If you were to reign as king or queen over a nation do you think you will be good or eventually get corrupted by having absolute political power?

The worry I have are all those gray decisions I might face where the only practical choice is a lesser of two evils. I think I have a shot at being a person not too corrupted with lots of power. For a start, I don't want that power. I don't want that level of responsibility. I'd lose sleep at night all the time worrying about wielding it incorrectly.
Yet I might reach a point after navigating all those gray decisions of gradually losing my morals in the process. I have found that I can work towards a slightly corrupt form of myself even with the limited power I've accumulated to start getting so used to choosing the lesser of two evils all the time that I stopped critically asking what is the "good and righteous" option rather than the "best" option.
What I've found the toughest and most corrupting decisions I've ever faced in my career are those, "Damned if you do, and damned if you don't ones." Thankfully I didn't face too many of them but I could imagine a very powerful person having to face them all the time, and I sometimes doubt that I'd have the strength and fortitude to keep my morals intact in the process.
I also think that might be how corruption occurs in most powerful people. I don't think most of them were born cruel and irresponsible. I suspect most started as innocent in their childhoods as any of us. Yet if they are constantly faced with "damned if you do, and damned if you don't" types of decisions every day, they might eventually find themselves creatures of hell and permanently damned while no longer being able to make decisions that aid anyone without hurting someone else. They might cease to even think twice about making such decisions.
I started and ran a medieval Scottish-based realm on AOL for 21 years. Before that, I was a dungeon master in Dungeons and Dragons. My character was benevolent with his "subjects".
I will be a malevolent Queen. I would be very understanding in the beginning but then when it comes down to others I think it start affecting us our relationships with others countries in I think that’s the biggest issue being involved or not being involved. I don’t think it’s that I can do whatever at one power of corruption for me
I'm giving you a like for your honesty. That's very respectable.
Thank you. I think I based it on Current politics. I know I messed up some of the words
@Justneedtokno That's okay.
@Jamie05rhs thank you 😊
You're welcome!
Nope, but I can tell you with absolute certainty I would be complete rubbish at it.

If it would be possible, I'd change a lot for the better. But with corruption, comes death threats. Things would be going well, and the 1% wouldn't be happy with me. Heck id try to take down these selfish 1% Uber rich.
I'd be good...
And I prefer "power corrupts and absolute power is even more fun".
I would totally have people beheaded. I would have a T-shirt made up that would have "Off With His Head" emblazoned on the front.
Typically if a new leader of a new regime has good intentions they rule well and fair. Those who come after... not so much
Would be good in my opinion. People would definitely not agree with my methods though.
I could see being assassinated for not giving in to the corruption
Nope, because I'd abdicate the throne as first action.
I'd probably be assassinated.
Corruption be damned... off with their heads!
