+1 yThis made me so angry. I work in a distribution warehouse. I work as a route manager and have 10 drivers that I oversee. I do everything from creating and organizing their routes, to contacting clients and other support tasks. If there was a threat of inclement/emergency threat level weather while on the job, I'm telling them to drop what they're doing, return to the warehouse (if possible) to leave the trucks and get the fuck to safety. The freight I tell them to haul is not worth their lives

If there isn't a safe place at work leaving the workplace to go home and shelter in your basement would be the solution. They seemed to have enough time to argue with their boss before the tornado hit.
Opinion Owner+1 yPlus tornadoes generally move slowly across the ground. You could probably out run 98% of them in a smart car. We had a windstorm on Wednesday and it was moving really fast for a storm at 70 mph.

From images in the video that general advice doesn’t seem to hold much weight. Area’s prone to tornados need safe bunkers capable of surviving this type of destruction.

Money=incentives hmmmm 🧐
- +1 y
@vald9inches There is money in all political systems. None of them abolish money.
- +1 y
Um dont you mean economic system? Also one system has money as an integral part of it more than the other...
- +1 y
@vald9inches Even in hardcore socialists countries money is KING. They just have a lot of rules to make it hard for the average person to become wealthy. But if you have the right connections it's allowed. In North Korea for example, sometimes they order everyone to work 13-15 hour shifts in factories for 8-10 days at a time, months on end BUT if you have a lot of money you can buy vacation time and skip the work. You have to be rich to do it tho.
Asker+1 y@hahahmm North Korea is a dictatorship. A very strict one, people there even have legal haircuts and don't have access to internet. Not socialist.
Also in countries with very few socialist policies like the US you are not more likely to get out of poverty compared to the one that do.- +1 y
@asker in human history every society used to have a lot of strict rules, even if there wasn't a dictator. If you wore the wrong clothes even 100 years ago you could get arrested in the U. S. That was back when capitalism had more of a free hand in the U. S. too. "Also in countries with very few socialist policies like the US you are not more likely to get out of poverty compared to the one that do." -- Uh, what? You need to tell that to all of the migrants running to the U. S. I've met several who went from broke to rich within 5-7 years. They disagree with you.
Asker+1 y@hahahmm one thing is to have laws, another is to strip people of basic human rights.
The ones running to the US are running from a situation where they don't have anything to eat into a situation where they will have a little something to eat. But if they could go to another
more socialist country like Switzerland they would have a decent amount to eat.
Don't confuse dictatorships or latin American countries, who were always destroyed by the US, with actual socialism.- +1 y
@hahahmm ummm i highly recommend to take any information about North Korea with a huge grain of salt. Any information about North Korea is notoriously unreliable and also fraught with capitalistic or western propaganda... Also in America you are statically very likely to be bankrupt by medical and student debt than to ever get out of poverty. Do you have a chance to get out of poverty? Yea sure you do but just as you have a chance at winning the lottery its extremely unlikely. The odds will always be stacked against you
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yPeople who are born believing this system and they don't learn about history, they don't learn about previous empires, they don't learn about different ideologies, they don't learn about the federal reserve or terms such as military industrial complex, biological warfare, zionism, wahhabism and they allow ignorance and arrogance to take over with childish responses such as "ohhh so you want to $1/hour living in Cuba you fucking idiot" type comments that indicates to me they are lost. Capitalism is greed, it's a system where the people on the top benefit and those on the bottom suffer. Ask young people today who feel they are so intelligent that they love capitalism and let 30 years go by and then ask them how they feel if they broke their back for capitalism, if they lost loved ones for capitalism because they couldn't spend more time with, the list goes on. It won't surprise me one bit if another Great Depression happens, it won't surprise me if another World War occurs. Someone is going to read this and assume I'm a communist or socialist, actually I'm not, but I do believe in human rights and workers rights. China is a communist country and they don't believe in workers rights the same way the United States doesn't either. Another thing is, for any nimrod who wants to use his or her Twitter fingers to give this comment a dislike and automatically assume I'm a socialist/communist should understand something. Karl Marx was someone who didn't believe in God and said people who do are basically asleep. I believe in God and in one God only, therefore, why would I support an ideology based off something Marxists use today derived from a man who didn't have real faith. The system is corrupt. People called me a fucking loser and a fucking idiot for a few years back on GAG when I said another recession is coming or that 2020 will be the start of something terrible, or that the decade of the 2020s will see unprecedented things or that crypto currency will be the new form of currency.
Let's fast forward 2 years later...
- Global pandemic in early 2020
- Bank of America announced a global recession in March 2020
- Economists warned of a bigger economic collapse one day
- Unemployment rates rise even though companies are also downsizing but making revenue from more online sales
- The United States is pretty much promoting and advertising crypto currency now that they are even naming stadiums after it
- Geopolitical tension with the potential of war
I can keep going on, but it doesn't, people will give this comment a dislike because I spoke the truth and it doesn't conform to their way of thinking. To those people I say, I'm not going to drink their Kool-Aid and say "the economy will bounce back, everything will go back to normal, capitalism will always make Europe and the US victorious, blah, blah, blah. I know the go-to drill people use to reply to comments. Eventually capitalism/neoliberalism will collapse and it will be a huge slap to the face of those who thought this system was indestructible. Political ideologies was used to divide people and fool people. The fact that there are people int he West who hate people in the East just because a government pushes an ideology. That doesn't mean everyone is evil or bad in this world. But politicians, the media, the news and governments plant those hateful seeds into the minds of others and then it just takes over the mind.11 Reply

