It depends what your definition of understanding is. I believe it's easier to understand it if you experienced it but I would not say it's impossible to understand what you never experienced. An example is, it's possible to feel sympathy for a suffering person even if you have not suffered the same type of event that they went through. Also you can understand a cure at an intellectual level, even if you do not understand the sickness at an emotional level. A doctor might know how to treat a cancer patient even if he has never had cancer before. A teacher might know how to help a shy pre schooler even if the school teacher has never been shy.

No because you can use logic to understand something and you can learn from other people's experiences. I have the mental capacity to understand things without directly experiencing them and in my experience people rarely tell me anything that I couldn't have just imagined.

Not really no. I know people would be in a huge amount of agony if set on fire, hit with acid, eaten by a crocodile. I’ve not experienced it but I can clearly understand it.

To a degree I agree with this. For example, if you have never lost a parent, how can you even know or understand what it is like to lose a parent. Yes we have all lost loved ones, but losing a parent especially both parents it hits differently.

Generally no, but it's true in some situations. Example. If you have never had anyone close to you die. You understand that it must be a sad thing to go through, but you won't funny comprehend how devas it is until you lose someone.
