What are your thoughts on UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson?
I’m interested in everyone’s views but I’m especially curious about what ourfriends think 🇺🇸
Boris is a little bit like Trump however aside from his incompetent malicious handling of the government the thing with Boris is that he is actually not as dumb as he pretends to be. That wacky persona he pushes (such as the picture you got) is not an accident but his way to appeal to the average voter. By acting like a clown he can hide his otherwise intolerable elitism and contempt for people.
Boris is also INCREDIBLY short sighted. It is said that Diplomats tries to have the nation survive the decade, politicians tries to keep their job at the end of the week but Boris only tries to survive until tomorrow. He has shown time and again that he will only act when he is basically the politically equivalent of physically forced to which has not gone well during covid19 which relies on preemptive actions.
This late actions of his looks like it might have ruined his career now. Politically he is done for. Will it take a week? A month? A year? Does not matter, his party will not allow him to remain in power longer than it takes for them to find a replacement.
don't count Boris out... republicans still... well... see for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuPKaQ-a4-0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J58USLu69NE
@Sabretooth Nah, Boris is cooked. While he might have been doomed for a while I was hesitant to say it for certain since these things can drag on for a while but this latest scandal of his is not only really bad legally speaking but has also caught the public attention like no other. His party has already displayed their intention to betray him and if the upcoming election of a super safe Tory seat goes badly (which it is looking to be) then Boris is a threat to the whole party and will be politically assassinated.
we'll see. I'm not familiar with UK politics... but what with I do know... I wouldn't be optimistic. hell, there's been many stories of elected republicans who hate Trump and blah, blah, blah.
@Sabretooth The Republicans and Tories are very different. Its important to realize that the Tories in the UK has no greater Allegiance to Boris. He was only thrust into a leadership role because there was no one else willing to do the dirty work of Brexit (because either they where too crazy or they realized that it was going to be the end of their political career). The plan was always to ditch Boris once his usefulness had elapsed but it became more complicated when they realized they did not have anyone to replace him with.
and the opinion of the populace?
@Sabretooth People in the UK are very NOT politically active however in the case with Boris the media have accidentally or otherwise captured the peoples attention with a specific scandal wherein political officials defied quarantine last year to have a Christmas party while asking the rest of the country to stay at home and not meet relatives.
This predictably went badly and when Boris stood up and claimed there was no party only to be disproved by picture evidence of HIMSELF partaking in one.. well.. it sort of nails his coffin.
... Boris acts a lot like Trump... or, Trumps acts a lot like him (a nod to Reba's Christmas song). this is fodder for covid skeptics and anti-vaxxers... in spite of the obvious fact that he has access to medication that the rest of you don't. but, I assume that he doesn't have a cult of drooling crazed idiots?
@Sabretooth Nah, Boris dont act like Trump. He is not quite the outright authoritarian and he is well aware of his situation. If you look at his behavior its a mixture of being lazy and not wanting to do anything unless he is forced and being a coward and being pushed around by his own party (or a subset of his party looking to take over control).
The similarities to Trump is mostly in appearance and behavior (even though Boris is faking it).
''a subset''?
@Sabretooth There is a faction who intentionally infiltrated the Tory party to usurp its leadership and take control over it. You can think of these people as the radical anti-EU brexiteers and they threaten to split the party (AKA leave and start a new one) which would shatter the current government and thereby they hold the Tory party as "hostage" in a way.
The reason the Tory party can't afford to split their party is because its literally the only reason they are even relevant. Their side of the political spectrum is bundled up into the single Tory party where as the opposition is split between a number of different parties which decreases their overall power and allows the Tories to control the government with less votes than would otherwise be required.
As such Boris as the official leader has to walk the line between promising this faction ever more radical positions to make sure they dont destroy the party while at the same time telling the rest of the party that everything is fine and that he is definitely NOT going to do something radical like he promised the other group. In a way it is unsustainable and has only really worked so far because Boris is perfectly happy with promising things without ever doing anything to uphold his words.
so, not just a random ragtag group of yahoos.
