Who won October's war in 1973?

I am from Egypt and i know that in 1973 we beat israel and got sinai back bu force. but for some reason there are some brainwashed people that say that israel won but they gave sinai back out of their good heart. I looked at every source on the internet and every youtube video and all i see is the egyptians soliders kicking the israelians asses and getting them out with their pyjamas. so what did you learn in school? who did you teachers told you that they won?

From what I was taught, most history classes never really said much about things past the 80s. From what I understand Israel won the 6 day war against I think 6 Arab nations.

Egypt offered to recognize Israel and said it wouldn't attack them if they got there land back.

Israel knowing they likely wouldn't be able to surprise/ pull off the same tactic again compunded with future opponents being better organized decided it was better to get rid of a potential future enemy.

Basically they would rather fight 5 nations than 6. I believe they also made a similar deal with Jordan to the north.

Egypt had early successes in that war but Israel slowly pushed back and had Egyptian forces on their heels when the ceasefire was negotiated. At best, it was a stalemate. Sinai was not taken back by force. It was returned by peace agreement in 1979.

Egypt won the first couple weeks, then Israel pushed into the heartland of Egypt. Israel simply didn’t lose that war if you look at casualties and the geographical territory that either occupied at the end. And Sinai was given back in peace years after.

Sinai was literally returned to Egypt 6 years after that war and initiated by Sadat going to the Knesset and asking for peace.

As for why Israel agreed to that, because they had no reason to be at war with Egypt if they can have peace. It was a waste of resources for a piece of land with little value

I don’t know if you call it a war or not? It lasted 6 days. if my memory is right? I was a
senior. Wasn’t Egypt with a couple other countries as well? Israel has always been kind of kicked around. Then blamed if they retaliate!

Exactly. I don’t think you can give away your own land and claim victory. Side note: Egypt has, at least, kept their promise to not attack Israel after they took back the Sinai peninsula
