During the US Capitol riots of January 6th , 2021 , why do you think the US Capitol police did not open fire on the crowd?

Not saying i think firing was the right answer but basically the cops had bad tactics that day so they were screwed. And by the time they figured that out they were knee deep in a crowd of angry people without riot gear. And even if you wanted to shoot into a crowd, you'd be foolish to do it at close range with a small amount of ammo on hand. The end result will be you getting stomped to death by 50 people.
Some theorize that their leadership set them up to fail. And/or that the pentagon wanted to be neutral so didn't provide any help prior to/during.
Because is a hight risk for a civil war? (in any country not just USA)
The population can afther the openin fire order can devide more in thous who suport the sistem and thous who don't.
If you open the fire in that moment the people will think the power is opresing them and don't care about the minority whitch is a part of the country as well.
Will the majority will feel proud for the hard and ferm answer of openin fire.
Look at France revolution, Romania revolution, Ukrain revolution, Belarus revolution.
In all thous countrys the institution open the fire extremly fast then they need to and nothing good hapen afther, right afther revolution or war started.
Same reason police didn't open fire on all the riots in 2020.
Had they done it, the back lash for all the unarmed people being killed would of potentially lead to a civil war.
Government police killing hundreds or thousands of unarmed people is called a massacre.
Just cause a few people are armed doesn't mean you can kill the whole group, or else there wouldn't of been many riots last year.
Because the worlds media was covering the event. Also would Trump order them to kill his supporters?

A number of people were invited in or let in by the Capitol Police in the first place, so why would those police shoot them? And there would have been mass panic and many more casualties if they had started shooting the crowds. Furthermore, it did not meet the standard required for use of firearms.
Plus, BLM and Antifa didn't get shot.
The trump coup attempt obviously had inside help so I'd say , probably for the same reason they can assault and injure the police, threaten to kill, and try to carry out those threats to the vice president and speaker of the house and get let off with a slap on the wrist by a judiciary stacked with Fox" news " watching Trump supporters.
Nothing about any of it says slap on the wrist. If anything, they’re obviously being raked over the coal harder than anyone just for being political opponents.
I love how people think jan 6th was a trump coup attempt. It was just a peaceful protest like the Chaz folks get over it.
As for why the police didn't open fire it's because the crowd wasn't being violent. In fact if you watch the footage from that day there are numerous examples of the capitol police just letting people into the building.
Only because that would be insane, and that's not what we do, MOST of the time. Logistically, the cops weren't prepared for what confronted them. Although if you ask a few moron Senators, like Ron Johnson, it was "just another tourist day in DC", so why would you open fire on tourists?
There wouldn't be justification for it. In order to fire your weapon you must reasonably believe your life or someone else's life is in serious threat of bodily harm or death.
People pushing and breaking property isn't justification, although one lady trying to get to the other side of the lobby through a window was shot and killed.
Because they don't have that kind of weaponry. They don't have automatic weapons and they'd be overwhelmed.
Unfortunately, the Trump Administration didn't help with back-up when it was requested.
A better question is why didn't the rioters open fire on the Bastille, I mean capital. They had a good chance to wipe out a big chunk of Congress and blew it.
There wasn't enough ammunition in their disposal. Plus itll be easier control a crowd if you didn't agitate the mass, cause it can quickly become a mob which would be unstoppable.
Because the idiots they shot would be seen as martyrs and trumptards could then play the victim card despite being the aggressors. Not shooting was a smart move.
I kind of wish the insurrectionists killed someone because it would've been politically catastrophic to trump and the retardlican party.
From what's been described, the Capitol police were not trained to deal with a crowd like the one on Jan 6, and also because the crowd was, in general, not armed.
They had no reason to. There was no firearms present. There was no significant violence by the protestors.
Are you blind, stupid, or only watch Newsmax, or something?
"At least 138 police officers (73 Capitol Police officers, 65 Metropolitan Police Department officers),[21] including at least 15 hospitalized[22]"
en.wikipedia.org/.../2021_United_States_Capitol_attack
Search for Christopher Alberts, Mark Mazza, Guy Reffitt, Mark Ibrahim. They all had guns. Lonnie Leroy Coffman had "unregistered firearms, a crossbow, machetes, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a large capacity ammo clip and 11 Mason jars filled with gasoline and Styrofoam"
Because they were outnumbered and did not have the type of firepower that could stop the crowd from overwhelming them.
