+1 yThey do, if you actually listen to the people in their communities. I find it kind of weird, firstly, and secondly, dubious to categorize crime by the race of the offender. Especially now, there are so many people of mixed race, half-this/half-that…. if you’re half-white and half-black, who gets the stat? It also kind of lends itself to trying to assign blame to certain races for their behavior, which is also weird as fuck to have in your mentality. I think that’s my problem with most of the stuff like this, it’s all very clearly designed to have the end result of white people eschewing any responsibility and basically has this feel of “Let’s make absolutely sure we assign lots of blame to this minority group and tell them it all their fault, and none of ours.” Obviously everything needs full exploration, but it doesn’t feel like it comes from a well-meaning place when it’s brought up, which is the whole reason I can’t really get behind it. I’m not saying the answer is “everything bad that happens is ultimately because white people suck”, that’s missing the mark too, but I cringe every time other people (usually white people) have their own wrongs called into question, and their only response is to deflect and blame someone else. I grew up in a mostly black neighborhood, we had some knuckleheads, but all the violence was knucklehead-on-knucklehead, and the other 99% of the people in the neighborhood shook their heads at it too. Unfortunately, my entire old neighborhood gets characterized BY those very few knuckleheads, and the normal people get lumped in with them. It’s like being white and people assuming you must be like Ted Bundy, lmao.

Also…. I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but I’m pretty sure black folks don’t care to be referred to as “blacks.”
- +1 y
@notwoke I mean, that’s ultimately not my call, I’m a white guy. I don’t think it’s the word “black”, and I understand it’s a very nuanced thing that seems contradictory, or like we’re splitting hairs…. I’m just saying I’ve never heard someone start a sentence with “Blacks/The blacks…” and it didn’t end with something that was pretty ignorant. I’d say I’d rather hear “white people” or “white folks” than “The whites”…. it just feels very ‘my team vs yours’, there’s unspoken disdain. Not a huge deal, I’m already into it more than it requires in terms of seriousness, haha, just saying I think anyone of any race could possibly feel like it’s kind of unwelcoming language if it’s said that way.

I do not believe for one minute anyone would keep quiet of their friends, neighbours or loved ones being murdered. Fear keeps people silent, esp if people are from poor areas..

Are you kidding?
Just about every week!
A birthday party for a kid... a thug shows up because he knows someone that talked shit about him is gonna be there and he shoots the patty up, little kids are shot and killed and when the cops show up... didn't see nothin.
No one deserves that. Those kids don't deserve that. But the parents do nothing to stop it.
Babies are dying at there own birthday party or in their own beds because of a drive-by.
And they don't say anything.
Cops got nothing to use for an investigation.
A black mayor and DA let criminals back on the street and thugs do it again... and that same parent that lost their poor child vote another democrat back into office.
It's a vicious deadly cycle and the kids pay.
Sad and pathetic. - +1 y
@Andres77 exactly they didn't see nothing in fear of their own kids safety, its easy to take moral highground when you live in a good neighbourhood but a bad one and any ounce of *grassing* gets you slashed or in yanks cases shot. Polis no in sight for hours, people then turn against them because they aren't protecting them.

Dumb people fall into stupid traps... They could reflect on their own cultural problems and fix them as a community, but it's easier for dumb sheep to follow the flock master to the slaughter house. In 1929 Black communists in Berlin pushed the anti-nationalist and anti-colonial narrative for their leftist pay masters in large scale demonstrations and riots. By 1933 they were being exterminated in concentration death work camps as slaves by those same pay masters. Move forward to 2019 and they are playing the same game and using the same language... What do you think happens in 2023 if they don't wake up.

I think it's genetically impossible and a large part of the reason that the situation is as it is. Highest out of wedlock births - whitey's fault. 4x the rate of STD's - systemic racism. 75% of black children fatherless -whitey again. Not taking advantage of 12 free years of education - whitey. 80% of black women overweight or obese - racism. 5x the murder rate - whitey made them do it. Highest rate of drug use - whitey. Of course all these facts are "racist"
20 Reply8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. They do, but it's usually kept "within the community", i. e., it's generally considered bad to admit to non-blacks that any suffering by blacks is caused by blacks themselves. The narrative that is generally presented to white audiences is one of black suffering caused entirely by white racism.