8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. We generally call this "Late Capitalism". The idea is pretty simple, Capitalism is the pursuit of profits and does not have any real internal mechanisms to prevent it from violating various things like freedoms, personal health etc.. As such if you let it "run" for long enough then capitalism will inevitably evolve into something like this where corporate profits is more important than peoples lives.
Its important to note that this is not the only direction late capitalism can go in. Another example is destruction of our environment such as climate change or worse in pursuit of profit. Under a pure capitalist system its entirely possible to evaluate the extinction of humanity VS profit and choose profit. That is the absurdity of Capitalism in isolation.
As such its important to be aware of this aspect of Capitalism and make sure to reel it back in whenever it gets any funny ideas. Sadly this is not really a thing in USA.23 Reply- +1 y
Beautiful well said! But you have to admit it will be a never ending constant struggle to keep corruption and capitalism from reaching the late stage.
- +1 y
@vald9inches Definitely. Capitalism is not a perfect system and has its major flaws however it is also a very powerful ideology so without any better alternatives its worth to fight to keep it around in a subdued state. That is why many modern countries tries to use Socialism and Capitalism to try balance them against each other as both a way to get the best out of both worlds but also to prevent either one of them from getting too much influence and fall into their bad side effects.
- +1 y
Yea we definitely do need a better system capitalism has definitely way outlived its usefulness and in this day and age of technology and progress it is only in the way
... wut lol
Your premise falls about rather quickly. Business owners are protected yet don't give af about the worker. Do you have any idea how easy it is to cause legal trouble for Business owners?
The only protections they get by and large is related to the risk they are taking on in the process of creating jobs for workers to have within the economy.
Additionally with the numerous workers rights and ability to sue and win against the company. You can't say the system doesn't protect the worker.
Let's say he fires them and gets taken to court. Do you really believe the Business owner wins that lawsuit?05 Reply
Asker+1 yUnder capitalism the business owner are far more protected than the workers. Let's say they take them to court. Business owner have the money to drag on the process making the workers spend lots of moeny they don't have until they have to drop it. Appeal after appeal and the companies can spend that money in court.
Even Trump already admited to do this! It's a very common and sadly effective. Not to mention brides that take place behind the scenes.
So yes the business owner wins the lawsuit.- +1 y
System protection are the rules and powers of government uniquely looking out for the business owner. Having money and paying the lawyers is not "the system" looking out for them. They're leveraging their resources which is an entirely separate matter.
Businesses have been caught in cases in the last where they lost in court simply for having an unsafe work place. Any proof showing the company or supervisors told them they are fired if they leave is damning in court.
And a lawyer that stands to make bank winning against a big company will take that on cheap to free because the case is readily winnable. Easier still when it's public in the media
Asker+1 yActually it is because the government can force companies to allow unions. In countries with heavy socialism big companies have big unions and do heavy damage if they want. In the US? Companies make sure thier workers don't have a union.
www.geekwire.com/.../
When I say the system backs them up is because it does nothing to protect workers when they are being exploited.
Even if they make it cheap a process that drags on forever while you probably don't have a job after your company fired you because of the lawsuit you put on them won't be easy to pay. And is never a certain win.

+1 yCapitalism does not cause tornadoes, no. If you're asking whether it causes people to be risk being fired if they take basic safety precautions, then allow me to introduce you to Cuba, where you risk being SHOT if you insist on basic safety precautions; the USSR, where you risk being shot and billed for the bullet if you ask "shouldn't we have some safety precautions?"; and North Korea, where you risk having your entire family starve to death in a forced labor camp if you learn the phrase "safety precautions".
Capitalism, by contrast, lets you leave a job that has no regard for worker safety, and find a better one. Or organize a union to protect yourself and your fellow workers from abuse.
It is, by far, the worst of all economic systems- except for all the others.10 Reply - 2.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yFirst, this has nothing to do with capitalism. Second, the company wanted them to go into bathrooms and hallways. That's the right thing to do. From what I gather, when they were told not to leave, there was no warning at that time. It had been lifted.
Bottom line is that these guys might have wanted to go home, but there was no reason to.
On top of that, many (most?) of us who live in tornado country don't take those tornado warnings too seriously. They are a warning to be alert, not to go running immediately for shelter.00 Reply

And assuming the tornado wasn't infront of them, maybe there was miscommunication. I do think the justification for firing although beneficial, isn't necessary
10 Reply 897 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I don´t see how that couldn´t happen in a socialistic society because the original problem is the careless behavior of high positions. In a socialistic society you can still face the problems because there are also people in high positions claiming the same kind of authority for themselves.

