Big picture... the Bible basically sums it up this way.
Humans rebelled... ate the fruit "if you eat of it you will surely die".
They ate it. Death entered the world, pain, suffering, disease, sin, the knowledge of good an evil, tribulation, storm, problems, droughts, disasters... etc.
God offered his son to pay the punishment for every human that has ever existed or will exist to pay the penalty for the punishment we deserve. It is free to all who will accept it.
Those that accept it are with God for eternity.
Those that reject it are separated from God.

God states this world is finite. It will end. Every person will physically die.
We get 5-10 years...70-80. A few decades of physical life in this fallen world.
He has created an eternal perfect world to replace this one where there is no pain, death, torment, we will be in perfect bodies with God for eternity. Everything we thought was great about this world will pale in comparison with the perfect world not tainted by death and separation from God.

Everyone will die, all bodies will die, decay, grow old, wither and return to dust. That is a fact. We live on though and will go on to eternity.

That is what it says in the Bible... summed up.
They died as every person is destined to die and they went on to to their eternal place... wherever that is.

Its hard to say because God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts and his ways are higher than our ways. For what purpose would this happen? It might not be disclosed but we need to remember that God is gracious to us even though we don’t deserve it and if he removes his restraint from the evil of this world for just a moment it will be for good even though it doesn’t look that way. Sometimes something bad happens for the sake of others. Just how Jesus layed down his life so he could pay for our sins he did what was needed.