+1 yBecause they aren't rewarded for talking about black on black violence like they are for talking about white on black violence. Talking about black on black violence actually discredits Critical Race Theory and the concept of systemic racism. For people that have spent so much time vehemently pushing these ideologies, it also makes them feel stupid.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yThey obviously do. Crime is driven by poverty and inequality, both are acknowledged problems in the black community. However, they don’t want to hear it from white people who use it as a “whataboutism” to not address police violence against minorities.
019 Reply- +1 y
Agreed, stop making excuses. Police violence against the black community is directly correlated to the higher crime rate that the black community commits. If it makes your ears bleed to hear the truth then you have some serious self-evaluation to do.
Opinion Owner+1 yPolice violence is correlated to higher crime? Thats complete nonsense. No, police violence is caused by bad cops who use excessive force and do so disproportionately towards people of color. Multiple studies confirm this is true. I suppose that truth probably makes your ears bleed. Peddle your racist tripe elsewhere.
Opinion Owner+1 y@grega239 Do Asians experience the same inequality and poverty that the black community historically has? Of course not. Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes before you judge.
- +1 y
1. Why are you calling them "people of color". 50 years ago it was colored people.
Funny how people like you throw around accusations of racism while being racists yourselves. Big ufft
2. "People of color" commit a disproportionate amount of crime.
The police therefore fo us more on them.
There are bad cops, but not as many as you think.
- +1 y
The majority of police shootings happen because someone threatens with a weapon. When it comes to shooting of unarmed people, it's been shown to be directly correlated to the amount of police interactions any group has. Blacks have disproportionately high amount of interactions with police because they commit a disproportionately high amount of crime which leads to a disproportionate amount of shootings. If you don't believe me, look up the statistics yourself and do the math. Nobody is saying or ever did say bad cops don't exist but the majority of cases were avoidable if the suspect cooperated.
Opinion Owner+1 yBoth of you are purposely creating a false equivalence. The amount of crime has no bearing on the subject. Excessive force is in itself a crime. It is not legally justified under any circumstance. It doesn’t matter what the crime rate is or how often a person has contact with the police or if they decide to flee. The government still has to react appropriately within the bounds of the law. Multiple studies show that people of color are disproportionately treated unfairly by the police in use of force situations compared to whites. Meaning, it happens to them at a higher comparative rate. That’s what people are talking about when they mention institutional racism. It’s also why people of color are wrongfully convicted at a higher rate. Denying reality and creating false equivalences doesn’t change reality. The BS you’re selling ain’t gonna fly.
- +1 y
I would be treated the same way by police if I acted the way many blacks do. If you can't see past race then you yourself are the racist. Statistics showed that black cops kill black suspects at the exact same rate as white cops. I've had this conversation with a woman here before and all it came down to was that she would rather have gangs rule her community because they were black and she was incapable of seeing past race.
Opinion Owner+1 yYou’re going from one nonsense rationalization to another. What that shows is that you have black officers who are a product of the institutional culture in which they work. The vast majority of these shootings are still by white officers. The underlying problem still exists……that people of color are treated differently by the police in use of force scenarios. The fact that a small number of these are done by black officers doesn’t fix or excuse any of it. You might get by with that irrelevance at a MAGA rally among the rebel flag waving rubes but not here.
Opinion Owner+1 yWhat ethnic group has been disadvantaged and discriminated against more? You can spare me your bullshit. I can see right through you.
Opinion Owner+1 y@grega239 Oh really? Why have those laws not fixed the unequal treatment by the criminal justice system? Why have those laws not fixed unequal treatment in the workplace? Black employees typically earn less and are promoted less frequently than their white counterparts. It’s harder to succeed when a population has built in disadvantages. The nonsense coming out of your mouth is the same old tired talk of the typical racist…. and once again, crime rates are irrelevant. Crimes rates don’t excuse excessive force or unequal treatment. Those things are illegal and immoral no matter what the crime rate is. The implications of what you’re saying is loud and clear. Maybe if you cut bigger eyeholes in that hood you’re wearing, you might see and understand the world around you a little better.
- +1 y
Are they paid less because they work less or because they're black?
Getting a promotion is the decision of those who promote.
No. Crime rates are not irrelevant. You can't just ignore the reason why the police may be on edge when interacting with these people.
Obviously if excessive force is used it should have consequences.
Oh you mean the kkk hood? Yea no im not an American.
Opinion Owner+1 yLet me get this straight. It’s ok to pay black people less because they “work less” in your estimation…. a racist stereotype if there ever was one. Then you want to excuse police misconduct because they’re “on edge”. You are one sorry excuse for a human being. It doesn’t matter if you’re American or not. Racism has no nationality.
- +1 y
They aren't payed less. Thats illegal. The difference in pay comes down how much they work (overtime and all that)
If a community has a reputation for violence the police will be on edge. If misconduct is discovered it should be punished accordingly.
Apparently racism does have a nationality, because the few black people that live here don't have gangs and the police doesn't give a shit until they break the law
Opinion Owner+1 yThey aren’t paid less? That’s certainly news to the black community. Good God you are about as uninformed as you can be. People like you are why racism still persists. You deny and excuse and perpetuate it. You’re a waste of oxygen. Goodbye.
- +1 y
Are you being intentionally dense?
Its illegal to pay someones less based on race , gender etc. The difference in pay is due to hours worked , work experience, work performance , etc.
If you suspect discrimination, call the relevant authority.
Im racist?
You're the one attributing any and all differances to strictly and only race
Opinion Owner+1 yAre you still talking? You’ve already been dismissed. Push on.