No job just fires you at the drop of a hat like that, especially when there is a public safety issue. At worst you'll get some mark against you and if you leave early or miss work enough times within a certain period they let you go.
I am highly suspicious of that being true.01 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yYes. Capitalism causes this, the return of child labor, exploitation of workers, and billionaires playing astronaut while the people who work for them have to work 60+ hours a week just to keep a roof over their head, even though without those workers, the billionaires would have nothing. Capitalism brings a small group of people profiting greatly off of the pain of the masses.

+1 yYes, under an ideal communist system if there was a tornado instead of being told to stay with the risk of being fired the commisar would have forced the workers with AK-47s trained on them to work faster so that as much product could be made and thus more of it will likely survive a tornado strike.
00 Reply 1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No Capitalism did not cause this, it can be places at the feet of managers who have no respect for the workers they they are responsible for.
A bad manager can take a good work force and destroy it, causing the best employees to flee and the remainder to lose all motivation.13 Reply- +1 y
@msc545 More likely the managers were on a power trip, and did not believe that a tornado would hit where they were working, which is rank stupidity, I live in the UK and we rarely if ever get full blown tornado's and those that we do never get to F1 level but we still have the sense to take cover if a warning is sent out, If they find those managers responsible for telling those workers to remain at their work stations they should be hit with Reckless Endangerment charges at the very least, up to Manslaughter if workers have died because of their negligence.
+1 yNot protecting employees’ safety is not capitalism just like punishing an employee by dunking his head in the toilet for not making a sale is not capitalism. Companies usually have designated shelters and a process for protecting their employees when there is an emergency such as an active shooter or tornado. This company failed big and they’re going to be sued into oblivion, as they should.

@vald9inches not to argue a whole lot on your points but America did NOT have the support of England when they started out. In fact they were sending troops over here to kill us and bring us back under England's rule.

@vald9inches oh yeah England had the support of England. But the USA did not.
- +1 y
Its was still a British colony though lol my point is however you look at it the US had some support until it became self sufficient enough
- +1 y
@vald9inches the British colony had support. The United States and their Declaration of Independence had opposition. And even that "support of the British colony" was pretty meager. The pilgrims were on their own foraging and dying in droves. It was all the outcasts who came to America like Irish fleeing the potato famine, persecuted religious groups, etc.
- +1 y
I don't understand why you are trying to downplay it so hard? Lol its like you yourself was there and you are defending your own pride or something 😂
- +1 y
@vald9inches not downplay or up-play anything, just don't think the statement is accurate. It's not personal attachment for me, just why say England was supporting them when it wasn't? There were no welfare checks rolling out of England; the only reason they wanted it was to get resources sent back TO England,
- +1 y
And i suppose all the tools, firearms, and food was never supplied to them on this trip to the new world huh? Do you honestly really believe you can make a colony or a settlement without having to support it?

@vald9inches yes of course there were ships, munitions, etc. All that was as I've already said in the expectation that it was an investment that would reap rewards of goods flowing back to England.

Lol, socialism is awesome it just has never been successfully accomplished.. That’s what you’re telling me.
Opinion Owner+1 yNazis are left wing just look at George Soros so that's one argument down
Socialism doesn't work well if the socials would agree to jump in a mass grave and let the rest of us be it would be great
Asker+1 yAre you serious? Nazis are right wing. As right as you can get actually.
Asker+1 y@joeldalton yes

