What does it mean when someone steals your thunder?
: to prevent someone from having success or getting attention, praise, etc., by doing or saying whatever that person was planning to do or say I didn't mean to steal your thunder, but I just had to tellyour mom about yourpromotion.

What does the idiom steal the glory mean?
steal somebody's glory (=dosomething that makes you more admired than someone else who is doing something similar) Collins is wonderful, but Shaw steals all the glorywith his magnificent performance.

I've had "one-uppers" but I don't think of them as thieves. They earned it. Take a scenario where I do something sorta impressive, and everyone is applauding. Then someone is like, "Hold my beer" and steps in and beats me. I don't mind that. I applaud them because that's awesome.

But there is another type who genuinely does "steal" the attention/glory, and those are the types that interrupt someone else in the middle. And they usually suck, like someone who interrupts you when everyone is listening to you but they interrupt with something that no one is interested in... like they're just insecure because they aren't the center of attention. I hate those and generally most people do too.

I’ve had it happen in my job before and the guy had an enormous ego and felt he needed to take credit for my success with clients. Had to bite my tongue because of his seniority in the company.

Its normally people who dont have much going on in life so life through some one elses life... its a bit like Munchausen via proxy

I think it have happened. But one can't complain when someone steals their thunder/glory due to their own inaction.

What's irritating is putting someone else down purposefully to get attention

Always but it's cool if you have to cheat or lie or stretch a story just to make yourself look good you get found out sooner or later

In a high-performance company, it's done quite often. There are fakers that may or may not have been in the military that wear insignias they didn't earn while in. Stolen valor is what it's called.
