Greece's geography makes reliance on a border wall a bit questionable... It's a daunting endeavor for the US because of the sheer length of both of our land borders, but Greece has mountains to the north, and dozens of islands all around it. The US also treats its border fortifications more as a funnel than a failsafe, too. Additionally, the EU does not typically do a good job of securing borders between member nations, which is great for people going on vacation but abysmal in the sense of security. This sounds like either symbolic political image-based maneuvering, or a prelude to something much more unsavory, like straight up ethnic discrimination. I wouldn't put the latter past Greece given their history with the Turks in particular.

The US-mexico border is 1,954 miles long. There's about 3,144,572 meters in that distance. The effective range of M240 machine guns is about 800 meters, but you'd want to interlock their fields of fire, so realistically you'd need to space them out no more than 400 meters, but we'll go with 200 per your suggestion. That comes down to 15,723 machine gun towers. That's a minimum of the same number of guns (if treating them like we did overseas many of those towers would have more than one), a minimum of two soldiers with a minimum of 3 shifts each. So what you're suggesting is to permanently post a little over 94,000 troops (at least) all across the border for the sole purpose of shooting anything that moves to their general south? This is also before taking into account that hundreds of outposts would have to be built and spaced out to maintain these sites, and all of the logistics and support assets needed to maintain all of this, and we haven't even addressed the northern border yet, which rarely makes the news but is absolutely just as much of a vulnerability according to every CBP officer who's ever worked it, and is also almost three times as long...
