It is totally fine to appoint a black woman. But, wisdom appoints a candidate because they are the most qualified, or at least very qualified and possibly younger than someone who is maybe a bit more qualified but that is really, really old and may need to be replaced in 5 years. There are other factors to consider... like that. You want your nominee to serve for several decades so 60 and 70 year old candidates will most likely be overlooked even if they are qualified.

But, to select someone just because of their birth race or sex. That is just evil.

Race, sex... etc., shouldn't even matter. Just pick the best overall candidate you can. To go into the search already declaring I'm going to find someone of X race or Y gender and use that as a criteria is just insane. You have a terrible leader if this is how they think.

For most of its history, the Supreme Court picks were only ever white males. Was it illegal then? Why it is illegal now? 115 justices, 108 of them white men.
