Regardless what you think of him as a person, he was a police officer doing his job to serve the community and he arrested Floyd based on actual police procedure they taught at the station; to put the knee down on the neck (which they then tried to hide and sweep under the rug).
George Floyd was a career criminal who died of a fentanyl overdose, and the media tried to lie and say that not only was Chauvin responsible for his death, but that he was RACIST and MURDERED him! Which is so disgusting. Are people really THAT idiotic to think that in 2021, you can get away with intentionally killing a black man, WHILE BEING RECORDED? Both by eye-witnesses and vest cams.
Now I don't like Derek Chauvin and I'm not trying to take political sides in this whole ordeal, but it was clear he was f*cked over, majorly by this. Even IF George Floyd accidentally got killed by Chauvin, there has never been this much pointless violence and death over a convicted felon accidentally being "killed" by police. Even Treyvon Martin didn't have this much fake anger and controversy over it, and his actual KILLER got away with it! (Yes, I'm aware of the Stand Your Ground laws.)
Yet, a thug and criminal like George Floyd gets turned into a political martyr and BLM and politicians are threatening juries and judges lives if they don't get the BS trial results they want to satiate their blood lust. That was a DARK moment in America, that day. It was pure injustice. You could argue Chauvin get convicted with the lesser manslaughter charge, but MURDER? Are you serious? People really are absolutely f*cking DUMB to actually believe this. Especially with goddamn video footage.
Imagine being a cop, serving your community and protecting people, only for a woke mob of retards to accuse you of murdering a career criminal who OD's on his way to the police station, and you get convicted of f*cking MURDER for it! Like I said, I don't even like Chauvin or do I think he was probably the nicest guy out there, but that is beyond messed up. Everyone making this about race, and BLM BS and everything else but what actually happened: A career criminal OD'ed, and people used him as a political martyr to excuse their own sad, pathetic, angry lives.
Chauvin was a sacrificial lamb for mob justice. Well, more like sacrificial jackass. But still. He should've have gotten anything more than manslaughter charges, considering murder is premediated and involves actual malicious intent. George Floyd wasn't important enough to "murder."
people get hung up on the whys. That is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is a civil servant who was in a place of authority abused his power and got a civilian killed. girlfriend was an asshole, no doubts about it. But when an officer takes someone into custody they also take responsibility for the care of that person. There is a slippery slope that people of the citizenry should take great concern with and that is our own personal safety and that of our loved ones and communities. If people of authority are allowed to abuse their power unchecked they can and will use it to abuse us all. Then you really will see fascism in action, I can promise you that.
He needed to be made an example of and remind law enforcement that times are changing and soon they won't be the untouchables they were in days gone by. Let this extend to judges, politicians, and military personnel. I love the good cops, the good soldiers, the good judges, who do things right. Its the bad apples that make the concern of the citizenry grow. Even if you dont like girlfriend if a man is abused while cuffed and refused medical care what can that say for our fathers? our brothers? our friends? our neighbors? That is why he needs harsh punishment.
I always think it’s funny how people will condemn an action but at the same time will make threats to harm someone. It’s not for me to say whether he’s being treated fairly. I feel that what happened wasn’t racially motivated, however I do feel that the actions that ensued were born from a culture of racial inequality. Of course I’m not saying he’s not responsible for his actions, but what I am saying is that the culture needs to change to be more inclusive.
At one time police officers were equipped with Maglite flashlights. However after it was realized that these flashlights were being used as weapons the police culture changed. Maglites are no longer a part of the standard issue uniform and it’s no longer used as a weapon. The same should be done with police procedures. If we remove the cultural differences from and specific ways of detainment from the resources taught to officers then they can no longer be used to harm.
@bgreek Guess what dumbsh! t, not all speech is protected under the first amendment. Ever hear about this thing called slander? Sure you could say whatever you want, but be ready to lose your case in court if it’s not true.
That’s right not everything that you say is protected speech. Like making threats that’s could result in bodily harm. They actually call that a crime.
So before you make a simpleton solution to a complex problem educate yourself. After all if you don’t fill your head with knowledge and only fill it with shit, then shit is the only thing that will come out.
Eh, I’m not too informed on this guy. I know what he did, but seems to also have a extensive past full of similar situations as well. I don’t like the guy. He seems a bit off.
There a lot of factors that could have/did play into George Floyd’s death, and I think he was one of them, but not 100% the cause.
I don’t care about how he has been treated because, again, he seems to have an extensive past full of similar situations, and I think regardless of Floyd’s death, he should have been terminated from working as a police officer after the first incident. So, I’m not surprised that he did this, and I’m neutral about how he’s been treated.

unfair.
was doing his job, most would say he did it wrong, but he had reasons for holding girlfriend down... his training, fear of drug addict. Why did he hold him down so long? don't know. Others had died the same way, this was trained behavior. He would have seen videos of officers being overcome by a criminals and get into fights for their lives, and so would err on the side of protecting himself from a large man who was previously resisting and clearly "odd". That's his viewpoint as I see it. The other side is, the guy was pleading for his life, couldn't breathe (that's one reason he was resisting)... DC had some responsibility to handle it better. Can't let officers crush people and say "oh well".
I'd say the same about the other people I've seen killed the same way as girlfriend. Police have responsibility to ensure the life under their control does not suffocate.
It's a case of mob justice. Sadly, I know of nothing that has been fixed...
Well, with the precedent set by the release of Mohammed Noor, he might see a reduced sentence.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/21/us/mohamed-noor-resentencing/index.html

