Did the North win the American civil war because of air superiority?

I was discussing the situation in Afghanistan and my dad said america relies to much on air superiority and that's why they keep losing wars. He made the point you can only drop so many bombs at thousands of dollars a bang on tents and camels before the accountants start grumbling. I agreed but pointed out American bombing during ww2 was significant.

He reminded me that as a girl I don't really know much about guy stuff like war then surprised me by saying the North only won the American civil war because they dominated the skies or otherwise they'd have got their asses kicked.

He then showed me a picture he found on the internet to prove it so I guess it must be true. He says it's also the reason the American constitution allows civilians to have guns but not fighter planes or bombers.

Okay well clearly has no idea what he is talking about. We didn't lose a war first and foremost. We went in and removed terrorist threats. the powers that be (our very corrupt government) decided we would be able to make the people of afganistan want to be free and want to have a democracy and want to have security. What they didn't factor in is that the people of afganistan wanted NONE of these things. You cannot make a person choose freedom, you cannot make them do much of anything. So we fought we won, but we can never force the people their to accept that a democratic system that doesn't rely on terrorism is the best system. So the "war" was won, but it didn't really matter because what we hoped for is something they didn't want.

As for Air superiority, sure we have that, we also have naval superiority and ground superiority. We haven't relied on any one more then the other (maybe an over reliance on tech now a days but that is a different story).

But I'm sure the UK will gladly step up and get involved in these places instead of relying on us throwing our money and lives away doing so.

That's a funny picture, but you know what? Everyone lost in the War Between the States. Something we seem to be headed back to, also.

It does seem that women do not pay much attention to war and such and prefer to leave it to the men, but I have a really astounding announcement. Women may be drafted into the military if it is not stopped in congress.

Israel has always had mandatory service for all genders. Other countries are Armenia, Cape Verde, Chad, China, Eritrea, Norway, North Korea, and Sweden.

I personally believe it's wrong for the US. It would take up too much space to expand on that, but I don't like it. The women's voluntary service has always been a part of our military in one way or another. Today, women can do almost anything they are capable of. We do not need to register and draft all women over the age of 18.

The North had balloons that allowed them to see long distances.

Mostly, the North won over the South due to the fact the South would not allow or use the black men to fight. So the North outnumbered them strategically and eventually won.

The reason the US keep losing wars is because politicians never think it through. If your going to invade a country like Afghanistan, Vietnam, Iraq and install a US friendly government then your going to need to commit forces there for as long as it takes.
When I was over there all I heard was politicians jingo like winning hearts and minds and the US pulling out eventually. The taliban knew just to cause as many US deaths as possible and wait it out, it was the same in the Vietnam war. Instead the US should have wiped out the taliban and never left.

Also, Americans killed more of their own troops and ALLIES, than the enemies in air strikes during WW2 and Vietnam.

It's a historical fact that the backwards Southern states lost because they didn't have the same sophisticated weaponry as the north. It was Yankee rockets, missiles, jet planes and bombs that won the war.

Clearly air superiority is important but you can't take ground without boots.

It seems now though that I dont know as much about this as i thought because I had been under the impression that the Tomcat had been developed later than 1863 but it is right there in the picture so?

North taxed the south, and constructed railways that would interconnect the Northern states yet leave the south without.

During the war supplies would be transported quicker, so despite the military might of the south the taxes and slow deliverance of supplies eventually took its toll.

Slavery would have been rendered ineffective eventually, regardless of Civil conflict or not as Europe was already moving away from Southern textiles

Well i mot sure on that. It was a rough tine of single shot guns. You shot once then put gun powder in it then a ball. Its more the slaves in North fought for freedom while slaves in South was working cotton and tobacco fields
