Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yThe best thing you could ever have in order to be prepared is a gun, so that you can kill yourself if things were truly bad.
Stocking food etc can certainly help you in some situations but you can't realistically expect to be able to store very much water.
Depending on your budget and how serious you are you could perhaps look into water treatment etc but frankly if things are so bad that the water is off for a significant time then society will have completely collapsed and you are now living in the iron age.
Which leads me back to the gun, you may not want to live like that or you may simply not be able to.060 Reply
Opinion Owner+1 yOk, so now you are off grid, that does put you in a stronger position but its extremely unlikely that you actually want to live an entirely self sufficient life, but if you think that you do and you understand that that means you have to be able to make, yourself, everything you ever need from scratch then I would suggest that you go for mechanical / manual type pumps rather than electric because you can't replace your solar panels and batteries when they fail, if your batteries have failed you can't start an engine.
You might be able to harness steam power, though i believe that is actually quite technical and dangerous.
The point is really how far do you go? What are you actually trying to protect yourself from? etc
Opinion Owner+1 yYou live in the United States, clearly your nation has the purchasing power to source food and take it out of the mouths of other if need be.
What that means is that this situation is temporary, though it is highly likely that the situation is being made worse, by people like you, because even if there were no shortages, if people start panic buying they disrupt the supply chain, demand has spiked and the supply isn't set up to meet that.
You are probably fine as you are right now, you should try not to worry yourself and perhaps give a thought to your neighbour who can't wipe his ass right now because you bought all the toilet paper.
Opinion Owner+1 yYou have missed the point that I am making, I actually suggesting that you directly help your neighbour.
If you were in a truly serious situation then revealing to others that you have resources would be extremely dangerous.
The point is that if people think there is a problem with supply they will panic buy which WILL cause a problem with supply even if there shouldn't be one / wouldn't be one if people were shopping normally.
Where do you live exactly? What is the situation?
I did look a little bit but most of the hits i got back seemed like bad sources of information, just assholes trying to make a buck off people thinking that the world has come to an end.
There seem to be some claims that crops have failed?- +1 y
What’s the situation stores have temporarily stopped shipment in my state and city. There’s no food on the shelves and I’m stocking piling until October. Whether it’s temporary or not there’s a lack of food on the shelves.. I have more stuff to get.. and I’m asking about Mylar bags to store beans and rice in..
Opinion Owner+1 yCould you share some sources?
That seems unlikely to me.
Why would they do that?
Opinion Owner+1 yfarmingbase.com/.../
This is most likely the basis of what you have been told though it would seem that you have been misinformed.
Opinion Owner+1 yWhat I linked is not a government website.
I will assume that you won't read it so let me explain the gist of what is being said.
Farmers are some times paid to destory crop in the event that the supply exceeds the demand in order to protect the value of the crop.
This isn't new, its been happening longer than you have been alive.
Opinion Owner+1 yIt is not a government website.
Opinion Owner+1 yNo, i think you have made it quite clear that you dont have the first idea what facts are.
I would suggest that you try to calm down and get a handle on reality because you are seriously delusional.
Opinion Owner+1 yClearly you haven't done your research because i was able to completely discredit what you are claiming with less than one minutes worth of work.
Opinion Owner+1 yIf what you claimed was true, it would be trivial to provide supporting evidence for your claim.
You can't do that.
I have provided evidence supporting my position.
If what you said were true i would be interested to know about it, but as things stand right now there is no substance to your claim.
Opinion Owner+1 yPresumably you think i am a government agent who is out to get you and you band of crazy friends?
Opinion Owner+1 yPlease do, you are of no value to me.
Opinion Owner+1 yMore importantly you are beyond help.
Opinion Owner+1 yJust out of interest:
911, was that an inside job or terrorists?
Opinion Owner+1 yIm pretty sure I know what you think anyway.
I think that you think that it was terrorists, because a republican told you that was true.
Opinion Owner+1 yWhat was this supposed to say?
'I what you think I’m thinking'

Uncooked rice does not need to be frozen or refrigerated, same with coffee beans, flour, sugar

I definitely think bad stuff is going to go down. But certain things are out of our hands. And humans generally can't thrive on their own anyway. We're social animals.03 Reply
+1 yGrain will be consumed by weevils and pests if not sterilised first and stored securely. Freezing will help. Bags on the shelf will not

Bake them at 240F for 2.5 hours first to kill the weevils

And add oxygen absorbers

You are quite welcome! If you do get weevils though, you can cook and eat them... they will just reduce the quality of the grain.
Just pretend they are pepper? 😆
tell me what's going on there. For such cases, it is necessary to stock up as much as possible. consumption should be less. I think you should have a plane ticket and lots of money just in case. If you are in a very difficult situation, you will change the country.
03 ReplyIt is great to be prepared but there is no way to know if and when a food shortage really will happen.