@Sabretooth Nope, its an organized attempt at gaining power and influence over the Tory party. They call themselves the "European Research Group" (another example of names that is misleading if you ever needed one). They have their own agenda and will sabotage and blackmail the Tory party if it means achieving it.
That depends on what the research entails. Maybe I'm letting video games pollute my mind... But these groups seem to only wanna research destruction and chaos.
@Sabretooth This is not a research group of any kind. Its just a group of politicians dedicated to being anti-EU. The name itself is irrelevant and honestly groups like these are basically built to push propaganda in the first place so take anything (including their name) with a mountain of salt because they are trying to influence you through both legitimate and malicious means.
essentially what I said. so... how long until the UK has gone as mad as the US by your estimation?
@Sabretooth I mean... "As crazy as USA" is a very high bar. Arguably the UK has already done more damage to their own country by flubbing the Covid19 response and Brexit than the US has done with its recent string of horrible presidents and actual political coup. That said while the UK has caused a lot of self inflicted damage they are not as far gone politically speaking and are still within historical boundaries where as USA has truly fallen off the deep end.
The truly horrible handling of covid19 and Brexit is also likely to cause a swing back in the other direction, especially if Ireland unifies in the future and possibly even Scotland leaves the union. Basically while I dont see them becoming a model citizen in the future I do think they will become more moderate as the crazies blew their load too early and turned the popular opinion against themselves.
There is actually a gap for the opposition to step in and assume control within the near future which could turn it all around real quick however the way politics works in the UK is that if a party is confident they will trigger an early election and cash that win into the bank where as a party that is uncertain about their own success will drag out the time until they are forced to have an election. That means if the Tories are insecure about their victory (they are) they would delay the inevitable to 2024.
Worse still is that if Boris feels threatened (he is) he can cause all sorts of stupid stuff. People have talked about him possibly cutting all ties to the EU (most notably the border agreement in Northern Ireland which has caused his party much grief) which could start all kinds of stuff. The reason that agreement was even signed was to end a civil war so no one is particularly happy about potentially restarting the violence once again.
we got an insane death cult who think Trump is above God. as for ''There is actually a gap for the opposition to step in and assume control within the near future which could turn it all around real quick however the way politics works in the UK is that if a party is confident they will trigger an early election and cash that win into the bank where as a party that is uncertain about their own success will drag out the time until they are forced to have an election. Trump's base couldn't care less about what he does--this goes back to 2018:

Well he is an ass clown obviously, but they all are. Bojo at least knows something of how to play the game though, its no accident that he became the PM, he was a household name long before he was PM because he knows how to dance like a monkey in front of cameras and get himself noticed.
We really do have serious problems in the UK though, there was a time, i think, probably, when the Tories, although they were evil self serving cunts did at least have a vague idea how to steer the ship, that hasn't been true for a while.
There is currently no opposition, for all his faults Bojo is the only one who has a personality, even if it is a construct, labour are useless, lib dems failed to get proportional representation when they had their chance so they are good for nothing.
The stage is set for an unknown party to take it all, but i fear that even if that did happen AND it wasn't a bunch of nazi's that whoever took over simply wouldn't know how to run an economy, you probably do need to be trained for the job, and Bojo and his like have been.
Agree. The two party system doesn’t work anymore. We need a new system that gives third parties a greater chance of getting MPs/ Congressmen and into Downing St or the White House.
He is too optimistic to be a leader. He has broken so many election pledges. He said " I have a plan for funding care in old age". We waited years to find out he had cobbled something together which failed to solve the issue.
Worst broken pledge? Breaking his promise on the state pension triple lock!
I will never vote Tory again. COME BACK, NIGEL!
This picture just made my day!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He's in the middle of a mess for sure, but I don't think he's going resign. He really wanted to be the Prime Minister.

He’s an arse, however the choices are limited.
It usually takes a few years for the infighting to die down.
One of the biggest problems Labour has / had is the far left (for the Americans the UK far left would make the Russians look right wing).
The thought of Corbyn running the show now would be a nightmare.
