. I'm simply speaking and accepting the facts. The vast majority of Black people are not killers. Higher crime rates compared to others doesn't automatically equate to high numbers of crime. By saying that it's not a "Black culture problem" is not being in denial. Black culture does not involve killing people, which is a fact. Murder is simply an aspect of human nature, regardless of race because we can't expect everyone in the world to get along. Every race has individuals that do harm to others, but this doesn't mean that people develop cultures around harm. It's within human nature for us to be compassionate towards each other. That's not denial; that's fact. Saying that we have a gang problem in certain areas is not "denial," but rather fact as well. According to the FBI and Department of Justice crime trends, the majority (though not all) of murders committed in America are related to gang and drug activity. Blacks are not the only group in gangs, nor are Blacks the only ones that commit murder. The best and most practical way to make changes is to identify the problem, uncover the facts that cause the problem, and solve the problem. Saying that "they're Black and that's what Blacks do" doesn't solve anything. It's just a false statement that would only create more controversy. Based on the direct factual crime trends, the best way to make changes is to go after the gang and drug problem to reduce murder rates. This isn't "denial." These are undeniable facts.