oh wow..."debunked" by a retarded lefty. No shock.
Asker+1 y@joeldalton but he is right. What socialists consider socialism is what north european countries have. And they are far from failures. So yes, socialism never failed.
Also insulting him just because of what he is defending holds no value.- +1 y
What you are calling socialism is government gimmes. That's not socialism. Most of those countries have free markets
Opinion Owner+1 ySee Joel we beat another one
Asker+1 y@joeldalton yes it is. Do you know anything about the subject?
Asker+1 yOpinion owner you said that nazis are from the left. You beat yourself.
Opinion Owner+1 yThey are the EU was born in the ashes of Nazism and follow the same policies in less extreme forms at this point
Asker+1 yNot even close. You have zero knowledge on the matter.
The EU formed over 10 years after the end of the war and they tried to repress Nazi ideology as much as possible. So they went left not right.
Nazism is a form of fascism, with disdain for liberal democracy. Literally far right.
Opinion Owner+1 y10 years wow, like how those war criminals still turn up occasionally, the left could tell you the sky is pink and you'd swallow it
Asker+1 yThere are still people who defend nazi ideology sadly.
I don't blindly believe anything. And neither should you. However told you nazis where not right wing lied. And you swallowed it.
Opinion Owner+1 yThat's the Jewish community so on Nazism do I take the word of the victims or a guy who would let the Nazis carry on if they aren't affecting him personally as you have with you acceptence of the EU
Asker+1 yFirst of all, neither I or any socialism would let the nazis carry on regardless if they affected us personally or not. In fact the US was the only country that only entered the war when it began to affect it. If not they would have let nazis have their way.
Second, this is not an opinion. Nazism is a form of fascism, wich is extreme right. This is just a fact. Google it if you want.
Opinion Owner+1 yGoogle definitely isn't in operational in California the woke cesspool, only you've refered to the US as my geographic location, incorrectly I should add
Once you get on to the higher plain of understanding that shows the political spectrum is in fact a circle and extremism i. e. fascism exists equally in all parties
Asker+1 yThe US are usually the ones who defend this system and are this much ignorant about socialism. Ever since the cold war they have an agenda against comunism and they mistake it for the socialism we defend today.
This "fascism exists equally in all parties" is literally impossible. Fascism by defenition is extreme right wing. It's not possible for every party to have it equally.
Opinion Owner+1 yYou've been indoctrinated and an even see it, that's how the 'education' system works worldwide to create more liberal puppets, voting for their own death warrants
It's kinda cute really
Asker+1 yThe system brainwash you against socialism. Not against capitalism
Opinion Owner+1 yThe system has allowed you to be devoid of free thought
Asker+1 yYou are confused... mine is free thought
Opinion Owner+1 yClearly not if you vote for poverty and genocide
Asker+1 ySee? Socialism has nothing to do with genocide and poverty. Yet here you are. Why? Why do you have such a false view on it? I tell you why, because you were made to believe it.
Opinion Owner+1 ySocialism causes poverty and commits genocide to keep itself sustainable then the army don't want to kill anymore and everyone stops working, starts fucking and you end up with overpopulation and hyperinflation
Asker+1 yExcept that is not at all how any of developed socialist countries work. They have a very low poverty rate. High employment. Affordable housing. Free healthcare. Free education. But the level of education of their population is also high.
And zero genocide. So... A you know are lies. And you say you are not brainwashed
Opinion Owner+1 yThey hide the issues and the genocide
Affordable housing doesn't exist anymore, anywhere
Asker+1 yThey hide it? Your excuse is that they have secret conversation camps? So we are into conspiracy theories now?
Asker+1 yYou believe in non existent genocide and you say you are not brainwashed. This is surreal.
Opinion Owner+1 yThey kill them in hospital and just put natural causes on the death certificate, conversation cps now that is funny
Asker+1 ySo not concentration camps they just pile bodies at the hospital 😂
Opinion Owner+1 yLook at Harold Shipman, that's the way they do it then just lie on the paperwork and cremate them to destroy any evidence
Asker+1 ySo you think entire countries do the same thing a lunatic did. They do it by the thousands, they have lots of staff and medical professionals on it?
This is the same sa saying big comapnies in capitalism have forced labour and that is how they keep their profit. It's pure conspiracy theory. And shows lack of notion of reality on your part.
Opinion Owner+1 yHell I just want them to go in to nuclear warfare once new year is over
Asker+1 yThey are not going to.
Opinion Owner+1 yIt'll happen most country's haven't surrendered to the pandemic and let China fuck them so they need more to get the world in their hand
Asker+1 yWhat the hell are you even talking about? More conspiracy theories?
Opinion Owner+1 yYou know but won't admit the truth
Asker+1 yI genuinely don't know. You have a bunch of make up believes how am I supposed to understand?
+1 yThere are shitty people in charge of every type of organization you can dream up.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yYes it is. Capitalism is sociopathic, just like most businesses and corporations. This extreme sociopathic capitalism is the main cause of communism.
00 ReplyThat's not capitalism that's greed and a moronic choice by the managers of the company

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yNot sure how you you made the leap to capitalism here. Lol

Opinion Owner+1 yI suspect the problem here was that the employees "axed to go home". Of course they would be told no. No supervisor is going to authorize that kind of workplace violence.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yYou think that's bad? You should see what communism causes!
Opinion Owner+1 ySure, but under capitalism a worker can always tell his employer to go fuck himself and walk off the job. Under communism you end up in a gulag where such behavior is. . . shall we say. . . frowned upon.
