I visited family member with terminal cancer in hospital last week. Prices for parking in front of hospitals are scam, even parking in Venice or Monaco was cheaper

Street definitely should be free
A parking garage is a different story
The businesses frequently are assessed a tax to cover the lineage in front of their store. If parking was free all the time, what would keep people from just parking their car there all week and never benefitting the storekeeper?
Nothing is free. Someone has got to pay for it or everybody has to pay for it.
