To be clear I am not saying Ukraine should be invaded or that Ukrainian lives don't matter. But I am asking if the rest of the world should really care or make as much of a big deal out of it as the media and government do here in the U. S. and in Europe. I feel like the U. S. government is really pushing this because they almost hope we can have a reason to finally fight Russia.
I can maybe understand the panic a little more for the European side because the situation is right there at their doorstep, but they too are ramping up the panic. The only person who is trying to remain calm is Ukraine's president Zelensky, although he still acknowledges the situation could become dangerous.
Also, I feel like if Russia wanted to invade some other country for whatever beef they had with them we would not care nearly as much. Just for example if it were Ethiopia, India, Brazil, etc. for whatever reason Russia would want to invade them, I think we wouldn't care that much.

In 1994, on December 5, the United States, United Kingdom, Ukraine, and Russia signed the Budapest memorandum. In this agreement which followed the START I agreements with the defunct Soviet Union, the Ukrainian government undertook to give up its nuclear arsenal. The arsenal consisted of 130 SS-19s, each capable of delivering six nuclear weapons, and 46 SS-24s, each armed with ten nuclear weapons. Several dozen bombers with strategic nuclear capabilities were armed with some 600 air-launched missiles, along with gravity bombs. In addition, as many as 3000 tactical nuclear weapons rounded out an arsenal totalling approximately 5000 strategic and tactical weapons. At the time, the targeting of Ukrainian ICBMs was largely on the US.
According to the memorandum, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom agree, in exchange for Ukraine's accession to the Nuclear Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty and the transfer of its nuclear arsenal to Russia to: · Respect Ukrainian independence and sovereignty within its current borders.
· Refrain from any threats or use of force against Ukraine.
· Refrain from using economic pressure on Ukraine to influence its policy.
· Seek UN Security Council approval if nuclear weapons are used against Ukraine.
· Refrain from using nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
· Consult other interested parties if questions arise about these commitments.
Russia has systematically violated the treaty. First using the gas supply weapon and putting strong political pressure on Kiev. Russia militarily invaded Ukrainian territory by occupying Crimea and financing a guerrilla war in the Donbass basin. Russia regularly and illegally blocks and inspects ships transiting the Kerch Strait from or bound for Ukrainian ports.
In Russia, Putin has handled the pandemic very badly. Although they developed the first vaccine, less than half of the population got the vaccine. This is because no one trusts the government as it did experiments on the population in Soviet times. Russia has had 711,546 deaths from covid-19 compared to 921,000 in the US with a population equal to 44% of that of the US.
Putin in this has taken up old narratives of how much Russia has been humiliated by the bad West that has taken away Ukraine from it and is besieging and surrounding it. As Hitler did in Germany after the fall of WWI. Putin's aim is to show that he still has a straight penis and that he is not a failure, therefore he has moved a huge army to the borders with Ukraine and the puppet state of Belarus.
Putin's goal is to break the West but he is getting the opposite result. Ukraine has never wanted to join NATO but Russian aggression is pushing other countries to join such as Finland. Finalndia has just bought 64 F35As and is a country of 5.5 million people, has modernized the 100 tanks available etc... Italy for example has 70 F35s between A and B and a population ten times greater.
Personally the UN has proven totally ineffective in this.

Just because Ukrainians speak Russian, eat Russian food, etc. does not mean they are not their own people. Ukrainian is their original language, and if you go back centuries they were their own kingdom the Kievan Rus'. And technically they were a lot larger around that region at that time than they are now, and were in much of western Russia that Russia took over. When they shouldn't have.

As for Biden, I do agree that this is all a move of his to only prove that he can be an aggressive military president, seeing as Democratic presidents have often been viewed as weak while Repubs have always wanted to be aggressive and have reasons to go to war. Democracy has many surface promises and one of them is that those who have the power to stand up to bullies will on behalf of those who do not. To abandon Ukraine is to abandon that promise, thus further eroding the appeal of democracy worldwide. The problem with that is, while any system of government can work as long as everyone agrees, only democracy is designed from the ground up to work when everyone disagrees. Democracy is what keeps us from engaging in routine political violence. So, letting it erode is a bad idea, however eager some have convinced themselves they are to participate in said violence (one lucky shot is all it takes to force them to die mad or regretting it).

War no matter who wins is never good. We're all fucked if it happens because it might get to the point where everyone has to pick a side. I think unless we're called upon to fight for freedoms sake we should leave things alone.
Really the only thing I care about is the people in Ukraine who are in the middle of yet another wag waving contest between the US gov and the Russian gov. Simply because they will bare the brunt of any conflict that comes of it.
I really don't care whon invades who, i just don't like to see someone hurt or dead and a war means destruction, pain and loss of lives and that's why i pray that a war never occurs!
China is definitely not waiting on signals from Putin or anyone else. They managed to out-manufacture every other nation in the world over the last 20+ years and they currently are the biggest creditor nation on the planet. The idea that they are going to blow all that on invading Taiwan is more than a bit silly. The significance of sending fighter jets into Taiwan's airspace is just a show of equipment, not force. It's a move in a chess game, a very serious one, but just a tactic, for now.
@Buntyp China has already taken over islands in the South China Sea. It has created new artificial islands, too. It has reneged on its promises about Hong Kong. What more do you need to show it has malevolent intentions?

If allies are asking for help not to be invaded, I don’t see why you wouldn't help on defense.
But that situation likely wouldn’t be developing the first place if Trump was in charge. It was a problem during Obama, then Trump was firm and it suddenly stops overnight. Then Biden comes in and he’s a weakling, now it’s a problem again.