They were far outnumbered and had no intel on how many were carrying weapons. It could have turned into a bloodbath.
Maybe for the same reason they held the gates open for them and TOLD them to come in.
"Videos of police officers allowing or even encouraging people to enter the Capitol grounds during the Jan. 6 incident have been perplexing to many, and now 35 Capitol Police officers are under investigation for their actions on that day."

It would be absolutely retarded to open fire on your own populous that just walked away a hour later anyway.
Come on e7.. she was breaking into a secured area. Most people wouldn't hesitate to do the same in their own house. If someone is unarmed and coming to steal your TV, you aren't going to say you gunned them down in cold blood. She shouldn't have been there and you know it. None of them should have.
@Ez-Bri-Z They have a right to protest, just like all the BLM protesters that set fires, destroyed statues, burned police cars, assaulted people and yet nobody was shot and very few were arrested and those that were arrested were immediately a let go. There are still protesters from Jan 6th that are being held without bail almost a year later.
There were hours of videos that the democrats refuse to release because it will show Capitol police with assault rifles standing there while protesters peacefully walked past them.
Ashlii Babbit was not even through that window when she was gunned down by a trigger happy cop. You could even see the gun shaking in his hand as he shot her. What is never discusses was the armed Capitol police officer that was standing behind her just watching the whole thing. Why was he letting everyone pass?
Protest outside the building then. You don't have a right to unlawfully enter a federal building, chant "hang Mike Pence" threaten the lives of officers of the law, assault them with various objects, break windows and doors, rifle through politicians belongings containing federal information, defecate in areas, hunt for democratic members of congress to kill them and then call it a peaceful protest.
His hands were shaking because he was afraid or had a burst of adrenaline. An armed mob was trying to enter a secure room that he was tasked in protecting. She had no business in that building.
And while I dont agree with murder, I will say that she and the crowd put lives at risk including their own. They are the ones who cost that woman her life, not the police.
@Ez-Bri-Z Lets face it if it was a white cop that killed a black BLM protester for lets say , throwing a molotov cocktail at his police car the cop would be convicted of murder in about 5 minutes. The cop that shot Ashli Babbitt got the medal of honor and yet his name was never released by the Capitol Police or Nancy Pelosi.
There was no damage or vandalism in the capitol. No fires, no statues being destroyed, most just peacefully filed through the building. Yes a few went through Pelosi's office not cool I agree but no a shooting offense. And saying hang mike pence is just a chan and the last time I checked we still have the first amendment. I just hate the double standard.
Like all the other cops who were never even tried for persons of color they killed who were completely innocent and just had the misfortune of having a bit too much melatonin in their skin for that cops liking?
That cop was doing his duty. These people broke onto federal property, threatened the lives of our government officials both republican and Democrat and assaulted members of the police force. Give any member of the police force there who risked their lives a medal of honor against a crazed cultist mob bent on violence and destroying our democracy.
The First Amendment doesn’t give people the right to make direct, personal threats of immediate violence. This can include intimidating symbolic actions like burning a cross that are meant to make specific victims fear for their lives, even if the cross-burners don’t actually plan to carry through with the threat (Virginia v. Black, 538 U. S. 343 (2003)).
Threatening to kill a vice president and elected members of this government while carrying weapons, while part of a mob, while already in the act of violence is not free speech.
They built a gallows on site and hung a noose.
That was not free speech. It was a lack of opportunity thanks to the brave officers who risked their lives to stop a bunch of adults with the mentality of children rushing into a federal building at the behest of their would be dictator to overturn a legitimate election.
Because using guns for police is taught to be only used when no other options remain. If the National Guard went in when they were assembled then the rioters would have fled or died. They're soldiers and firing weapons is not an act of last resort.
No idea, I was sincerely hoping they would just kill them.
This is no longer Nixon with the Kent State University riots, boy! :-o
Yes, that is a good question. Maybe they were afraid the crowd would shoot back. Their MO is to just shoot unarmed women.
of course the crowd will shot back, then you have the question for thous who didn't see who shot "who fire first? the rebelions or the sistem?"
because it was no big deal? something is wrong with you if you're still thinking about jan 6th. i understand you're kinda old but i hope you're not getting news from a TV channel or something
Because that would have escalated the situation, putting more lives at risk. That would have been a very stupid thing to do.
