Derek Chauvin was just sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for murdering George Floyd - what do you think - too much time, just right, or not enough?

This is going to be a tough response to read but bear with me, I'm looking at all sides of this.

I believe anybody holding a public office that should violate the nature of there duty should hold some sort of punishment. A police officers nature is to serve and protect and bring safety to the community. We have seen case after case of violence revolving around unnecessary cruel and unusual punishment, that violates not only the principality of having a police officer, but it violates his oath of public duty. And it has to do with taking the life of an innocent, which should be a capitol punishment. As somebody who is supposed to be knowledgeable about protecting the law, Floyd's natural god given rights to security and life was violated.


At the same time the officer is a father, and he probably will die behind bars because he is a cop, and his kids will no longer have the opportunity to see him again.

At the same time it's a balance because Floyd's kids won't see him ever again.

However I don't believe any child should be forced to grow up without their father.

So in a sense a kid was robbed of knowing what it means to have a father.


I believe justice for Floyd and his family was served...

But what of the justice for the Officers family?

His kids are going to go to school and be bullied everyday, because the parents of the other kids would have told their kids nasty things about them and their family, because the world we live in is cruel. And THOSE kids would be subject to crime and violence, because that's how that is bred in America.


So will the Self-righteous and self entitled Americans leave the situation in peace afterwards? Or will this situation live on and breed more racial tension in our communities? When will enough be enough?

We are in the next age of the social rights movement, and it's only uglier than before.

I guess time will tell.

Neither you or I know that for sure. But I know from losing a good father before and being placed in a situation with one that wasn't so good. There's things I don't get to experience in childhood, bonds other kids had with their families that I couldn't share. Kids like that patch those holes with the wrong things, drugs alcohol, gangs and violence. They build their own definition of what a father is supposed to be, through what they lack in life. Whether that's security, love, or attention and affection. These are detrimental to the development of a child with proper psychological health. They may gain their own PTSD from whoever is next in their home, through whatever they deal with between them and their peers. And they may never figure that out on there own. So when speaking on somebody else's parenting be mindful you speak of their kids as well. Because you didn't know Floyd. But on the trial Floyd's wife mentioned they ask about Floyd every day. Their mother probably didn't tell them about him being killed by a cop because she didn't want them to fear police in the future, which a brave mistake. But when those kids find out, they will be without a father, and full of dangerous, self destructive rage, because they didn't cope.

I don't understand it. I perceived the whole thing as a case of (possibly extreme) police negligence rather than outright brutality. To my understanding, Floyd was an ex-convict, quite high at the time of his arrest, and shouted that he couldn't breathe while even inside the police car. I've also seen enough police bodycam footage to have witnessed cases of criminals pulling such stunts in ways that significantly ended up endangering the police officers' lives by resisting arrest. The case as I perceive raises questions about the precise amount of force police officers should use at the time of arrest, but I don't see it as a homicide case unless I'm missing something very crucial.

Well considering that the murder charge was far-fetched at best and there's no way he doesn't go for an appeal... A life sentence or death penalty would've been a grievous injustice and set a really bad precedent. I really think 22.5 years is pretty extreme given the actual facts of the case, but because they did go with murder rather than a lesser charge, that's pretty typical.

He'll more than likely be out of prison after a court appeal in 2-4 years or less and under WITSEC unless he gets killed in prison, or the feds intervene and pull some shenanigans to block it. All are plausible scenarios.