The former Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot a woman while responding to her 911 call in 2017 was resentenced Thursday to 4 years and 9 months in prison after Minnesota's highest court threw out his third-degree murder conviction last month.
I don't think what he did is all that different than what cops normally do, the knee on the neck is a lot more common than people realize and it is even a part of the training on how to be a cop.
If you actually payed attention to the court case, the department even admitted that Chauvin used less force than he was permitted to use, which I think he could have tazed Floyd and the department would have been fine with that.
Because of that, I am more convinced that the fact that the drugs he tool killed him. I heard that he instantly took several times the quantity needed to kill himself with before the encounter. If there was any intention to kill Floyd himself, he failed in my opinion.
@msc545 apparently, Floyd's autopsy said that the drugs killed him.
One of the things that can happen when the body is deprived of oxygen is cardiac arrest. The defense argued he had a heart attack because of a drug overdose. Well what do you think is more likely a drug overdose when there was no sign of recent drug use (only the word of the cops on scene all in jail currently) or the clearly visible knee suffocating a man.
I choose to believe the simple answer
@msc545 ok maybe I am wrong.
Derek Chauvin did nothing wrong.
He was subjected to a Communist/Democrate political show trial that was interested in neither law nor justice.
Every cop in every Democrat city should resign and move to a Republican area.
Let the Democrat cities burn.
I do feel he was a sacrificial lamb. I mean I accept the courts decision. But I think Chauvin paid the price for all the cases we've see played out in the media over the past couple years. He also didn't come off as remorseful and I don't think that helped him. It made it easy to vilify him
You know what I'd like to hear? I'd like to hear what he has to say. I'd like to know how he feels about the death of George Floyd. I'd like to know if he feels bad for his death. Because I don't think he did it on purpose I think he was negligent. Maybe I'm totally wrong. But I guess I just have a hard time reconciling someone being a cop for any length of time and lacking a reverence for human life.
Iike I say maybe I'm wrong maybe he is a bad human being. I guess I just like to think better of the men and women who are charged with the task of serving and protecting us.
What upsetting to me is not his treatment but the lies and misrepresentation of Floyed! Floyed was a drug abuser and a criminal just to name a few. He died in the act of a crime and refusing to follow orders from a police officer! He would be very much alive and well if he simply followed orders! This in no way makes Chauvin innocent.
He was thrown under the bus to protect the system that trained and employed him to do exactly what he did. They successfully redirected everyone’s anger and hatred at a symptom of the problem and away from themselves.
Floyd needed to die and Chauvin needed to go down for it so that old joey can capitalize on the uproar and win elections.
The reality is both these days guys are victims of a much larger and convoluted crime.
There were simply one too many coincidences involved in the whole case, it stinks.
Jury intimidation is jury intimidation at the end of the day. I don’t care if he went to the hood and mowed down 17 Black kids at a preschool. Dude should walk for that and that alone.
There is zero evidence that he took his actions because of some personal prejudice against black people.
The B****** did the crime, now let him Rot in time.
Despicable liberal politicians threw him under a bus for political reasons. It wasn't justice. But I'm glad he's getting a plea bargain deal.
It’s not a good deal. The federal charge will keep him in prison longer. He hast to do 85% of 25 years. With the state one he had to do 2/3 of 22 1/2.
George Floyd is absolute scum and deserved what he got and more. People raise him up like some kind of hero but he was just a thug, woman abuser, and druggy.
Too easy.
When you consider what that shitty bent cop lead to. You cannot deny America was fucked as much by the actions of Derek Chauvin, as it was Trump.
Both pissed off the wrong people and caused an irreparable divide.
I thought police officers were trained in hand to hand fighting
I guess not, but this is a case for taking guns away from the police
Before the average Joe surrenders their guns
I'll believe it, when i see it
As fair as it could be under the circumstances getting a truly impartial jury was always going to be impossible
Chauvin should have been convicted of something.
Like being an asshole.
However, George Floyd was the cause of his own death.
If Floyd died of cardiac arrest from drugs and panic vs asphyxiation from the knee Chauvin should be a free man. Unfortunately there was unprecedented media coverage and protests which no doubt skewed justice
I personally dont know whether Floyd died from asphyxiation (lack of oxygen) if that is the case than murder is justified you can't just choke people to death if you are a cop
george floyd said i can't breathe before anyone knelt on his neck... so his actions couldn't have caused george's death
chauvin was totally innocent
Life in Prison, he did murder the guy. The guy he murdered was no hero, but I didn't see him resisting. If he was fighting and died , then I would have said no time.

**looks at clock** Happy Hump Day Hour...
It is bad that he was convicted of killing a guy who ODed on Fentanyl.
He deserved a longer sentence if not the death penalty
We needed to send a message to all police officers and this was not it
he's a hero, we needs cops to take out more felons, of all races including white
All things considered, he got a fair trial and a lot of consideration given what he did.
I think there was as much hatred involved in how Chauvin has been treated as he was accused of.
How has he been treated differently than other convicts?
He was a victim more than George Floyd was.
He didn't do anything wrong!
He was treated fairly
I hope he enjoys his prison cell. Piece of shit.
And George Floyd is now rotting in hell for being a piece of shit.
I hope his drug dealers are there with him to keep him as stoned as he on the day he died.
@BillyBalls I don't give a shit about your disingenuous whataboutism. The topic here is what the cop did. You're the type of person who thinks it's totally fine for cops to brutally murder someone, as long as that someone is a criminal or a drug addict or whatever. IT DOES NOT MATTER what type of person George Floyd was, NOTHING excuses a cop from murdering someone. You fucking psychopath fascist piece of shit. Go fuck yourself.
Fair. The man is a evil idiot.
Fuck em
He did nothong wrong
Who?
