I once worked for a company where the CEO was named Dick Peters. This was back when getting paid with a paper check was still common (hey, I'm old). I always had a little giggle when I got that check signed by Dick Peters. It doesn't answer your question, I know.

I like how Cox is a real surname from Britain, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that there's a Dick Cox out there somewhere.

Dick is a nickname for Richard. Richard is an old English word for penis. So basically its just a 800 year old running joke.
