I'm not sure what "police kill rate" means, as that article does not point to which reference uses that phrase, but I assume that it is the rate at which each peace officer commits homicide.
That should be higher than the average non peace officer, as many of them are literally hired to deal with goons all day. Many work in very dangerous places, and when someone is threatening other humans, police officers are called to handle the situation. I expect some of those situations to end in shootouts, and I expect many shootouts to end in the death of the suspect.
So, the kill rate should be higher than any other citizen, as other citizens are not having to commit homicide during their work day.
You don't want roving gangs taking over your neighborhood and robbing your banks, or lunatics murdering at will. Some people will die for what they want to take. I do believe that at least some officer involved shootings should never have happened, and we should start managing them differently (start new policies) to remedy most of those issues. Homeless dude with a knife, and you're telling me that there is no other weapon produced on Earth that could subdue the perpetrator with less deadly force? There are other examples, but I'm not going to go into that here.

Should we look into some alternative methods of hiring, managing, training, and maintaining our officers, especially in big cities and the South? Yes! Do I think that they need more funding? Yes! Do I think that we need more officers? Yes!
I think that all of these things can help them cope with a top tier stressful job far easier. Less hours, less time in crazy neighborhoods per officer, less time having to be paranoid, and more time enjoying themselves among their fellow citizens.

Yes I think if this every time people get on a soap box about how nothing g us being done about ViOlEnCe in this country bc randos with no power have access to guns. There’s nothing more dangerous than being gunned down by someone with whom swift defense will def toy shot. Obviously it’s tragic what has happened to people my heart goes out to them and it tremendously sucks thinking today the store recently but out of all the mid use and abuse of power going on, it’s disingenuous bull poop to act like lone shooters is why we are not safe in this country. in my opinion

We need to change the whole mentality of the police. Down to how laws are enforced.

Also, the way we hire cops is stupid and encourages this problem. We put more attention into the officers education than looking into the morals of the individual guy. There doesn't seem to be any kind of regulated diciplinary board. I think we should have one watch over judges and police officers and it should be run by people local to that area.

Most people I know who became cops, have absolutely no passion for other people (or anything else). They would think the oath they took is a crock of shit. And a few of them were bullies through high school.

They literally got in because they were fit and knew someone and that's all it takes.

YES. But more often than not, their shootings are justifiable, from criminals deciding to go out in a blaze of glory, to sad people committing "Suicide by Cop". Now one wishes the police could not shoot the latter and just take them down and get them help, but the cop has a split second to make a decision like that.

When the shit hits the fan in bad situations, is the blame always on the police officers in the field? Or are their commanding officers that put them in "Training Day" situations also to blame? I believe so. For example, Derek Chauvin and Tou Thao were partnered together the day George Floyd was killed, but they normally weren't partners. Both Chauvin and Thao, who each had dozens of complaints filed against them during their careers, were routinely partnered with officers with far less experience and time on the force. That cultivates abuse and can turn good police officers with good intentions bad over time (think "career politician" effect). Why haven't any of their commanding officers (or any other commanding officers that place novice police officers with unfit police officers) faced any discipline?

That makes perfect sense. Police officers are there to protect society, and catch crooks. They carry guns, are trained to use them, and do use them. It's their job.

Let's just pretend their numbers are accurate - how many were justified? There were 61,000,000 contacts with citizens and police in 2018. Let's assume that's an average #. So roughly 427,000,000 contacts in 7 years. So.001% of police/citizen contact ends in a suspect being killed. And that's taking a leap that all of that # was justified (which I know they weren't).

The "Gun Violence Archive" claims that 278 people were killed by mass shootings just in 2021 alone. 339 people in 7 years seems to be leaving out a lot.

That's the problem with using a biased BS site to make a point.

a lot of body cam footage does show the criminals pulling out guns, knifes and more, are their situations where a potential criminal is denied due process, yup but from what I seen some of these 5150's & criminals ask to be fed bullets or go out suicide by cop.

To be honest, that's the "kill" rate, not the "murder rate", of of those killings are quite literally in self-defense.

But if you compare the murder rate for cops vs the murder rate for the average legally armed civilian, you get the point you are trying to pass here.

Unfortunately, most people are too happy to give cops that kind of authority because they prefer “security” to liberty. thanks to the Officer Friendly program, most people really do think we can trust cops with our lives. Why do you think everyone was so surprised about what cops DIDN’T do in Uvalde? And those same nitwits want law abiding gun owners to be disarmed so we’re all equally vulnerable. Enforcing laws would help curb most issues. Cops probably get away with more crimes than anyone other group. Law enforcement and all rules and laws MUST be applied evenly across the board with NO exception or leniency for ANYONE, EVER! No matter who they are or who they know. Did you know that over July 4th weekend 71 people were shot and 10 people died. That is more than were shot and killed at the July 4th parade.

However, the only thing the news covered was the shooting at the parade.
