This is my point. The COVID pandemic started 2 years ago or so in msot world countries. The virus was new and noone knew almost nothing about it, not even doctors or scientists so starting to learn about it the found out it was similar to the flu or influenza but different and more dangerous, therefore the reason why the facial mask, social, distancing wash your hands and avoid crowds at all cost were implemented. We all learned that like all pandemics the crisis will pass sooner or later. So people stucked at their houses, working remotely, not going out as much as possible only to buy necessary things, some lost their jobs, many businesses were closed and many unemployed people around the world. Back then people helped people in need, they were empathic, like if a person could not go shopping maybe beacuse the person could not , anotehr person could help him/her out, just to name a type of help between people and people helping people, we also were grateful of things back then, maybe that some of us did not catch the virus and got complicated while there was not even a vaccine back then. People obbey anbd were responsible for their own actions. Lots of us wish the vaccine come soon so the medical services wotn crowd but that could only happen if people follow the hygiene protocols to avoid over crowded hospitals and clinics and people cooperate by follow those guidelines. We gave animals a fresh air and now we were the ones locked in our houses and not them in cages, less pollution or trash on the streets as people could not be out littering the streets. We thanked the nurses and doctors that were at the hospitals trying to save lives due to this virus at the extend of their own lives

So I found this phrase on the net one year ago that goes like this: "Everything will pass and we will be more grateful, more supportive, more emphatic, more humble, more fair, better people and we had learned". Now one year after I had learned that we as human beings had

You have a valid point there except for one thing.
It's true that 2 years ago covid was an unkown both to people and to doctors and people fear what they can't understand.
But today covid is not more dangerous than the flu, the sad reality is the flu has always been this dangerous but it was never highlighted as part of a political agenda. All covid victims had other health issues and covid only made that worse and killed them.
No one who was perfectly healthy lost his or her life to covid those who seem like they were always turned out to have some undiagnosed problems mainly in the lungs.

The thing that sets covid apart from the flu is it's resistance to antibiotics: so if you catch the flu you take a pill and it's fine, you catch covid you will suffer the effects.

But today as you said we have a vaccine, that makes it so if you catch covid it will pass like the flu. The problem is it's still being used as a political tool.

One side wants to manate it to all people disregarding their rights as humans. And the other side is rebelling agaisnt it to the point of disregarding their own healthes.

The solution is to give freedom of choice back to people, let those who wish for this layer of protection have it and those who do not wish for it take their own risks, belive me once it's a choice and not a mandate, everyone will get it like we get all other shots because refusing to get it now is only to spite those who want it forced and just like so many other things it will never be forced.

It's time we remember to treat eachother like fully functioning human beings and stop trying to control one another's life decisions regardless of whether we agree or not.

Who told you the flu as never killed 650K in 18 months? You do know that many places around the world don't keep statistics when it comes to the flu or any other "common" disease. People die from it every second let alone every day but it's part of the human life cycle and no one complains, don't get me started on the number of people who get run over by cars every day.

The bottom line is covid is only as deadly as anything else and we've always lived normal lives never hid in our own homes cowering in fear of a death we cannot escape one way or the other.

So everyone keeps saying, but the reality is when you get the protection of your shot, they can't affect you anymore only eachother. Sure you can get covid but it will pass like a regular flu it removes the deadly element.
And people fear variants but scientifically speaking variants are adapted from our own dna so they are less deadly and the proof is in the numbers the new variants are more contagious and resistant to some vaccines but less dangerous overall. Eventually we will have developed herd immunity and our bodies will be built in such a way to accommodate covid without deteriorating but that takes time and there's nothing we can do about it. In fact the more we hide in our homes the more time it will take ironically.

Personally I took the vaccine but I can't do much more than that and will not live in fear.

I'm referring to the fact that the vast majority of welfare programs for families with children go to single mother household, effectively replacing the role of the father. That's usually when people refer to when the term is used.

The nanny state you are referring to is fascism and it can be a nanny state but I'm mainly thinking of China and some of the major cities in Australia where state mandated phone apps give you permission to leave your house or use certain services.

Because if you want to play it that way, no one is forcing you to get the vaccine or wear a mask, you can chose not to and get fined for it just like if such mandates weren't in place, people with comorbidities could chose to leave their house and risk dying. Mask and social distancing mandates aren't taking away your individual liberties, they're preventing you from taking liberties away from others. And while the right is complaining about the left labelling non-vaxed like the Nazis labeled Jews with yellow badges, if you think that people should have to stay in their homes or risk death just so you don't have to be inconvenienced by wearing a mask, you've already fallen into the mindset of categorizing an entire group of people as being "lesser".

As for "shutting down the economy" (before we learned what does and doesn't work in terms of limiting the spread of the virus) had we not done that, even if it didn't kill them the virus would have made about half the population of a given state too sick to work for weeks on and and about a quarter of the population too sick to work for months on end. This would have had a far worse impact on the economy because the virus doesn't care if you're essential or non-essential. And even if you don't have co morbidities, if you face an unrelated medical crisis you could still die a preventable death because there are no ICU beds available.

It's still being forced because a fine is still a punishment, of which prison usually follows if you can't pay it. I'm not saying the mask and the vaccine are bad things otherwise I wouldn't have gotten either, I'm saying it shouldn't be mandated. Many people have spoken to their doctors and have been told not to get it because of their medical history. What the hell are they supposed to do? If untreated (which it will be if the healthcare system is overwhelmed) people 65+ (who comprise 1/6th of the population) have a 1/7 chance of dying of coronavirus. Arguing that we should let it rip is the statistical equivalent of saying to 1/7th of the population that if you want to leave their house they have to survive a round of Russian Roulette. That would be a far greater infringement on individual liberty than any kind of vaccine or mask mandate.
