Please vote. It would be nice to explain what your state's laws says about it. In my country hate speech is illegal but police does not really take care of it in my experience since they have to take care about other many cases. Please be nice and do not insult anyone. Vote please as i said. I am going to use this poll for another question.

democracy depends on the free market of ideas. we can't express new ideas to people if we can't share them. and that inherently means people might be offended. we can't know. if you're against hate speech. in the end you are against democracy

  so if I tell you to "watch your back I'm coming for you" I should go to jail? even if I have no intention of following through with any physical violence? regulation on speech is a very difficult proposition. there are many ways things could be misconstrued and lawyers can play angles on words to get innocent people convinced and ruin lives.

  @whosnumber1 threatening someone's life, as you said, there should be some kind of punishment... but I don't know, if we were going to analyze only the USA, the first amendment prohibits as far as I know even this type of punishment

  Well the problem is free speech has not been expanded enough. It usually only encompasses the government and not private institutions.

  hate speech is many things too many people. What you call hate I might not. So, the risk is allowing one group or individual to decide what is. You can end up with no free speech. Hitler did that in Germany
