I'm from Colorado and everything he did pretty much made a wreck inevitable. Not gearing down, riding his breaks and not taking a emergency turn off: More or less he might as well be driving a unstoppable battering ram. So he is to blame for what happened. Giving him 100+ is pretty heavy handed. The judge could have charged him with four counts of Reckless Vehicular Homicide and gave him 24 years max.

Hadn't heard of this. yes, excessive sentence. I support right of people to choose if the risk of work is worth it and apply pressure. It's the industries right to pay more for those routes since they have an added risk. I can only hope the industry worked on ways to avoid this issue in the future.
sounds like already adjusted sentence: https://www.9news.com/article/news/investigations/i70-crash-trucking-company/73-4ceb6ed5-b0a8-403d-b4f0-a041fd3710c8
I find it fascinating programmers, Q/A people, product managers and executives can build an airplane that falls out of the sky twice... Boeing... killing hundreds... but there is no such culpability for their "mistake". Ditto for airline pilots who survive crashes.
People are punished severely with their lives in these important but mediocre paying jobs (e. g. driving, police), but high paying jobs like pharma, IT... can get away with harming 10's or 1000's. There's a topic for your discussion group...
All this does for me is make another reminder to pay full attention while driving so I don't run into the same.