Well there was this little thing called the Boston Massacre once maybe you should read about it
Because there where government agents in the crowd that were instigating violence.
To help and destroy US.
Do nothing chaos will take over America goes down the whole world is destroyed.
Probably didn't want to make a bad situation worse, and they may have been out armed by the rioters.
Because the crowd didn’t pose a deadly threat to anyone. On the contrary, the cops ushered the crowd inside.
Also, a government agent did open fire. The only person killed that day was one of the crowd. An unarmed woman. Where’s the BLM outrage for that? Oh right, it’s not about cops it’s about race and ideology. Not justice.
I guess they weren't really ready for it. One of the rioters did get shot and killed though.
Probably mostly because they were outnumbered.
Because this isn't china...
They would have murmured innocents in the street
www.google.com/.../...g-kong-security-law.amp.html
I would like to think we learned from Kent State.
All the rioters where whites.
Because it wasn’t a riot.
@goaded You just don't ever learn, do you loser. Trump was wrong for advocating any type of lockdown. However, he was right when he understood that if you ever expected people to comply with this nonsense, it has to have a defined purpose, proposed solution, and end date. Because otherwise you have neverending authoritarian bullshit that continually expands its power and you end up with Australians in concentration camps.
There aren't any Australian concentration camps, that's a fever dream of covid-ridden right wingers, and they've have 2,000 deaths over the whole pandemic. That's 80 deaths per million, compared to the US's 2,433 (or 1,900 if you only count the sane states). They must be doing something wrong!
@goaded You’re better off getting Omicron all things considered. I will not risk health damage from a shot that is hands down, indisputably the deadliest vaccine ever created, over the minuscule risk I will get reinfected by a variant that’s the sniffles.
PS, the Pfizer CEO says you’ll need a 4th booster. Because the first three don’t work. lol. Someday you’ll realize you’ve been duped. I hope it’s before the heart damage - because I do care about your health.
@goaded So, nothing. You have no idea, not a shred of a brain cell firing, to give you any type of notion of why the test data needs to be repressed for 75 years. None. It's so funny when you can't betray your programming.
And here's another hint for you... it's shit like repressing test data for 75 years that makes people want to avoid these shots, not Trump.
Firstly, let's get your obvious inaccuracies sorted: the lawsuit didn't happen until September 2021, so blaming that for vaccine hesitancy is bullshit. And it's 55 years, not 75.
Not to mention that the information isn't being hidden until then, and there's a heck of a lot of it. "The FDA proposes releasing 500 pages per month on a rolling basis, noting that the branch that would handle the review has only 10 employees and is currently processing about 400 other FOIA requests."
Still, I'm sure they could come up with a quicker way. I expect they're worried, with good reason, that ignorant people will find something that they will blow out of all proportion. You know, like the anti-choice nutters like to make out that every abortion is like chopping a newborn baby into chunks, even if it's Plan B on the day after having sex.
It's not my fault all the lies that get people killed are coming from one side. Lies like "it wasn’t a riot", "the election was stolen", or "It’s going to disappear. One day – it’s like a miracle – it will disappear".
By the way, wasn't it Trump's government that decided to start using the Pfizer vaccine?
@goaded Wait, now you're slamming Trump for the pfizer vaccine? Are you a fucking retard? Um. You lunatics have been stating that these mRNA vaccines have had technology that has been around 10 years. Listen, I wanted these shots to be effective and end this pandemic. For those who were vulnerable, they were great to keep you out of the hospital.
But now we know they're leaky, they don't prevent the spread, and only provide moderate prevention from serious disease (of a disease that only has about a 2% hospitalization rate from the get-go). They're also the deadliest vaccines in history. So yeah, there's zero reason to mandate them, and you're a fucking idiot for falling for the endless cycle of boosters you've signed up for. When even that mental midget, Trevor Noah seems something's fishy with this "new variant" coming out the same time as these companies are claiming you need another booster, you've really got to be completely mentally gone to think this isn't suspicious.
Because they didn't wanted to hit FBI agents.
Because they’re honorable Americans.
They didn't have guns.
They were out nunbered
Because they didn't have a certain color...
