Saw this on facebook. do you agree with this notice? to put it another way its kinda saying parking tickets are a way to punish poor people here's a news article on this subject:

I personally hate paying for parking especially the ridiculously high charges some carparks charge, especially the 24hour ones that use cameras. Whenever I go to one particular car park I've always got to help confused old people who can't work the overly complicated machine or understand the giant notice board of terms and conditions small print that buries important stuff like Sunday charges. Then there's the ones that expect you to download an app to pay, fuck that. One carpark machine caused chaos when tourists found it didn't give instructions in English.

One tourist attraction here, Mt snowdon, is notorious for people getting fined even towed for illegal parking. Truth is on a warm long weekend there simply isn't enough spaces and after driving 3 hours to get there people ain't going to just do a u turn and go home. Its a deliberate scam to get money.

So yes I do think parking charges are a weapon to discourage poor people from travelling, and yes I do redirect people to where they can legally park for free.

Well hard to say. I wouldn't call it a 'war' because I dont think its specifically targeted that way. That being said I know of some lets call them richer people who dont pay the ticket because they on average pay less that way if they occassionally pay a fine instead of allways the ticket. If they do loose access to their car they just use a second one or have other alternatives.
Poorer people just can't do that because of the risk loosing car access which does often hurts them much more. So they pay more than the rich people because the risk involved is comparably much higher.

In some developing downtown locales this helps encourage parking turn-around so that customers have easy access to available parking. It helps prevent premium parking spaces from being monopolized by residents, employees, and others. Long time parking can damage the customer accessibility for mom & pop shops trying to survive economically. If priced minimally then it’s a valuable tool.

However, in some jurisdictions this is nothing more than a revenue scam. How can you tell the difference? In the places where it’s goal is to control the availability of parking there is usually some version of a citizen control “parking commission” or committee of some kind, populated by residents and civilians. If there’s not, and parking regulations, fines, fees, and such are solely controlled and decided by some bureaucratic government entity - you probably have a funding ploy in place.

I can't support the vandalism. That's beyond civil disobedience. I can however agree with the sentiment. Fines are for social control and full disproportionately upon those who are at least able to pay. Essentially, a poverty tax. It is very expensive to be poor in America.

Yay me! I’m in the majority for once!
I say yes, because the majority of the nations urban poor, for the most part, do not own cars, but use public transportation. The wealthy can easily afford a paring ticket! Imagine you have $250,000.00 in savings! How hard it to pay a $100 parking ticket? Now imagine you are working class, and only having $25.00 in savings, and you get a $100 parking ticket. Obviously it’s going to affect the working class, (More and more becoming the working poor! because of this economy and inflation!)

Going to disagree, parking tickets are less about attacking the working class and more about going after the cheapskates who are too cheap to pay for parking. Though I will admit some people who legit pay do get tickets for not purchasing enough parking time.

I don’t think so. One, if you can own a car, insurance, gas, etc, you aren’t exactly classified as poor.

Not really. The rich get them too, they just can afford to pay them a lot easier (or hire a lawyer to fight them, though they rarely bother)