The conservatives on very much on track to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Yet again it looks like Londoncentric bollox will be what decides it.
Anyhow, he’s an arse of a buffoon, which is in part an act, however he’s proving he does it naturally.
I don't have very strong feelings about him, one way or another.
He has very little direct effect on me, so I don't tend to concern myself with him, but I do get the impression he's not particularly popular in the UK, and kind of a dipshit.
There are always two sides to everything, though. Depending on what US media you follow, Biden is either great, or the worst thing that ever happened, and likewise with Trump, Obama, Bush Jr, etc.
I would imagine Johnson is much the same, depending on the media. He probably has some redeeming qualities, and may have done some good, but I'm sure he's royally screwed up, too. He's a politician; they all suck.
I warned people not to vote for the tories, but when initially elected he brought a lot of relief and optimism. Brexit was going to get done, the UK would be a striving country again and finally would we see some fresh air.
What did we get in the end? Brexit kinda done, and fully on board with the climate hoax, lockdowns and other tyranny.
Borris and his elitist "we make the rules bit don't follow them" type of party seems to be crumbling, but no-one has any faith at all for Labour, the only real alternative. It should be noted that in all of these scandals, Borris himself is almost never implicates. He's a highly decorated and charismatic guy and just like he's been doing for the last year and a bit, he's probably going to get away with poor internal management again.
UK is a one party state now. Torys might as well be modern day Nazis. Labor is complicit in bad jacketting Corbyn as a commie. Y'all got what the Queen wants and what you deserve. Call me when the revolution never comes. Winstanley and the Prankhursts are turning over in their graves.
When you have muslims raping children in grooming gangs and no one does anything about it other than brush it under the table. Fuck the uk it's a shit hole. if we had Muslims grooming little girls here in Texas and raping them then we would have shot them!
Yes law and order is a joke here. Women have been called racist for reporting the men who assaulted them, while our police drive around in rainbow coloured cars and arrest people for offending other people on social media.
sadly, there are allegations based on race... it's sickening and unfortunate. as for cyber bulling: https://www.meganmeierfoundation.org/statistics
''bullying''
He got Brexit done, but that's about it. In all other respects, he's the archetypical Tory, Labour driving the speed limit.
Also, Dominic Cummings is smelling blood in the water...
If some of you remember "Black Mirror" Series. There is a episode where British PM is forced to commit coitus with a pig in front of cameras which broadcast it in TV. I think papa pig lover should just take a boar for this task.
Only the UK could elect a prime minister who gets his ideas from peppa pig.
USA aren't our "friends" kiddo.
Boris is a philandering bum and liar. He is basically a better spoken version of Trump and like Trump got caught short in his lies.
i think they are lining up rishi sunak to take his place...
I felt stupid that our country voted for Trump but took comfort in knowing we weren't the only stupid ones when the UK voted for Boris.
Needs to start following the science on the new Covid Variant and stop panicking, and start listening to those who 'lent' him their votes at the last election, because from the 'Workington Man/Women's' POV he's screwing up big time!
Cheer leader, not prime minister.
Seriously! Who thought he'd make a good lead and voted for him. I realise there are reasons but he really should have been left on the tv comedy circuit. Put Commander Sunak in charge.
Better than the oppressive rule UK was under.. Granted I'm a stupid American. USA USA USA!
Don't know much about him except he's always walking around with bedhead.
He's kind of a goofball, I'd really like to go back over his political history to see how he first convinced people to take him seriously.
The sad part is that his goofball character is actually completely artificial. He plays the fool to hide his true personality because its intolerable. Apparently its something he has done since childhood and for some reason British people put down their guard and give him the benefit of the doubt because of it.
Dont get me wrong, this dont mean they think he is GOOD at his job, more along the lines of "Eh, he does not seam that bad/evil. Lets give him a chance."
I don't know much about him. The general opinion is that he's a bit of an odd ball. As for the crimes commited... As a general rule... I don't trust politician save for a few that seem alright.
His hair reminds me of a dried up mop.
And he’s also a stupid ass ol chap
