No drugs means no drugs. Even if Marijuana doesn't give any competition advances, it is still considered a drug and the sport as well as the athlete do have a role model function.
So yes, I think it's correct.
Yes. Marijuana is a drug. Drug abuse does not enhance your skills or promote good judgement, but instead warps the mind and will eventually destroy the body. Sport---and life---should be kept free of drugs.

If the rules said you can’t have custard, and you did, you are breaking the rules.
it’s not a pick and mix with the rules, everyone know them, everyone knows random checks are done.
there is a load of stuff in the list that potentially should not be there, however the committee say what goes.
She knew the rules, she decided to break them, she needs to sit in the corner.
I was in Air Force ROTC in college. If I got caught smoking weed or any other illegal drug I would automatically get kicked out of the program. So I did not smoke pot. I was as simple as that.
A person should not be suspended unless the substance is either something that can enhance their performance (marijuana cannot do this) or is medically dangerous (marijuana is not more so than tobacco or alcohol and less so than either when taken in typical quantities.
don't see why so unless there is recent studies that weed is a performance enhancer in anyway that would of made it for the purposes of cheating than just recreational. I guess beer, sugar, coffee, cocoa, tabbaco is all banned too? since these are all drugs in there own right?
Frankly, she should go to the Olympics, but she violated the rules and alternates were already chosen. This is terrible and she should be given a waiver, but giving her a waiver means that someone else would suddenly be forced to not go to the Olympics - someone who DID follow the rules. So, it's a shame, but what is done is done.
These things happen. Pete Rose should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame too.
Yes. It's drugs. You shouldn't be on any kind of drugs at all if you're an athlete. Also, it's disrespectful and disgusting. I don't feel sorry for her.
@MCheetah well said; inconvenient truth.
If you know you are training for the once every four year Olympics that is occurring in a month from the time of your qualifying race, maybe don't use marijuana until after the Olympics.
Just in case the drug testers decide to check you for banned substances
Yeah, I would personally suspend her, for some marijuana.
Joking aside, rules are rules - she broke them. You can't get upset about well established rules just because you broke them.
She broke the rules. She gets suspended. That's how this works. Someone can attempt to have the rules changed for the future, but the fact is she broke them while those rules were in effect.
She should not be suspended for it. It was legal in the state she was in, and it is not a performance enhancing drug.
For the record, state law is completely irrelevant here. At these events, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) formulates rules concerning banned substances. Many of these are legal for regular people, but not allowed under the WADA rules for sporters.
Virtually all countries have agreed to be subjected to the rules of the WADA and enforce these. This means that as long as WADA declares marijuana as illegal, state or federal law in the USA is not relevant. The relevant authorities in the USA have agreed to the WADA rules.
Also, the WADA argues that it definitely can be performance enhancing, under various conditions
Yeah, she knew the rules and broke them.. That's on her..
The thing is, the rules are what they are, and she was aware of them.
And whose responsibility was that? Her own. Read the fine print before you sign up for something; it's basic common sense.
It is a banned drug in the Olympics. She just made a bad choice to smoke. I feel sorry for her, but until the rules change it is illegal.
Absolutely!
Sorry for her loss but this is the Olympics. World class competition.
Those are the rules.
Deal with it.
Although it has no performance enhancing qualities rules are rules! Id like to see a version of the Olympics where all contestants are on drugs... At least it'd be fun to watch!
Nope, marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug, so the suspension was ridiculous.
No, let her compete normally. If she wants to smoke weed in her own time, she can and it's nobody's business but her own.
The rules are the rules but as rules go I don't understand that particular one. Pot is not a performance enhancing drug.
I think that she handled the situation in a respectable manner and I have high regard for her as a result
If it's on the banned drug list then she should be suspended.
Yes, she knew the rules and broke them. But I find it funny how they can suspend her, but yet allow trannies to compete in the Olympics. That just ruins it for me.
I am not some stupid anti weed conservative so I will say she should not be suspended
Yeah
Think of it as a PED. She used it, to enhance her running. She cheated, basically
I don't know. Does marijuana enhance your abilities in action
Yes. Rules are rules, its an unfortunate situation
No, I think it's ridiculous.
Yes, she knew the rules and broke them.
Yes she broke the rules
No. It was marijuana. Come on...
she should go to jail
Yeah mj tests are unconstitutional anyway.
