Do girls like poems?

when I got my first girlfriend I started writing romantic poems for her birthday, our anniversary, for Valentine's day. sometimes even for no reason.it came naturally. she said she liked my poems. but afterward she left me for some 16 year old guy/kid and she told me that she doesn't like poems and told me that that was one of the reasons she fell out of love with me. I know it is a lame excuse for breaking up with me but it got me thinking. do girls like it when/if guys write them poems?

i know it would be awkward and a turn off if a guy you are just dating writes you a poem, but I am asking in the context of a steady long term relationship.

I'm sorry for your upset but you've got to realise... poems are weapons to be used on girls you're certain about, girls you know like you, girls you can 'trap' with your rhymes!

The amount of girls I've written poems for?... lost count. They were girls that liked me, girls that just needed that little nudge into 'the danger zone', the zone filled with a disease they thought was love, the zone were they were mine ;)

It's quite ironic how you cry and moan ;),

And it's quite upsetting... for you that is,

That when I find my new 'queen', you'll be alone!

i wrote my gf/s poems all the time, in fact I've written about 110 poems about all the past gf's.

and they all dumped me. and I didn't do anything to make them leave me... lol

so yeah. they love them... then they leave you when they get bored of them

They may not like it if you fill it with you saying you love then when it's obvious the relationship is too new for that. I always leave the love word out and just do value stuff or even funny stuff.

well...personally I think that if the poem isn't very good (which of course is hard to judge when it's poetry, really a personal thing), it's just kind of awkward. its like, "oh thanks for that I'm glad you can rhyme flower with power and shower, that's really..uhh...nice". OK so stupid example but you know what I mean? It's like unless you have a really neat original idea, it's best to just write a note or something. make sense? I don't know..one of those makes sense in your head things maybe.

i mean, same thing if I like the guy. if it was my boyfriend my first instinct would be to make fun of him because I'd do that and feel bad and apologize and tell him I liked it. but really, I don't care who it is, if your writing skills aren't all that great and unoriginal, I just think its awkward. but it's just my opinion, maybe I'm the only girl who thinks that way.

yeah I guess I should have said that, I would absolutely think it would be really sweet. it would make me laugh, which is probably not exactly what the guy wanted the reaction to be, but I would still think it was really sweet.
