A inexperienced early 20's truck driver not drunk or under any illegal drug influence has a brake mechanical malfunction driving a 80,000 weight truck around 85 mph which he is having a hard time controlling gets into a severe crash killing 4 and injuring others gets sentence to 110 years in prison. 🙄 America better shut their mouths about human rights in other countries. It does seem to be a very harsh sentence. I have not followed the case, but I know trucking companies will cut every corner they can, putting driver and public at risk. Realistically, 85 is not to fast for a truck under normal conditions. It makes me wonder what really is behind the severity of the judgment. Was it politically pressed, a matter of public perception, to make an example of someone, or something else? You can't help but feel bad for everyone in this situation. I hope true justice happens for all.

True. 110 years for negligence? Even if he had been driving drunk and killed someone, vehicular homicide typically nets a 10-year sentence. Meanwhile, if you shoot and kill someone in Colorado on purpose, that gets you what, 20 years? It’s ridiculous. I hope this gets reduced to like 2 years.

Looks like the governor commuted the sentence to just 10 years and is eligible for parole in only 5, which he’ll probably get.

From what I've read he was behaving in what can be referred to as a 'willfully stupid' manner. He probably should never have been licensed but had a number of opportunities to avoid the tragedy, and then had the audacity to want a relative slap on the wrist.

I know Top Gear did a truck segment they were on a track and derestricted a lorry and got to 90mph and it was just wrong to look at something that size moving like that

Much longer than precedent for a speed acquired when going downhill with a suddenly-failed brake = human sacrifice. Since the tragedy led to 4 dead, they figured he was expendable and wouldn't be missed. Assholes.

I think once he went down some slope the truck picked up speed to 85mph and he already was having troubles with the braking which wasn't working.

In a panic and under heavy stress he missed the runway ramp and who wouldn't under such intense circumstances knowing you're gonna likely die behind the wheel of a 80, 000 pound truck.

Colorado is actually a swing state and the governer just took off 100 years of his sentence. He will be eligible for parole 2026 which is 4 years from now.

With good prison conduct he should be out by 2026.
