Does anybody else here feel sympathy for Derek Chauvin? What will he be charged of? Regardless of what happens there will be riots. Right?

So legally Derek Chauvin cannot be sentenced to life imprisonment or death. Those charges are only suitable for murder in the first degree.

So I get a hunch that because of this factor, there will be riots no matter what. Because a lot of the BLM people probably will accept nothing less than that. Even though legally a conviction of that nature isn’t possible.

But I still feel really bad for the guy.

He made a big mistake and now it is likely to bite him in the ass for a very long time.

He didn’t play along to the cameras. He made himself appear to be a bad guy.

He was overconfident in his training and grossly negligent to the situation at hand.

As the article here explains, the trial isn’t about whether he intended to kill Floyd, but rather whether his actions played a role in Floyd’s eventual death. Since that issue had already been decided.

He was just an ordinary man who dedicated his life to serving others. He spent years on the force serving his community without issue and then made one wrong decision that turned society against him.

If I had all the money in the world I would bail him out of jail to help him escape the horrific fate that awaits him.

Otherwise in terms of what he will be charged of it appears likely that the second degree manslaughter charge will take effect.

As I said before it is my belief that he was grossly negligent to the situation at hand. And going with the court’s assertion that he did not INTEND Floyd’s murder, this is the fitting charge.

However I am a Christian who believes in forgiveness. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that he feels sorry for his actions.

However second degree unintentional murder likely won’t be charged because the Prosecution will have a tough time proving that “beyond a reasonable doubt Chauvin caused Floyd's death”.

There will be riots no matter what. Because the mob won’t be satisfied

Everything will be peaceful. Because everybody will be civil and accept the outcome.

Nobody really knows what Floyd’s true cause of death was because there were conflicting sources. Different medical examiners came to different conclusions. However the one hired by Floyd’s family likely had a potential bias because the Hennepin county medical examiner said there was no asphyxiation.

It remains to be seen if Mr. Chauvin is deserving of sympathy. To some degree, for sure, he is not getting a trial in the best of circumstances. However, in one sense, that is secondary. The irony being that even if Officer Chauvin gets the chair - figuratively speaking - there is apt to be violence, i. e. "peaceful protests." The point of this trial being superficially about the rendering of justice, but in fact it is viewed by no small segment of the population as a test of power and vengeance.

For all the nattering about justice and due process, the BLM movement is really only about power. It seeks not justice but carries a chip on its shoulder for grievances real and imagined. Thus it is apt to view the conviction of Officer Chauvin not as vindication and justice, but a demonstration of its rising power.

This sending BLM and related protesters in the streets. Nominally to celebrate but to invariably claim that which they deem as their just due in wealth and influence denied. This, invariably, leading to protests which will turn violent.

The conviction of the officer not being an assertion of justice, but a signal to BLM believers that their hour has come and it is time to take what they believe is rightfully theirs and has been denied to them. Rioting and violence to follow.

Thus the irony, the guilt or innocence of Officer Chauvin is not really material. It is merely the backdrop against which those who hew to the BLM agenda will play out their self-pity and self-aggrandizement. The price to be paid by those home owners and shop owners - many of them, themselves, minorities - who get caught in the blowback.

It is axiomatic that you cannot make an omelet without breaking some eggs. The BLM people will merely shrug at the collateral damage their protests cause. They, after all, are pursuing a higher good. Just ask them.

Put it all together, and the irony is that there will very likely be violence regardless of whatever verdict either way is rendered upon Officer Chauvin. Either the violence of those who believe justice has been denied them, or the violence of those who believe their hour has come and it is time to take what they believe is rightfully theirs.

It is never that simple. They were not strong candidates, I agree.

However, as a state, even now, Georgia leans GOP and - historically - turnout by the party that just lost a presidential election ought be up as there is a sense on the losing side of anger while the winning side tends to complacency.

Yet, when the losing party splits - and rare it is that the President splits his own party by choice - the chances of them winning any subsequent elections drops. The point being that having a party leadership that spoke with one voice would have helped to generate enthusiasm.

Instead, the GOP base tuned out. Part of it sick of Trump. The other part thinking that all the rest of the party was just part of "the Swamp" and so they sat home too. Net result - a win for the Democrats.

Plus I point out again that Mr. Trump had no definitive policies but offered a mishmash of ideas from both sides. Sometimes enthusing the GOP part base, other times splitting it.

You can only do that so many times before you split your party - our parties being coalitions of various and sometimes fractious interests in any case - and lose elections.

I don't think Chauvin did that badly. He was trying to control an unruly career criminal that he mistook having a heart attack while holding him down to control him.

I can understand the anger and it does look bad, but this procedure was approved by his department, and no one questioned it until it went viral.

The real scumbag is the Police Chief. He threw his own officer under the bus. He should have said that what Chauvin was approved but handled the best way he could under the circumstances. It was aggressive, but Floyd was an agreessive man who has a rap sheet and serious priors.

People don't understand what it's like to deal with the stresses of a. cop. They deal with some serious low-lives during their entire career. It's easy to get a little heavy handed just dealing with the same bad behavior of these criminals.

And that's what makes this issue eggregious. Had Floyd upset people on a more emotional level, they would embrace more torture. By making the scumbag a saint, anything done to Floyd would be horrible. It's all emotions and fee-fee's.

Honestly, I think Chauvin deserves punishment for what he did. He should have known that he was overstepping his boundaries and capabilities as a police officer. I mean, who kneels on someone's neck like that? He was treating Floyd as an animal, and had no regard for his life.

Back when this happened, there were a few deep-dive articles about how the two apparently knew each other and were not exactly on the best of terms. If this was true, then there definitely was a reason for Chauvin to inflict pain and death to Floyd.

We may never really know whether drugs really did play a role in his death, but I strongly feel that drugs may not have really played a significant role. I think Chauvin overreacted in the heat of the moment and pinned his neck down with his full weight because he was intimidated by Floyd's tall stature. Floyd (if I'm not mistaken) had already had previous encounters with police and was deathly scared as the bodycam showed. He begged them to not kill him, but his wish was thrown away later.

I do think it's possible that Floyd may not have even known that the $20 he handed to the store clerk was fake. Not a lot of people inspect $20 bills for authenticity, at least where I live. Here, we inspect $50s and $100s, never $20s. Floyd did not deserve to die that day for paying with a counterfeit bill.

I am anxious to hear the outcome of the trial, however if Chauvin is let go without punishment, I do not doubt for even a second that there will be major uprisings throughout the nation, possibly the whole world.

Yeah, that came out a while ago. I honestly don’t know enough behind the science to know which one is accurate. Maybe a possibility both are.

All I know is this. From what I remember Floyd was requesting medical help. I can’t think of a reason not to give it to him. You always roll medics when a suspect is requesting medical attention.

Also, why didn’t they just put him in the squad car? Seems like that would have been safer for both suspect and officer than having to hold him down on the road next to the vehicle.

I think it’s also possible there was mechanical asphyxiation. It also entirely possible Floyd OD. It’s also possible both happened.

It’s easy to sit here and arm chair quarterback back everything. This is why we have a trial. To present facts and evidence and then to assess guilt or innocence and punishment accordingly.

One thing I’d be concerned about is him becoming a scape goat. I mean last summer the country was getting burned down. It all started with this incident, so...

All I know is I hope they come to the proper assessment and justice is done. If he’s guilty then I hope that shows and he’s punished accordingly, and if he’s innocent then I hope that shows and is cleared of all charges accordingly.
